Macrostie Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012 Product #28591 (In Stock)
Macrostie Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012 Macrostie Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012

A favorite from the past roars back into top form in the ripe, deep, 2012 vintage.  The Sonoma Coast designation allows Steve MacRostie to take fruit for this beauty from top vineyards in Carneros, the Russian River Valley, and even his flagship site, the majestic Wildcat Mountain vineyard.  It’s big, rich, and lush, with plenty of sweet pineapple and tropical fruit, a lash of butter, and bright green apple acids to hold everything in balance. Perhaps our favorite value so far from the outstanding 2012 California Chardonnay crop.

"Best Buy! A number of vineyards contribute to this wine, including Sangiacomo at the base of Sonoma Mountain and Saralee’s in the Russian River Valley. The various sites knit together well, creating an open and fragrant chardonnay redolent of wildflower honey and chanterelle mushrooms. It’s a gentle and harmonious wine that would show well paired with rabbit in a cream sauce."Wine & Spirits 92 points

"So bright and zingy in acidity, and so ripe in tangerine, mango, lime fruit and honeysuckle, that you hardly notice the oak influence. Yet, it’s there in the form of buttered toast. The result is a big, powerful Chardonnay, clean and vibrant, for drinking now with dramatic shellfish and pork dishes."Wine Enthusiast 90 points

Peay Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2010 Product #26588 (In Stock)
Peay Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2010 Peay Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2010

Always one of our favorite Sonoma Coast Chardonnays, the 2010 is probably the best vintage we’ve carried yet.

"Pale yellow-gold. Intensely perfumed bouquet of melon, pear skin, white flowers and iodine, with a chalky overtone. Deeply pitched, palate-staining orchard fruit and lemon curd flavors are lifted by zesty acidity and pick up a smoky quality with air. Rich but light on its feet, finishing with outstanding thrust and lingering florality."International Wine Cellar 93 points

"Vintage 2010 wasn’t kind to Peay, as yields were down a full 50%. Then again, that is not unusual for extreme coastal sites that require heroic viticulture and relentless commitment to quality, exactly the values the Peay family embodies. The 2010 Chardonnay Estate is stunning. Dried pears, lemon, white flowers and crushed rocks are woven together in a Chardonnay that impresses for its exceptional balance and pure harmony. Subtle, refined and impeccably polished, the 2010 is all about harmony. This is one of the richer Chardonnays readers will come across from the true Sonoma Coast, and it is fabulous. The 40% new oak barrels are totally integrated. It will be fascinating to see how the 2010 ages. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020."Wine Advocate 93 points

Bonneau Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Sangiacomo 2011 Bonneau Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Sangiacomo 2011

It's been a while since the whole staff really fell in love with a Sonoma Pinot Noir, but the 2011 Bonneau did the trick.  Just a pretty, really good, Pinot with fresh fruit and spice flavors lifted by juicy pomegranate acidity.  It's a very classy wine with nicely polished tannins and fine length on the palate and stupendous length on the finish.  Outstanding for 2011 - heck, outstanding period!

Failla Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012 Product #27600 (In Stock)
Failla Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012 Failla Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012

Ehren Jordan made wine for Turley for 20 years but left last year to focus on his own project, Failla.  The wines here have been highly rated for years and this 2012 is perhaps the best yet.  It's a rich and spicy Chardonnay with loads of ripe pear, golden apple, and tart pineapple fruit and a surprising burst of lemon curd at the end.  Sweet spice and tangy butter weave in and out in this ripe, but wonderfully restrained, Chardonnay.

"Failla's 2012 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) is wonderfully tense and vibrant, especially within the context of the vintage. Lemon oil and floral notes jump from the glass in a graceful, chiseled Chardonnay long on class. The Chardonnay is done in equal parts stainless steel, barrel and concrete egg."  Antonio Galloni 92 points

"This is the personal project of Ehren Jordan, who was the long-time apprentice at Turley Cellars. These are all elegant, cool climate, finesse-styled wines that were obviously influenced by European rather than New World models. Jordan owns estate vineyards in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA and purchased fruit from some of the top growers in that region. The 2012 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast exhibits lots of pear, caramelized lemon and apple blossom notes in a medium-bodied, intense yet finesse style with good acidity, purity and texture."Wine Advocate 90 points

Small Vines Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012 Product #28221 (In Stock)
Small Vines Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012 Small Vines Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012

I saw these vines growing in Paul Sloan’s home vineyard just two years after they were planted, and I’ve been bugging him for an allocation of Chardonnay ever since.  This is Paul’s first commercial release, and it shows what Paul calls “obsessively tended vines” on the Russian River/Sonoma Coast borderline can deliver.  The vineyard is planted to a mixture of Hyde Wente and Kistler Mt Eden Wente clones – California Chardonnay classics – and cropped to 1.5 pounds of fruit per vine.  Organically farmed and hand-tended throughout the lovely 2012 growing season, this is a brilliant debut Chardonnay release.

Pretty aromas of ripe pear, golden apple, and caramel on the nose with a touch of fresh butter and hint of vanilla for complexity and toasted nuts emerging with air.  The flavors and texture are very pure and elegant, but with plenty of volume and intensity to the crisp apple, green pineapple, toasted nut and salty caramel flavors that race across the palate.  There’s enough acidity for freshness and to match with food, but the finish is soft and chalky with notes of vanilla, caramel, butter and lemon lingering nicely.  Delicious to  just sip and ponder and even better with scallops or a buttery chicken dish.

Patz & Hall Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012 Product #28590 (In Stock)
Patz & Hall Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012 Patz & Hall Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2012

Love the texture to this full-bodied, very long, California Chardonnay.

"Pale, bright yellow. Inviting aromas of lemon, tropical fruits and fresh herbs, plus an exotic suggest of botrytis. At once silky and sappy, showing a slight acid edge to the flavors of yellow fruits, floral honey, clove and salty minerals. This calmed down with aeration to show appealing texture and very good balance. An excellent opening shot to this line-up of chardonnays."International Wine Cellar 90 points

"The 2012 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is a big-time winner. There are nearly 9,000 cases of this wine, which was bottled at the end of July. Beautiful notes of ripe pineapple, orange marmalade, honeysuckle and white currants jump from the glass of this wine, which was made from a combination of clones such as the old Wente as well as the newer Burgundy Dijon clones. This wine has full body, great acidity, and is a fresh, gorgeous Chardonnay to drink over the next 3-4 years."Wine Advocate 93 points

Shane Pinot Noir La Reine Sonoma Coast 2012 Product #28127 (In Stock)
Shane Pinot Noir La Reine Sonoma Coast 2012 Shane Pinot Noir La Reine Sonoma Coast 2012

When the guy who used to make Kosta Browne turns out a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir under his own label, it's time to pay attention.  This stunner from the great 2012 harvest comes from two parcels in the cold Petaluma Gap, one near the crest of the hill and one at the warmer base.  Low yields, slow ripening, 10% whole clusters, and just 25% new French oak let the pure, ripe, fruit shine through over a firm, detailed, structure.

Shane's notes:  "A dark garnet color in the glass, the 2012 La Reine has a refined aromatic mélange of dark fruits and spice. The wine is focused on a panoply of ripe plum, dark cherries, sage, and black tea. Elements of allspice, cola, blueberry, and dark chocolate meld with refined tannins. The finish exhibits dark elements of tarragon, elderberry, and sandalwood."

Relic Kashaya Pinot Noir 2011 Product #27916 (In Stock)
Relic Kashaya Pinot Noir 2011 Relic Kashaya Pinot Noir 2011

Kashaya remains one of the richest, most dense, Pinot Noirs we've tasted from California's cool 2011 harvest – noticeably chunkier than the more elegant Avion.  While most Sonoma Coast Pinot ended up diluted by the early October rains, low yields here allowed the fruit to ripen more quickly and reach the crushpad before the skies opened. The unique blend of Dijon 115, Pommard, and Old Wente clones gave this uncommon complexity right out of the gate and, as the months go by, it’s getting even more layered and deep.  An exciting wine.

"Good dark red. Pungent raspberry, pepper, spices and loam on the nose. Sweet red fruit and spice flavors show good lift and richness but also a touch of heat (the alcohol here is 14.6%). The slightly aggressive finish offers notes of licorice and herbs. Three of the four blocks here were picked before the early-October rain."International Wine Cellar 90 points

Relic Avion Pinot Noir 2011 Product #28443 (In Stock)
Relic Avion Pinot Noir 2011 Relic Avion Pinot Noir 2011

Mike Hirby sourced the 2011 Avion from a tiny vineyard at 1200 feet elevation in the gorgeous hills between Sonoma and Petaluma. It’s a cool site that gets plenty of afternoon sunshine but also cooling breezes and frequent morning fog – perfect conditions for getting ripe Pinot fruit flavors while retaining fine acidity and keeping alcohols modest.  In 2011, yields were miniscule but quality outstanding in this raspberry and white pepper-scented wine of fine focus and delineation.  Just 150 or so cases made.

“From a vineyard above Durrell in the Petaluma Gap, at an altitude of 1,100 feet; 100% destemmed fruit. Good full red. Deep, scented aromas of crushed cherry, strawberry, briary raspberry and wild herbs. A creamy, spicy fruit bomb on the palate, with lovely depth and energy to its sappy red berry and sour cherry flavors. Hints of licorice and white pepper and some high-pitched spiciness give lift to this enticing wine. Finishes with firm but edge-free tannins and lingering notes of spice and wintergreen.”International Wine Cellar 92 points

Pahlmeyer Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2011 Product #28267 (In Stock)
Pahlmeyer Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2011 Pahlmeyer Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2011

Big, buttery, but still balanced.

"The 2011 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) emerges from the glass with honey, butter lemon oil, nectarines, mint and passion fruit, all supported by generous yet well-balanced French oak. A voluptuous wine for the year, the 2011 Chardonnay boasts impeccable balance and plenty of creaminess. It will appeal most to readers who appreciate bold, rich Chardonnays. Interestingly, the 2011 Chardonnay also clocks in at 14.9%, but the balance is far better in the Chardonnay than the Pinot. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018."Wine Advocate 92 points
