Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2009 Product #26941 (In Stock)
Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2009 Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2009

Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri and “Best Value of the Year”!  The highest honor awarded by the Italian’s guide to Italian wine doesn’t often go to wines from Puligia, much less wines that sell for this price.  From vineyards around the little Pulgia town of Salice Salentino, this is intended to be 100% Negromaro – although the vineyard is old and 5-10% of the vines planted years ago were probably Malvasia Nero.  Ripe fruit is picked in early September, rushed to the winery, and fermented cool in stainless steel.  Two years aging in one and two year-old small barrels rounds off the edges without adding oak flavors.

If you know Salice Salentino, you’ll recognize the aromas and flavors here.  The black color tells you this is a ripe, deep, wine, and the aromas of dark black plum and cherry, warm licorice root, savory spice, and purple flowers reinforce that impression.  In the mouth, the flavors are bold, warming and ripe – blackberry, black cherry, hot earth, roasted meat, spice and cocoa powder – with plenty of the meaty, earthy, complexity that Salice Salentino is known for.  But, it’s the purity, clarity, and wonderful freshness of flavor and texture that take this to another level.  Ripe, not roasted.  Powerful, not rustic.  Absolutely delicious with grilled sausages, roasted meats, or just nuts and olives, at a value price hard to resist.

Terredora Di Paolo Rosae Novae 2012 Product #28089 (In Stock)

Here's an utterly charming and delightfully delicious rose of Aglianico from the volcanic hills inland of Naples, Italy.  Crushed strawberry and cherry fruit get accents of fresh herb like thyme and even basil.  It's round and richly textured but finishes dry underneath the luscious strawberry, cherry, and raspberry fruit.  A great wine for antipasta and salami!

Terredora Di Paolo Aglianico d'Irpinia 2011 Terredora Di Paolo Aglianico d'Irpinia 2011

Aglianico can be tough and need years of cellar time - but not here!  Made all in tank from ripe fruit, it's bursting with crisp cherry and dried strawberry fruit with accents of damp earth and cracked black pepper.  Bright and juicy from first to last, it finishes with just a dusting of fine, ripe, tannin.  A great wine for lighter foods off the grill or with a a big plate of antipasti!

An old Greek grape that's at home in the hills inland from the bay of Naples.  This is a rich, exotic, example with loads of golden fruit and hints of licorice and anise.  Finishes chalky and bright - great with rich seafood!

"A white with some ash and papaya character that follow through to a full body, plus lovely fruit and a fresh finish. Wonderful intensity. Drink now."  James Suckling 91 points

Pietracupa Taurasi 2007 Product #28057 (In Stock)
Pietracupa Taurasi 2007 Pietracupa Taurasi 2007

Perhaps the best Aglianico we've ever tasted.  Big aromas of dusky cherry, green olive, fresh earth and crushed herb lead to a mouthful of rich but pure cherry, raspberry, olive and tobacco flavors.  Drives to the back of your palate in style with fantastically sophisticated tannins for a wine like this.  On the finish, juicy fruit pops back up under the tannin and lingers on and on.  A beautiful wine, but very little available.
