Vina Taboexa Albarino Rias Baixas 2015 Vina Taboexa Albarino Rias Baixas 2015

This long-time favorite Albarino takes a BIG step up in Europe's amazing 2015 vintage.  Wonderfully ripe and juicy with intense green peach, apricot, and white flower aromas and flavors.  Almost plump in the midpalate but then a big burst of selzery minerality and juicy citry acids snap everything into focus.  Mineral and citrus linger in this fun Alabarino with plenty of cut but no hard edges.

Palacio De Fefinanes Albarino Rias Baixas 2015 Product #30843 (In Stock)
Palacio De Fefinanes Albarino Rias Baixas 2015 Palacio De Fefinanes Albarino Rias Baixas 2015

It's not surprising that Palacio de Fifianes makes such outstanding wine - they've been at it since 1904!  The grapes grow on granite-laced soils in the Salnes Valley area of Rías Baixas. This is the "green" corner of Spain, with moisture, fog and cool temperatures blowing in regularly off the nearby Atlantic Ocean. The tang of the sea is in the air and on every table, where some of the world's best and freshest seafood takes center stage.  Not surprisingly, you'll find that same hint of brine in this delicious, all tank, Albarino.  While the 2015 hasn’t been reviewed yet, each of the past 4 releases has earned a 91 point rating from Vinous – and the 2015 is the best we’ve ever tasted!

Albarino isn't always aromatic, so the lovely scents of ripe citrus, pear, honeysuckle and white pepper are especially delightful here.  The flavors are just as lovely, with layers of orange, lime, apricot, and green apple fruit bursting across your palate and gaining complexity from dashes of fennel frond, white pepper, and salty sea shell minerality.  It's a vigorous, energetic, wine that keeps on pumping out delicious layers of flavor across a very long, mouthwatering, finish.  Well worth popping a bottle just to drink but it would be a shame not to enjoy it with briny shrimp, clams, or anything laced with olives or capers.

Benito Santos Albarino Rias Baixas 2014 Product #30717 (In Stock)
Benito Santos Albarino Rias Baixas 2014 Benito Santos Albarino Rias Baixas 2014

Remarkably creamy in texture for Albarino but still plenty fresh.

"Light, green-tinged yellow. Lively, precise scents of lemon zest, quince, mint and dusty minerals, with a suave floral overtone. Dry, racy and focused, offering vibrant citrus and orchard fruit flavors that put on weight with air while retaining vivacity. This bracing wine finishes spicy, stony and very long."  Vinous (Reynolds) 91 points

Shanela Albarino Rias Baixas 2013 Product #30480 (In Stock)
Shanela Albarino Rias Baixas 2013 Shanela Albarino Rias Baixas 2013

Albarino - from the Galicia region in northwestern Spain - is all about the sea.  Proximity to the ocean makes this one of Spain's few green, verdant, regions and oysters, clams, shrimp, and other seafood appear on tables (and in paella) throughout the region.  Not surprisingly, Galicia's best white grape, Albarino, is all about the sea, too, loaded with fresh citrus fruit and a selzer/salty minerality that shines with briny fish.

Shanela is a great example, 100% biodynamically grown Albarino that's hearvested ripe, fermented cool, and then given a full 16 months on the fine lees to develop savory, mineral, complexity. Unusually rich and creamy-textured for Albarino, this shows ripe citrus and stone fruit on the nose and palate with an attractive sweet ripeness balanced by firm, salty, minerality.  Zesty, fresh, and delicious - with or without the seafood paella!

Frore de Carme Envidia Cochina Albarino 2014 Product #30393 (In Stock)
Frore de Carme Envidia Cochina Albarino 2014 Frore de Carme Envidia Cochina Albarino 2014

Yes, it's organic/biodynamic (check out the bottling info on the back label), aged in barrel, rests in a strange bottle and has a snail on the label.  Ignore all that, because this wine shines like sunshine in the glass. It's a rich, creamy, selzery Albarino with tightly wound apricot, passion fruit, and seashell aromas and flavors that broaden and deepen with air.  It's a compelling drink-alone choice but shellfish (or even snails) are its natural match. A stunner.

Palacio De Fefinanes Albarino 1583 Rias Baixas 2014 Product #29979 (In Stock)
Palacio De Fefinanes Albarino 1583 Rias Baixas 2014 Palacio De Fefinanes Albarino 1583 Rias Baixas 2014

Current owner Juan Gil de Araujo Gonzales de Careaga created this unique and luxurious Albarino as an homage to Gonzalo Sarmiento Valladares, Viscount of Fefinanes, who was born in 1583 and built the castle that holds today’s winery in the early 1600s. You’ll find plenty of classic Albarino fruit, minerality, and freshness here but also another layer of complexity and interest from careful fermentation and brief aging in wood cask.  It’s a perfect match for richer or more complex dishes – a perfect alternative to outstanding white Burgundy.  As Wine Advocate said of the 2011, "Albarino from Rias Baixas does not come much better than this."

“Green-tinged yellow. Highly expressive aromas of fresh pear, orange zest and jasmine are enlivened by a strong mineral accent. Silky, sharply focused citrus fruit and floral flavors show outstanding energy, with an undertone of chalkiness and no excess fat. Concentrated but also lithe, with a long, penetrating finish displaying firm mineral bite and a jolt of iodine.”  Vinous (Reynolds) 92 points
