Il Bastardo Sangiovese Toscana 2013 Product #29248 (In Stock)
Il Bastardo Sangiovese Toscana 2013 Il Bastardo Sangiovese Toscana 2013

A fun, flavorful, and fine value Tuscan Sangiovese made by Paolo Masi from grapes grown near Rufina in Chianti. Ripe aromas and flavors of cherry and red berry start off bright and fresh and then get darker with a little air. The juicy acidity and light tannins make this easy to just sip, but give it enough substance to enjoy with pizza, burgers, or a big bowl of pasta and red sauce.  There's enough going on here to hold your interest through a few glasses and - especially at this price - tempt you to open a second bottle as the night goes on.  Fun stuff!

La Bastarda Bianco Toscana 2013 Product #29363 (In Stock)
La Bastarda Bianco Toscana 2013 La Bastarda Bianco Toscana 2013

As the whimsical label suggests, there's no reason to take this fresh and fruit-filled Trebbiano (70%) and Chardonnay blend too seriously.  Big, juicy, white peach, apricot, and lemon fruit sings out here with more zesty peach fruit and a touch of bitter almond on the finish.  A fine sipper and even better companion for trout, scampi or white fish.

Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2011 Product #28153 (In Stock)
Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2011 Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2011

Here is my actual tasting note from the first time I tried this:  “This is just stupid delicious.”  A few more details – this is 100% Sangiovese made in staeinless steel that opens with fresh and lovely aromas of violets, purple fruits and crushed cherries.  In the mouth it’s juicy and ripe with loads of pretty fruit and a dark, earthy, streak.  Bright and clean through the end with a delicious note of coffee and cocoa dust emerging at the end.  Drink it with a little chill with pizza and pasta or warmer with anything off the grill.  Like I said:  Stupid delicious.

Palazzone Dubini Bianco 2013 Product #28739 (In Stock)
Palazzone Dubini Bianco 2013 Palazzone Dubini Bianco 2013

Here's a stunning value for anyone who loves Italian white wines - or just wants a juicy, crisp, and really tasting white wine at a great price.  The wine is made by Palazzone, the estate Steve Tanzer called, "“Unquestionably the number one small estate of Orvieto.”  Made from the younger vines that would otherwise goin into the estate's Orvieto, this is a beautiful, lively white from Umbria. Green apple, lime and watermelon flavours with a zesty mid palate. Great on its own, with salads or fish.

Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010 Product #27327 (In Stock)
Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010 Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010

This Sangiovese from the fairly new Tuscan DOC of Montecucco waaay over-delivers for it's modest price. Lush aromas of dark cherry fruit and leather carry through to the sexy palate, which bursts with tangy ripe fruit dusted with fresh herb. There's lots of richness here, but also great energy from beginning to end where a hit of bitter chocolate and herb linger nicely.  A whole lot of wine for the money.

Le Pupille Morellino Di Scansano 2012 Product #29353 (In Stock)
Le Pupille Morellino Di Scansano 2012 Le Pupille Morellino Di Scansano 2012

From Tuscany's coastal regions, Pupille's mainly Sangiovese (just a dash of Alicante and Malvasia Nera for complexity) is always wonderfully perfumed, but has an extra dose of ripe fruit this year.

"This is much fruitier than past vintages yet super fresh and clean. It's a wine that you want to drink all yourself. Medium to full body, fresh acidity and a long, bright finish. Very perfumed. Drink now. Excellent value."   James Suckling 91 points

"Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet red berries and cinnamon are some of the notes that lift from the glass in Le Pupille's 2012 Morellino di Scansano. This pliant, expressive Morellino is a great choice for drinking over the next 2-3 years. Drops of Alicante and Malvasia Nera round out the blend."  Antonio Galloni 88 points

Guicciardini Morellino Di Scansano Massi Di Mandorlaia 2011 Guicciardini Morellino Di Scansano Massi Di Mandorlaia 2011

From the southern Tuscan Coast, this blend of Sangiovese (85%) and equal parts Merlot, Cabernet, and Alicante delivers a lot of Italian energy with a touch of International flair.  Big aromas of Bing and black cherry plus fresh cut flowers lead to a juicy black cherry flavors with accents of leather, herb, and scorched earth.  The fruit keeps on pumping through the long, finely tanninc, finish.  A great match for rich meats or stews.

Gracciano Della Seta Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano 2011 Gracciano Della Seta Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano 2011

An exciting, 100% Sangiovese, Vino Nobile that's been softened by 24 months in large barrel but still retains a bit of Montepulciano's wildness.  Generous aromas of dark fruit, spiced, and aged tobacco.  Then a plush, velvety, mouthful of ripe raspberry, cherry, and balsamic macerated strawberry fruit with accents of smoke, spice, and leather.  The texture and finely tanninc finish are smooth and classy with nice squirt of cranberry tang at the end.

Tenuta di Valgiano Palistorti Rosso 2011 Product #29058 (In Stock)
Tenuta di Valgiano Palistorti Rosso 2011 Tenuta di Valgiano Palistorti Rosso 2011

A blend of biodynamically grown Sangiovese and 15% each Merlot and Syrah from pebble and sandstone laced vineyards overlooking the walled Tuscan city of Luca.  I can’t quite decide if this is more like a 3-4 year-old Brunello or a really nice vintage of Antinori’s Tignanello super-Tuscan.  From the nose to the rich, powerful, palate this explodes with pure black cherry, fruit blossom, spice, and expensive leather aromas and flavors.  The very deep flavors get support from fine-grained, ripe, tannins as hints of crushed herb, licorice, and expensive balsamic weave in and out of the long, long, finish.  Distinctive, delicious, and very nicely priced.

"The 2011 Palistorti di Valgiano is fabulous. A bevy of expressive red fruit, flowers, spices and mint hit the palate in this expressive, exuberant wine. Readers who want to learn about Valgiano can start here. This is a gorgeous entry-level offering."  Antonio Galloni 92 points
