Franco Serra Barbera d'Alba 2012 Product #28123 (In Stock)
Franco Serra Barbera d'Alba 2012 Franco Serra Barbera d'Alba 2012

From a small Barbaresco producer, this fresh and fruity Barbera delivers a lot more complexity and satisfaction than it's humble price suggests.  Fresh and juicy Bing/black cherry fruit roll across your tongue with accents of fresh leather and aged Balsamic.  Long on the palate and mouthwatering finish where very light tannin gives a little extra support.  A pretty sophisticated wine for the price - great with pizza, pasta, or even on its own.

Crivelli Barbera D' Asti 2013 Product #28413 (In Stock)
Crivelli Barbera D' Asti 2013 Crivelli Barbera D' Asti 2013

Crivelli specializes in the obscure Ruche grape, but they turn out an outstanding Barbera from excellent vineyards in the northern part of Asti, too.  Essentially organic grapes get a gentle fermentation and then time in large oak cask to add a little structure, but without obscuring any of the tangy black cherry and red plum fruit.  A zesty, fresh, Barbera that's perfect for pizza or pasta, but worth paying attention to as well.

Oddero Barbera d'Alba 2011 Product #28605 (In Stock)
Oddero Barbera d'Alba 2011 Oddero Barbera d'Alba 2011

The go-to producer of our go-to varietal for refreshing, food friendly, fun has fully captured the potential of the outstanding 2011 Barbera harvest in Piemonte.  What makes 2011 so exciting for Barbera is how the hot summer days delivered more black cherry and blackberry fruit than usual while the cool nights retained classic levels of acidity and freshness.  While the best examples (like this one) will do nicely in your cellar for a few years, there’s no reason to delay gratification beyond the time it takes you to get home from the store.

Here you’ll find generous aromas of juicy black and red fruit plus a handful of crushed violets and the barest hint of smoke.  Take a sip and you’ll love the super smooth, almost slick, texture and big flavors of crushed berries, black cherry, licorice and subtle sweet spice.  The fresh, juicy, finish will keep pulling you back for another sip and I suspect you’ll find yourself saying “Yum” a lot as the bottle drains.  Even though it’s delicious by itself, where this bright Barbera shines is at table with sausage, roast chicken, grilled pork, and – of course – pizza or pasta.  A do not miss stunner.

Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 2010 Product #27563 (In Stock)
Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 2010 Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 2010

The 2010 harvest was fantastic for Barbera, and that blend of fine ripeness and zippy acidity shines through in spades here.  Luciano Sandrone blends fruit from 3 vineyards for this wine and then ages it for 12 months in 500 liter French oak barrels (about half new).  The wood allows Barbera’s tangy acids to relax and adds a little tannin, but the concentrated fruit has no trouble sopping up any oak flavors.  A great wine for big, boldly flavored, foods.

“Sandrone’s 2010 Barbera d’Alba is remarkably juicy and exuberant. There is plenty of rich, fleshy fruit in the glass, but at the same time, I expected to find more minerality and energy in this vintage. On the plus side, the French oak, which can sometimes be dominant, is better integrated than it has been at times. Overall, the 2010 is an excellent choice for drinking over the near and medium term.”Wine Enthusiast 89 points

“A lush, modern style, delivering plenty of power on a supple texture. Possesses definition and balance, intensity and length--just about all you could ask for in a Barbera. Drink now through 2015. 500 cases imported.”Wine Spectator 92 points

Vietti Barbera d'Alba Scarrone 2011 Product #28390 (In Stock)
Vietti Barbera d'Alba Scarrone 2011 Vietti Barbera d'Alba Scarrone 2011

There is a ton of wine in this bottle, and it’s wine that works as well being served at a formal dinner party with sophisticated food as it does with a couple of slices of pizza shared with someone special.

"The 2011 Barbera d'Alba Scarrone is drop- dead gorgeous. Powerful, rich and intense, the 2011 flows across the palate with layers of dark, mineral-infused fruit. Smoke, tar and licorice all flesh out in a Barbera that impresses for its pure drive and pedigree. The 2011 Scarrone brings together the fabulous depth and opulence of the year, but with a marvelous sense of restraint. This is a terrific showing from Vietti."  Antonio Galloni 92+ Points

"Good saturated, bright red-ruby. Aromas of black cherry, licorice, violet and bitter chocolate. Fat, lush and round, offering terrific intensity to its black cherry fruit. Finishes with superb length and very suave tannins. Currado is now using more large Stockinger casks for this wine."International Wine Cellar 91 points

From nearly 100 year old Barbera vines in the heart of a Barolo vineyard, this once again shows off fantastic concentration and power for this varietal.  Dark, concentrated, black cherry and raspberry fruit with accents of aged balsamic, chocolate, tar, smoke, and licorice root.  The first time Wine Spectator reviewed this wine (it's 5th vintage in 1997, they gave is a whopping 95 point rating and said, “Who knew Barbera produced this quality?”  This is a fine opportunity to get to know one of Italy’s great wines – and one that’s a joy to drink as well!
