Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2011 Product #28153 (In Stock)
Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2011 Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2011

Here is my actual tasting note from the first time I tried this: “This is just stupid delicious.” A few more details – this is 100% Sangiovese made in staeinless steel that opens with fresh and lovely aromas of violets, purple fruits and crushed cherries. In the mouth it’s juicy and ripe with loads of pretty fruit and a dark, earthy, streak. Bright and clean through the end with a delicious note of coffee and cocoa dust emerging at the end. Drink it with a little chill with pizza and pasta or warmer with anything off the grill. Like I said: Stupid delicious.

Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010 Product #27327 (In Stock)
Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010 Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010

This Sangiovese from the fairly new Tuscan DOC of Montecucco waaay over-delivers for it's modest price. Lush aromas of dark cherry fruit and leather carry through to the sexy palate, which bursts with tangy ripe fruit dusted with fresh herb. There's lots of richness here, but also great energy from beginning to end where a hit of bitter chocolate and herb linger nicely. A whole lot of wine for the money.

Although Tuscany isn't known for its whites, this delicious, great-value Vernaccia is proof that maybe they should be! This refreshing summer sipper beguiles with aromas of white flowers, chammomile and a little fresh hay. Its fresh acidity and flavors of Meyer lemon and crunchy honeycrisp apple are presreved by stainless-steel fermentation. Great with appetizers out on the porch!

Brunetti Sangiovese Toscana 2011 Product #28114 (In Stock)
Brunetti Sangiovese Toscana 2011 Brunetti Sangiovese Toscana 2011

There's a LOT of wine in the bottle for the money here. Hand harvested, perfectly ripe, Tuscan Sangiovese with time in barrel is normally at least twice this price. Aromas of dark black cherry, balsamic, leather and spice lead to a lush mouthful of black cherry and kirsch flavors with hints of licorice, bitter chocolate and spice. Plenty of acidity and tannin for balance and food-friendliness and a lingering finish of sweet cherry fruit and spice make this a winner.

Genius Loci Sangiovese 2005 Product #27478 (In Stock)
Genius Loci Sangiovese 2005 Genius Loci Sangiovese 2005

Dave McIntyre recommends this elegant, mature Sangiovese, and so do we!

"This is very Old World in style: earthy, with sour cherry and cocoa notes typical of a sangiovese that picks up balsamic notes from aging in large casks. It reminds me of a Brunello, at a fraction of the price, and shows how well a “simple” Tuscan sangiovese can age. We don’t have to worry about cellaring it; that’s already been done for us. Alcohol content: 13 percent." **1/2 The Washington Post

"The 2005 Sangiovese Genius Loci is remarkably elegant and polished; qualities that were hard to come by in this challenging vintage. The plush, dark red fruit coats the palate all the way through to the long, refined finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015." Wine Advocate 90 points

Tenuta Le Calcinaie Vernaccia Di San Gimignano 2013 Product #28728 (In Stock)
Tenuta Le Calcinaie Vernaccia Di San Gimignano 2013 Tenuta Le Calcinaie Vernaccia Di San Gimignano 2013

In a region known mainly for light whites to pour for tourists after seeing San Gimignano's famous towers, Le Calcinaie's Vernacchia is a revelation. The unique light, sandy, soils of this vineyard tame Vernacchia's mineral austerity and let juicy lime, white plum and yellow peach pulp fruit pump through. A pretty note of fennel frond and fresh herb lends complexity to the flavors and the crisp, juicy, finish. Lots of character and depth here in a wine that's fun to just sip or enjoy with any light, fresh, foods.

Carpineta Fontalpino Dofana 2007 Product #26283 (In Stock)
Carpineta Fontalpino Dofana 2007 Carpineta Fontalpino Dofana 2007

Dofana is the top wine consulting winemaker Gioia Cresti produces at her family estate just 10 miles east of Siena. She hand harvests older vines of Sangiovese and relatively young (about 10 years) Petite Verdot from dry farmed vineyards at about 230 meters of altitude. Both get long, slow, fermentations (20 days for the Sangiovese and 25 for the Petite Verdot) with regular punchdowns to extract color, flavor, and structure. The intense, black, wine comes out of the fermenter and then ages for 20 months in French oak barrique before blending, bottling, and further aging in cellar.

“This is richer and has more fruit than the 2006. Super clean ripe fruit, think raspberries and currants. A very long finish on this wine. It still needs some time in the bottle but is very hard to resist now. Half Sangiovese and half Petit Verdot. Try to wait until after 2012.” James Suckling 93 points (from April 2013)

“Fabulous on the nose, with dark fruits and smoky, meaty undertones. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, fruity finish. There's a lovely richness and slight decadence to this. Equal parts Petit Verdot and Sangiovese. Best after 2012. 400 cases made.” (by James Suckling, October 2010)Wine Spectator 93 points
