My original notes say, "crisp and refreshing, but not watery," which sums things up nicely! La Cappuccina's Soave opens with fresh, lemony citrus flavors that make your mouth water, making it a great aperitif wine. Aromas of lemon peel, fresh almonds, and white flowers make you reach for another sip. It finishes with a pleasing saline note, almost a brininess on the palate, that makes it a wonderfully versatile food wine.
I could imagine sipping this with everything from Thai-inspired shrimp to a big entrée salad with grilled chicken (for those of us who haven't thrown in the towel on our New Year's Resolutions yet). It would also sing with a dish with richer, bolder flavors, like pasta with a creamy sauce or some salty, just-melting cheese.This is also the perfect white to keep knocking around in the refrigerator for those times when you want a glass of wine while you're getting dinner started and unwinding from the day. An "old school" Valpolicella from a fairly young estate (2004). A blend of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes from 40 year-old vines done all in tank, this features ripe black cherry fruit flavors and aromas with a dash of fresh, resiny, pine and herb. With a little air, the fruit gets darker and spicier and a lovely dried tobacco note emerges. Juicy and lightly tannic, this will work extremely well at table.

Not sure I fully understand the "only" 88 point rating here, but the tasting note from WA is spot on. As pure and delicious a Valpolicella as I've ever had from someone not named Quintarelli.

Now this is what Ripasso is supposed to taste like! Definitely marked by the dried fruit, tar, and earth flavors from the secondary fermentation on the lees of Amarone. But, there's still plenty of fresh sweet and sour cherry fruit and a vibrant, juicy, texture as well. This will sing with richer pasta dishes as well as grilled lamb loin or port. Very fine effort.

The benchmark in big, rich, Valpolicella Ripasso - a wine where Valpolicella juice has been soaked and undergone a second fermentation with the dried grape lees used for Amarone. Zenato's version ages in oak barrels to gain a little more depth, perfume, and softness.
