Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Blanc 2015 Product #30677 (In Stock)
Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Blanc 2015 Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Blanc 2015

Back in the old days, pretty much all white Bordeaux was a blend of the region’s three complementary grapes:  Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle.  As Loire Valley and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc became more popular in the 1980s, Bordeaux growers began phasing out first Muscadelle (too hard to grow) and then Semillon (usually pulled up in favor of Cabernet and Merlot).  The resulting Sauvignon-dominant (or 100% Sauvignon) white Bordeauxs can be a lot of refreshing, pool-side, fun – but they lack more traditional wine’s complexity of flavors and mellow, food-friendly, textures.

So, finding a traditional blend like this one is a real treat, especially at this great value price.  Give it a swirl and you’ll find a classic white Bordeaux nose of lemon/tangerine fruit, grapefruit pith, a bit of fresh mown grass, and the note of wet wool that Semillon brings to Bordeaux.  With air, a note of passion fruit and crushed savory herb emerges.  It’s light to medium-bodied and very fresh and happy in the mouth with flavors of lemon drop, tangerine, crushed herb and passion fruit puree.  On the finish, the fresh lemon and lime zest character comes forward and you’ll notice your mouth watering as the lemon and herb flavors linger on.   A lovely wine for any shellfish and herb dish or for salads with goat cheese.

Ch Recougne Bordeaux Superieur 2011 375ml Ch Recougne Bordeaux Superieur 2011 375ml

Half Bottles!  Perfect for an evening sip.

"A winner from the Milhade family, Chateau Recougne has a reputation for lasting 20-30 years in the bottle in many vintages. I do not think the 2011 has that much staying power, but it over-delivers in body, richness, density and length. It is a shockingly good effort displaying a dark ruby color as well as abundant notes of earth, licorice and black currants, surprising body, richness and depth. A major sleeper of the vintage, it should drink well for 7-8 years."Wine Advocate 88 points

Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2014 Product #30639 (In Stock)
Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2014 Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2014

For years you’ve loved the ‘little’ Bordeaux that Ch La Roche St Jean have been pumping out – proving that there’s much more to Bordeaux than eye-wateringly expensive reds that need to be cellared for decades. This large region in Southwest France makes oceans of wine, most of it at very reasonable prices like the wines from Ch La Roche St Jean.  This is a classic blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon done without oak, making it a lighter take on traditional Bordeaux flavors.

The aromas are of ripe plums and blackberries, with just a hint of something floral or powdery. A little whiff of cedar reminds you you’re smelling Bordeaux varieties from their homeland and not warmer climes like California or Argentina. There’s a little Bing cherry in there, too. On the palate, that cherry flavor really carries through, and the midpalate is surprisingly rich with lovely, ripe plum flavors – a lot of wine for the money! A little chalky tannin cleans up the finish.

Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Rouge 2012 Product #28783 (In Stock)
Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Rouge 2012 Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Rouge 2012

We’re not sure why this very classic red Bordeaux isn’t a lot more expensive.  Unlike most “value” Bordeaux, it’s based the region’s best, most aristocratic grape, Cabernet Sauvignon.  The one-third Merlot adds volume and plumpness and the time part of the wine spends in new French oak barrels – a rarity in value Bordeaux – gives polish, spice, and added complexity.

The aromas here scream "Bordeaux" with dark black currant, milk chocolate, cedar and tobacco notes and chocolate covered cherries all intermingling nicely.  The aromas suggest a rich, luscious, wine and that’s just what you’ll find when you taste it, too.  Red and black currant and tangy cherry fruit flavors make up the wine’s core with bitter chocolate (unlike the milkier chocolate on the nose), cocoa powder accents, cedar and crushed herb accents lending complexity and interest.  Even though the texture is rich and full, the wine retains Bordeaux’s classic appetizing dryness and aristocratic restraint, with fine, crisp, tannins lying underneath the lingering savory soy and smoke flavors.  Performs like a $20 wine, which makes this price even more attractive!

Vallegarcia Petit Hipperia Bordeaux Blend 2011 Product #30966 (In Stock)
Vallegarcia Petit Hipperia Bordeaux Blend 2011 Vallegarcia Petit Hipperia Bordeaux Blend 2011

Who'd have thought that the heart of Spain's Montes de Toledo region would be the place to find a delicious Cabernet-based red?  The Advocate got the quality level right, but don't sweat the "herb" comments - this delivers loads of ripe currant and berry fruit with big spice notes and a smooth, generous, finish.  A stellar value!

"A (Bordeaux) blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot aged for eight months in oak barrels. The wine has a strong bell pepper strike, intensely vegetal and herbal, in a left-bank style with a core of red cherries. The palate is light to medium-bodied, quite fluid, highly drinkable and tasty, ending mineral. This is great value Bordeaux blend."Wine Advocate 90 points

A traditional blend of about 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Semillon that sees little or no oak.  Nicely complex aromas of fresh green grass, lemon and orange citrus, with a hint of wet wool - the classic smell of Semillon.  Clean and fresh and very brisk on the palate with the juicy fruit taking center stage up front and then loads of citrus and a bright mineral note emerging on the back.

Another fine value vintage from this long-time favorite.

"This well-known Bordeaux Superieur, which has a fabulous reputation for aging 20-30 years in certain vintages, comes from proprietor Xavier Milhad. The 2012, a blend of 78% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, has a dense ruby/plum color and attractive, juicy blackcurrant fruit. Supple, round and generous, this is an over-achiever and a sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 5-10 years, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasts longer."Wine Advocate 87 points

As Wine Enthusiast said last year, "There is nothing wimpy about this Bordeaux-style blend except the price. It way over-delivers."  Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with splashes of Cab Franc, Syrah, Merlot and Petit Verdot, this loads up your mouth with bold raspberry, strawberry and cranberry fruit and a crisp note of fresh herb.  Ripe, but not sweet or heavy, and finishing with good length and mouthwatering freshness.  Great cookout or party juice here!

Not quite sure about the label, but there's definitely some sex-appeal to this big, rich, red.  A blend of Cabernet  Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah from California's Lodi region, this pumps out big aromas and flavors of black cherry, red plum, blackcurrant and more with subtle accents of herb and oak spice.  Creamy and mouthfilling for sure, but not heavy (just 13.7% abv) and finishing juicy and fresh with a notes of pomegranate, cherry, vanilla and spice lingering.  Fun stuff!

Someday, all the little Bordeaux from the great 2010 harvest will be gone, but until then, the values remain superb.  Here's another, based on 40% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cab Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.  The Verdot really shows her in notes of candied violet and rich chocolate while the Cabernets add cedar, tobacco, currant, and dark cherry notes.  Finishes firm with spice, cedar and currant lingering.  Delicious right now and will improve for another 5 years or so.

Ch Larose Perganson Haut Medoc 2009 Product #30194 (In Stock)
Ch Larose Perganson Haut Medoc 2009 Ch Larose Perganson Haut Medoc 2009

A rare 2009 Bordeaux that delighted both America’s Robert Parker and Britan’s Jancis Robinson on release and has just gotten better since.  It's from 35 year-old vines growing on classic Bordeaux gravel soils just outside Pauillac and St. Julien, aged in tank (15%) and oak (85%) including about 50% new French oak.  The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon (for structure and power), 45% Merlot (for body and fruit) and 5% Petit Verdot (color, perfume), all from sustainably farmed 35 year-old vines.  Both British critic Jancis Robinson (17/20 points) and American Robert Parker (90 points, Sleeper of the Vintage") loved it on release, but it's even better now - as you'll see from James Suckling's just released review. A rich, satisfying, Bordeaux to drink right now with beef and lamb or hold through 2024.

"This is the posh sister to Larose-Trintaudon from vineyards in Arcins. Healthy crimson. Very sophisticated, swish perfume. Tastes as though an enormous amount of attention has been lavished on this wine. Top-quality oak for a start and really concentrated fruit. Lively and ripe. Great balance."  Jancis Robinson 17/20 points

“Complex aromas of blueberries, licorice and walnuts follow through to a full body, round and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Very fine indeed. Drink or hold.”  James Suckling 92 points (October, 2015)

"A sleeper of the vintage and impressive is their cuvee called Larose Perganson, which in 2009 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. It has the silkiness of its sibling, but is fuller-bodied, with more layers of fruit and glycerin and a heady finish (14.3% alcohol). It is opulent and pure, with loads of cassis, black raspberry and licorice notes backed up with some subtle oak. Drink it over the next decade."Wine Advocate 90 points

""The La Gorre has a very attractive bouquet with lively, vivacious black cherries, boysenberry and crushed stone that is well defined and opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins. The acidity is crisp and the finish tense, with hints of graphite on the finish. This is a well-crafted Cru Bourgeois.
