Franco Serra Barbera d'Alba 2012 Product #28123 (In Stock)
Franco Serra Barbera d'Alba 2012 Franco Serra Barbera d'Alba 2012

From a small Barbaresco producer, this fresh and fruity Barbera delivers a lot more complexity and satisfaction than it's humble price suggests.  Fresh and juicy Bing/black cherry fruit roll across your tongue with accents of fresh leather and aged Balsamic.  Long on the palate and mouthwatering finish where very light tannin gives a little extra support.  A pretty sophisticated wine for the price - great with pizza, pasta, or even on its own.

Oddero Barbera d'Alba 2010 Product #27357 (In Stock)
Oddero Barbera d'Alba 2010 Oddero Barbera d'Alba 2010

For this last few vintages, Oddero’s classy Barbera d’Alba has been on a hot streak.  The 2007 made Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list and the 2009 (the last release reviewed), was a rock-solid 90 pointer that became a huge Chain Bridge Cellars customer favorite.  Given how different the 2009 and 2010 vintages were, it’s a bit surprising how similar the just arrived 2010 is to those previous great releases.

Once again, this is an honest, fresh, take on one of Italy’s most versatile food wines.  Aromas of bright cherry, smoke, and a touch of wood spice lead to juicy flavors of red fruit, fresh cut flowers, and earthy spice.  Tangy sour cherry acidity gives the flavors a nice lift and makes your mouth water on the long finish with just the right dash of tannin at the end.  The kind of red that makes almost any Italian food better, but will be just as much fun with a burger or garlicky roast chicken.

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2011 Product #27939 (In Stock)
Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2011 Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2011

This Barbera benchmark value is better than ever in 2011.  And, still priced to be Vietti's "calling card" - a great value!

"Distinctly blacker on the nose than the Tre Vigne, offering rather powerful scents of black cherry and crushed blackberry sweetened by caramel oak. Plush, strong and deep, with black fruit and licorice flavors complicated by oaky torrefaction (the wine was in small barrels until November of 2012, then spent a few months in big casks before being moved to stainless steel to await bottling). Distinctly more tannic and clenched than the Tre Vigne and less exclusively about fruit."International Wine Cellar 91 points

Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 2010 Product #27563 (In Stock)
Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 2010 Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 2010

The 2010 harvest was fantastic for Barbera, and that blend of fine ripeness and zippy acidity shines through in spades here.  Luciano Sandrone blends fruit from 3 vineyards for this wine and then ages it for 12 months in 500 liter French oak barrels (about half new).  The wood allows Barbera’s tangy acids to relax and adds a little tannin, but the concentrated fruit has no trouble sopping up any oak flavors.  A great wine for big, boldly flavored, foods.

“Sandrone’s 2010 Barbera d’Alba is remarkably juicy and exuberant. There is plenty of rich, fleshy fruit in the glass, but at the same time, I expected to find more minerality and energy in this vintage. On the plus side, the French oak, which can sometimes be dominant, is better integrated than it has been at times. Overall, the 2010 is an excellent choice for drinking over the near and medium term.”Wine Enthusiast 89 points

“A lush, modern style, delivering plenty of power on a supple texture. Possesses definition and balance, intensity and length--just about all you could ask for in a Barbera. Drink now through 2015. 500 cases imported.”Wine Spectator 92 points

Vietti Barbera D'alba Scarrone Vigna Vecchia 2010 Product #26716 (In Stock)
Vietti Barbera D'alba Scarrone Vigna Vecchia 2010 Vietti Barbera D'alba Scarrone Vigna Vecchia 2010

From nearly 100 year old Barbera vines in the heart of a Barolo vineyard, this once again shows off fantastic concentration and power for this varietal.  Dark, concentrated, black cherry and raspberry fruit with accents of aged balsamic, chocolate, tar, smoke, and licorice root.  Packed and brooding right now, needs decanting or 4 years in cellar to really shine. Then, look out!

"Vietti's 2010 Barbera d'Alba Scarrone Vigna Vecchia shows the pedigree of these old vines. Rich and explosive in style, yet buffered by fabulous minerality, the 2010 Vigna Vecchia stands out for its exceptional balance and polish. This is a great vintage for one of Piedmont's icon wines."
