- 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Product #25671 (In Stock)
-
-
A perennial "Best Seller" in restaurants, and a very fine value in Washington Cabernet. 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon features aromas of red currants and raspberries with subtle hints of spice. Spiced cherry & plum flavors are joined by notes of cocoa and complemented by fine velvety tannins. A little Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot help drive the fruit forward and keep things soft and lush.
- Angulo Innocenti Cabernet Sauvignon La Consulta 2011 Product #27168 (In Stock)
-
-
No question: this is less "serious" than Mariano Innocenti's 2011 Malbec, but, boy, is it fun to drink! Fresh, generous, aromas of currant, herb and spice mingle with notes of blackberry and tangy cherry in the mouth. A licorice root note gives this a little complexity, but not too much - this juicy, clean, and bright Cabernet is meant to enjoy with friends and a nice, fresh, burger.
"Lively aromas of cassis, black cherry, minerals and licorice. Supple on entry, then fine-grained and a bit less pliant in the middle, with dark berry and licorice flavors enlivened by minerality. Finishes firmly tannic but not dry or hard." International Wine Cellar 88 points
- Cakebread Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 Product #26126 (In Stock)
-
-
In 2009, Cakebread turned out their usual classic Napa Cabernet with just a touch more of everything you like. Smoky, campfire, aromas with notes of black currant, olive, and berry jam. Layered flavors of black currant, olive, smoke and spice and a clean, focused, firm, finish. Fine for steak now and will improve for 8+ years.
- Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Product #26232 (In Stock)
-
-
An American classic that always drinks well young, middle-aged, and old.
"Ripe cherries crushed in a snifter, a subtle smell of ripeness. And a bit of grape pumice at fermentation, rustic. Other nuances come to mind- smoke in a forest cabin, earth, spice and cola. The flavors in this wine are genuinely good, but the textural elements are its most exceptional feature. The entry wanders, deliberating, then evolves and expands to cocoa- like fine tannins in harmony with oak, fruit and acidity. A balanced and harmonious wine with a long evolution." (Winery Notes)
- Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 1.5l Product #26593 (In Stock)
-
-
This always ages gracefully and well, but never better than in Magnum!
"Supple and creamy-textured, with mocha, ripe plum and cherry flavors that show touches of tobacco, espresso and underbrush. Full-bodied, gaining tannic traction on the finish, elegant and readily approachable. Drink now through 2018."Wine Spectator 91 points
- Ch Montelena Cabernet Estate 2009 Product #26917 (In Stock)
-
-
A benchmark for great Napa Valley Cabernet.
"Highly perfumed aromas of black cherry and menthol lifted by rose and spice oils. Suave, pure and vibrant, with red berry and spice flavors lifted by a pungent minty quality. Nothing black fruit about this vintage. Finishes with fine-grained, rather silky tannins and terrific energy. Less forbidding at this young stage than many recent vintages of this wine, and in a distinctly food-friendly style. This wine benefited dramatically from its final months in barrel."International Wine Cellar 93 points
"Montelena’s 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate wraps around the palate with serious depth. Even with all of its intensity, the 2009 has a silkiness that makes it incredibly delicious at this early stage. Red berries, flowers, tobacco and sweet herbs all flesh out on the generous, radiant finish. While many 2009s are a bit tight today, Montelena’s 2009 Estate is showing very nicely, although it is keeping some cards close to the vest. I imagine the 2009 will start to enter its prime drinking window around age 8-10 and drink well for at least another decade beyond that. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029."Wine Advocate 93+ points
- Ch Montelena Cabernet Napa 2010 Product #26918 (In Stock)
-
-
As Wine Advocate says, ""It’s great to see this historic property making wines that live up to its reputation." Wait if you can...or just decant it a while now.
"Chateau Montelena’s 2010 Cabernets are among the highlights in this set of new releases, although the 2011 Chardonnay is pretty terrific as well. Bo Barrett credits his experiences in 1987 and 1988 as a big reason he was able to handle the stresses of the 2010 vintage, in particular the late season heat spikes that gave growers fits. A big, mouth filling wine, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, shows the personality of the vintage in its intense fruit. There is plenty of underlying structure in this deep, resonant Cabernet Sauvignon. Mint, flowers and sweet red berries are some of the nuances that are woven into the finish. This is far from an easygoing Napa Cabernet. Although delicious today, it should drink well for a number of years. Another year or so in bottle should help the elements come together even more fully. The 2010 is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024."Wine Advocate 92 points
- Chilensis Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 Product #27006 (In Stock)
-
-
This is a big "bang for the buck" Cabernet from Chile that reminds you how Chile first established its global reputation for top quality Cab at rock-bottom prices. Fruit for this wine grows near Chile’s Coastal Mountain range in the Colchagua Valley. Daytime high temperatures can reach 98 degrees here, but cooling breezes from the Pacific Ocean cool the fruit at night to preserve freshness and acidity.
This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon delivers plenty of classic Cabernet fruit – currant, plum, and blackberries. It also display's Chile's trademark whiff of herbs and some appealing tobacco aromas, giving the wine more complexity than you’d expect at this price. In the mouth, it’s juicy and satisfying, with an extra dose of black raspberry and currant fruit. The juicy acids keep everything in balance and make this a flexible companion with a wide range of foods. - Clos Robert Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 Product #25534 (In Stock)
-
-
Bob Stack is best known as an importer of fine value wines from around the world (his Red Dust Shiraz has been a favorite here for years). He named his California negotiant venture Clos Robert to clearly indicate his preference for French-styled Cabs, and that’s what he delivers here. The 2008 Clos Robert Cab is made from a mix of purchased fruit that Bob vinifies and wine he buys from a range of suppliers across California.
The 2008 Clos Robert is terrific blend of California ripeness and Bordeaux style. The aromas and flavors lead with big red currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit that fill your mouth from side to side without ever becoming heavy or clumsy. Notes of dark chocolate, mocha, and sweet spice add complexity and juicy acids and fine tannins keep the wine precise and refreshing. Certainly a great match for a grilled burger, but this will stand up to strip steak and delight on its own as well. - Continuum Proprietary Red 2009 Product #26477 (In Stock)
-
-
Very limited.
"Medium ruby-red. Deep, brooding aromas of cassis, licorice, dark chocolate and warm spices. Sweet and round on entry, then rather powerful in the middle, showing lovely floral lift to its medicinal black fruit flavors. Plenty of mouthfilling texture here but shapely too. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins. Comes across as a bit less sweet and pliant now than the 2008, but this is in a rather brooding phase today and needs time."International Wine Cellar 93 points
"I was super-impressed with the two wines I tasted from Continuum Estate, Tim Mondavi’s new venture on Pritchard Hill, not far from Chappellet and Bryant. Mondavi is gradually moving towards 100% estate fruit, but these early vintages include some fruit from vineyards in Oakville and Stags Leap. Continuum is distinguished by a fairly large presence of Cabernet Franc. This is one of the most exciting new properties in Napa Valley. The 2009 Continuum comes across as much more understated next to the 2008. It has plenty of silkiness and finesse, but less of the size and shape of its older sibling. Dark cherries, espresso, exotic spices and licorice are woven together in a fabric of notable elegance and harmony. The 2009 Continuum is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot, 82% of which came from estate-grown fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. Wine Advocate 94 points
"Sleek and understated, making its mark with firm, dense, tightly wound espresso, dried berry, crushed rock and black licorice flavors, with a finish that emphasizes the loamy earthiness. The tannins are firm and well-integrated."Wine Spectator 94 points

- Educated Guess Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 Product #27033 (In Stock)
-
-
A consistent winner in the "value Cab" category for a few years now, the 2011 Educated Guess is even richer and more full of unctuous blackcurrant, vanilla, milk chocolate, and spice character than usual. A blend of 100% Napa fruit (mainly Rutherford and St. Helena this year) with a good dose of French and American Oak, this is classic Napa steak or sipping Cabernet with a creamy texture and just enough fine tannin to hold its shape.
- Efeste Final Final Columbia Valley 2009 Product #26434 (In Stock)
-
-
Efeste keeps turning out fascinating, delicious, and wonderfully food-friendly wines from their vineyards in Washington's Columbia Valley. Final Final is one of the few blended wines they make, a marriage of Cabernet Sauvignon (56%), Syrah (42%), and Mouvedre (2%). Cab provides the backbone of the wine, delivering structure, power, and black currant fruit. The Syrah adds juicy black fruits and a touch of spice. Even this tiny bit of Mouvedre delivers more spice and fantastic earthy note. At only 13.3% ABV, this is fresh and bright as well as rich and deep. Fantastic steak and grilled meat wine!
"Very firm and chewy, this red features tannins swarming around its pure currant and fresh berry flavors, finishing with refinement. Needs time."Wine Spectator 90 points
- Felino Vina Cobos (Paul Hobbs) Cabernet Sauvingon 2011 Product #26233 (In Stock)
-
-
As Wine Advocate says, Paul Hobbs’s “Felino label has for a number of years been synonymous with value.” Another fine vintage for this big, lush, Argentine Cabernet that’s jam-packed with black fruit, chocolate, spice, and tobacco aromas and flavors. Lush and plush and nicely concentrated, this is great with a steak or just to sip.
- Forman Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2009 Product #26827 (In Stock)
-
-
From a Napa Valley original, the 2009 Forman Cab is a bit more lush than usual, but just as fine as ever. Needs a long decant now to show its best - or, better, a couple of years in cellar.
"Good deep, bright red-ruby. Bitter cherry and violet on the vibrant nose. Svelte and suave on the palate, with cool dark cherry and cassis fruit complicated by fresh herbs, flowers and a whiff of meat. Spicy minerality builds on the persistent, refreshing finish. I underrated this wine a year ago from barrel as it was extremely tight then, but I should note that the finished wine quickly went into a shell in the glass. I look forward to following this elegant, European-styled cabernet over the next 10 to 15 years."International Wine Cellar 93 points
"Ric Forman is arguably Napa Valley’s first superstar winemaker. Although sometimes overlooked today, there is little question Forman has had a profound influence on a number of younger winemakers who still speak of him with great reverence. In 2012 Forman celebrated his 46th harvest. Today, Forman counts on the assistance of his son Toby, in running this small, family-owned jewel of an estate. As for the wines, they are superb, but, best of all, remain realistically priced for the consumer who wants to drink top-flight Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon without having to take out a second mortgage. The Chardonnay is made in the non-malo style Forman pioneered in the 1970s. Forman’s Cabernet is one of the classic masterpieces of Napa Valley.
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon appears to have clamped down a bit since I tasted it last year. An unusually up-front, juicy wine from Forman, the 2009 is laced with expressive dark red fruit, flowers, mint, cinnamon, licorice and menthol. There is a softness and suppleness to the 2009 that is impossible not to love. Layers of fruit continue to build on the juicy, silky finish. The 2009 looks to be one of the more accessible wines of the vintage, but it also needs at least several years to lose some of its baby fat and primary notes. The 2009 is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029."Wine Advocate 95 points
- Joseph Phelps Insignia Proprietary Red 2008 Product #25155 (In Stock)
-
-
"The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Insignia is a towering, statuesque wine bursting with blackberry jam, tar, spices, leather and licorice. It shows fabulous depth and richness backed up by serious, imposing tannins that suggest it has a long life. Ideally, the 2008 should be purchased by those who can be patient; it is not a wine for those seeking immediate gratification. The blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038."Wine Advocate 97 points
- Justin Cabernet Paso Robles 2010 375ml Product #26297 (In Stock)
-
-
From the winery: Beautifully balanced, with attractive aromas of black fruit and spice. On the nose it presents an attractive mix of red and black fruit of currants, cherry and blackberry layered with spicy notes of anise, vanilla and with a subtle cedar character from an American oak influence. Complex with bright fruit of blackcurrant, cherry, and boysenberry mixed with licorice and subtle cedar notes on a long finish.
- Ladera Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2009 Product #26775 (In Stock)
-
-
Ladera is best known as a Howell Mountain Cab specialists, but we prefer the Napa Valley designate which includes a dash of Petit Verdot and Syrah. As the Advocate suggests, the 2009 is for drinking now - but how is that bad?!
"Ladera’s 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is a relatively simple, straightforward offering in this vintage. Plums, sweet spices, crushed flowers and menthol are woven together nicely. The wine’s mid-weight structure suggests it is best enjoyed upon release and for a handful of years thereafter. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019."Wine Advocate 89 points
- Leese-Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 Product #27171 (In Stock)
-
-
Deep purple in color, the 2011 Leese Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon blend jumps from the glass with aromas of juicy blackberries, ripe blueberries, dark chocolate, and toasted walnuts. Black currants, ripe blackberries, dark cherry, milk chocolate, espresso, clove, and vanilla oak nuances. The finish is truly lingering with a lot of dark blue fruit notes.
- Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2010 Product #27167 (In Stock)
-
-
This robust, ripe, California Cabernet is even more impressive considering the challenging 2010 vintage, one of the coolest and longest ever. Winemaker Michael Martini took the best Cabernet Sauvingon from thee different Alexander Valley Vineyards and then blended in 10% Petit Sirah to add more color and ripe black fruit. Aging for 14 months in a mixture of new and used oaks let the wine come together and added a dash of chocolate and spice, but avoided any overt oaky flavors – important for a winery whose founder hated the taste of wood! Dark and robust now, but soft enough on the long finish to enjoy with grilled meats or a 30 minute decant. Excellent value.
“Martini’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is very tight today, but it nevertheless dazzles with expressive dark red fruit, grilled herbs, licorice and dried flowers. An exotic, utterly beguiling Cabernet, the 2010 is long on personality and character. Tar, licorice and iron are some of the dark, brooding notes that add muscle and an element of darkness that is undeniably appealing. Readers will need to give the 2010 at least a few years in bottle. The future sure looks bright here. Best of all, within the context of California Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2010 is a steal. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.”Wine Advocate 91+ points
