Once again, a fantastic value in hand-made, small production (800 cases), Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. David blends fruit from Sonoma Coast Carneros and Crane Vineyard, closer to the sea. The result is a fairly full-bodied Pinot with a round base and plenty of Sonoma Coast dark fruit and spice. Raspberry fruit, smoke and green tea aromas lead to a fruit-filled palate with a dash of fresh herb. The red fruits and spice come up nicely on the long, lingering, finish.

A long-time American classic, the 2009 Sonoma Cutrer Sonoma Coast Chardonnay serves up aromas of ginger, melon, coconut and cedary oak. Flavors in this rich wine run to lemon, apple, pear and pineapple, all wrapped in toasty French oak. A natural with rich seafood and poultry or just to sip on its own.

My personal favorite from Tuesday’s tasting with winemaker Andrew Vingiello, this screams “Sonoma Coast Pinot” to me. Andrew made 125 cases of this beauty in 2010 from fruit grown at 1,100 feet just a few miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. Andrew explained that this site gets plenty of cooling breezes from the ocean, but sits above the fog line on the eastern side of the mountains, allowing the vines to reach full ripeness even in a roller-coaster year like 2010.
The aromas and flavors show plenty of tangy Pinot Noir fruit with a lift of almost citrusy acidity and softly tannic finish. I liked the brightness and sweet/sour, ying/yang of this wine and the lengthy, soft, finish. - Peay Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2010 Product #26588 (In Stock)

Always a favorite!
"Pale yellow-gold. Intensely perfumed bouquet of melon, pear skin, white flowers and iodine, with a chalky overtone. Deeply pitched, palate-staining orchard fruit and lemon curd flavors are lifted by zesty acidity and pick up a smoky quality with air. Rich but light on its feet, finishing with outstanding thrust and lingering florality."International Wine Cellar 93 points

This was the first wine sold out in our June offering, so I was especially pleased when Mike and Schatzi told me another few cases were available. If my notes are correct, this is just the second vintage for Relic working with fruit from this small vineyard about 30 miles west of Healdsberg and 3 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. As you’d expect, the site stays cool all year long from the steady Ocean breezes, but it sits well above the fog line for copious daily sunshine.
In 2010, Mike destemmed the fruit completely and aged the wine in a mixture of new and used wood. It’s a biggish Sonoma Coast Pinot with loads of dark cherry and black raspberry fruit and accents of cassis, vanilla, and earthy brush. Starts bright before exploding to coat your entire palate and then coming into clear focus with crisp acids and tannins on the earthy, dark-fruited, finish. The longer you spend with the wine, the more you appreciate the acidity and the earthy undertones that linger after each sip and keep you coming back for more. Just 250 cases made and we’ve got 3. - Small Vines Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir Mk Vineyard 2010 Product #26823 (In Stock)

From a fairly cool vineyard site not too far off the Pacific that Paul planted for a private client 9 years ago. Here the fruit is darker, the spice notes more pronounced, and the texture richer, especially with air. Drinking well with a decant, but a shame not to hold some for further growth.
“Vivid red. Deeper and darker in profile than the RRV bottling, displaying aromas and flavors of black raspberry, cherry and candied rose. Sappy and expansive in the mouth, with supple tannins adding shape to the very long, sweet, alluringly perfumed finish. I find this wine surprisingly approachable now but it also has the depth to suggest that patience will be rewarded.”International Wine Cellar 92 points

If you're a fan of Peay Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, this is a chance to try another take on fruit from this very extreme coastal vineyard that produces exciting, vibrant wines.
"Bright red. Very pure, lively aromas of black raspberry, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate. Dense, spicy and sweet but almost weightless, offering nuanced flavors of dark berries and flowers complicated by bitter chocolate and woodsmoke. The persistent, floral-tinged finish features silky, fine-grained tannins and very good energy."International Wine Cellar 91 points

A classic, classy, big-gun Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Limited.
A tour de force, with layers of rich, smoky oak, fig, honeydew melon and baked, glazed apple, this weaves together a broad range of flavors, yet for all its size remains elegant and delicate. A roasted marshmallow aftertaste marks the finish. Drink now through 2019. 1,600 cases made."Wine Spectator 94 points
