Proemio Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza 2015 Product #31306 (In Stock)
Proemio Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza 2015 Proemio Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza 2015

Here's a real winner in the "A Lot of Wine For The Money: Cab Division."  This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown at 2,300 feet elevation, where plenty of sunshine ripens the fruit to rich perfection and cool night air locks in freshness and vibrancy.  You'll love the big Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, tobacco, and chocolate.  In the mouth, it's ripe and densely packed with currant, cherry, black raspberry spice and chocolate flavors.  There's a nice herb and chocolate complexity here, but the fruit really holds center stage.  Big enough for steak or lamb, but easygoing enough to just drink at a party or on the deck, this is outstanding value in rich, drinkable, Cab.

Altosur Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza 2016 Product #31686 (In Stock)

Altosur - "High in the South" - wines are grown at 1,200 meters and higher elevations, giving them a fine purity and finesse to go with the bold Mendoza fruit. From estate grown fruit and with a few months barrel aging, this is loaded with juicy currant and blackberry fruit framed by touches of chocolate and crushed herb.  Plenty of heft - no one will call this "light" - but no heaviness in a tasty, drink now and with anything, Cabernet Sauvignon value.

Seven Falls Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2014 Product #31569 (In Stock)
Seven Falls Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2014 Seven Falls Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2014

This Wahluke Falls Cab sells for $23 at the winery and comfortably outperforms that price point.  The fruit is fully ripe and rich - but not over-ripe or pruney - with generous aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark raspberry and crushed herb.  A full 18 months in 53% new barrels (one-third American, two-thirds French oak) gives the wine a supple and plush mouthfeel and loads of cocoa, vanilla, and rich sweet spice notes.  The finish is remarkably long for a $20-$30 bottling, with layered currant, berry, cocoa and spice flavors flowing out over fine-grained tannins that melt away gently.  A great choice to pair up with roast beef, grilled lamb, or roasted vegetable dishes or to just pop and pour at a big celebration.  A lot of wine for the money!

Clos Robert Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Product #31113 (In Stock)
Clos Robert Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Clos Robert Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Bob Stack is best known as an importer of fine value wines from around the world (his Chapoutier Bila-Haut wines have been favorites for years).  He named his California negotiant venture Clos Robert to clearly indicate his preference for French-styled Cabs, and that’s what he delivers here.  And, in California's great 2013 vintage, this is the best release ever here and tastes far more expensive than it is.

It's full of lush raspberry, cassis, and black plum fruit with just the right accent of Bordeaux-like fresh herb.  Full-bodied and nicely ripe, the touches of oak spice and bitter chocolate add more complexity.  The chunky texture and soft "chew" on the finish mean this will handle a steak easily - but there's no reason not to drink this all by itself. Hands down, the best value we've seen in California over the past few years.

Washington' Horse Heaven Hills AVA turns out some of the most plush, rich, chocolaty Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the state.  Here the blend of Cabernet (75%), Merlot (23%) and Syrah picks up even more depth and richness from 10 months aging in American and French oak.  Feels plush and round on the palate with dark berry fruit, sweet spice and notes of chocolate emerging mid-palate and deepening on the rich, velvety, finish.  A great Cab to enjoy with a wide range of foods or just to sip on its own.

Fattoria Basciano I Pini Toscana 2013 Product #31623 (In Stock)
Fattoria Basciano I Pini Toscana 2013 Fattoria Basciano I Pini Toscana 2013

This warm-vintage super-Tuscan is flashy and rich - although just medium bodied - with lots of dark plum and black berry fruit plus cassis framed by spicy French oak.  There's good energy and juicy freshness to the rich fruit and a layer of spiced oak on the finely sculpted finish.  Delicious now with a little air and a steak or hold for years.

"Lovely aromas of violet, black currant and blackberry highlight this elegant, supple red. Vibrant and virtually seamless, though this should improve as the components integrate. Spice and mineral accents add depth and line the finish. Shows more finesse than power. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Best from 2018 through 2030."Wine Spectator 94 points

Mastrojanni San Pio Cabernet Sauvignon e Sangiovese Toscana 2012 Product #31242 (In Stock)
Mastrojanni San Pio Cabernet Sauvignon e Sangiovese Toscana 2012 Mastrojanni San Pio Cabernet Sauvignon e Sangiovese Toscana 2012

It’s illegal to put Cabernet Sauvignon in a wine labeled “Brunello,” but Bordeaux’s best red grape grows so well here that Mastrojanni just couldn’t resist planting some on the old San Pio estate.  Since 1997 that rich, ripe, Cabernet has been blended with 20% declassified Brunello to produce this delicious super-Tuscan blend.  The aromas and texture suggest richer Bordeaux or fresher Napa Cabernet but the bright cherry core and juicy, long, finish say “Italy” loud and clear.  A very fine value in small-production (less than 600 cases) super-Tuscan Cabernet.

"A blend of 20% Sangiovese and 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2012 San Pio is a hearty and approachable red wine that would taste great next to a succulent cut of beef. The wine ages in oak for 18 months and consequently delivers a full offering of aromas that spans from bright cherry fruit to exotic spice. There are some budding tertiary tones of cola and crushed mineral as well that add complexity. The finish is firm and long-lasting. Drink 2016-2026" Wine Advocate 91 points

Hedges Red Mountain Red 2012 Product #31281 (In Stock)
Hedges Red Mountain Red 2012 Hedges Red Mountain Red 2012

There aren't many turning out the kind of top quality, fine value, wines we see from the Hedges Family, and this beauty from their Red Mountain, Washington, estate may just be the finest of all.  It's 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, about 30% Merlot, and the rest Cab Fanc, Malbec, and Syrah aged just 10 months in American and French oak.  We love the richness and density here, the deep fruit, spicy oak, and subtle currant blossom note on the finish.

"Aromas of herb, cedar, mushroom, anise and cherry are reserved on this Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend. It's supple in feel, with well-balanced dark-fruit flavors and tart acidity that draws out the finish."Wine Enthusiast 91 points

Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley 2013 Product #31389 (In Stock)
Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley 2013 Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley 2013

A new wine from this traditional producer, one that breaks out their juicy, intense, Knights Valley fruit into a wine of its own. Stylish, with black cherry, currant, and red raspberry fruit, a fleshy middle, and nice length before finishing with classically grainy tannins. Grill a steak and enjoy!

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Knights Valley), all Knights Valley fruit in this vintage, is superb. Raspberry jam, spice, scorched earth, rose petal, cloves and new leather are some of the signatures. Knights Valley is often noted for Graves-like sense of gravel-infused minerality, naturally allied to a California expression of fruit. That is exactly what readers will find in the 2013."   Vinous (Galloni) 91 points

Zeitgeist Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2013 Product #30758 (In Stock)
Zeitgeist Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2013 Zeitgeist Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2013

The husband-and-wife team of Mark Porembski and Jennifer Williams crafted their 421 case 2013 Cabernet from four outstanding Napa Valley vineyards.  Anomaly in St. Helena gives richness, Farella in Coombsville freshness, Sleeping Lady in Yountville structure, and Moulds in the Oak Knoll hills grip and complexity.  This is the richest, most deeply fruited and velvety textured Zeitgeist Cabernet yet – it will fill up your mouth and coat your palate with Napa’s best! – but no loss of the balance and poise that keeps this fresh and fascinating glass after glass.  A brief decant is all it needs to delight right now, although feel free to lay this down for 15+ years if that’s your thing.

"The fresh sage, blackberry and sweet black tobacco aromas and flavors are compelling. Full body, yet shows form and tension. Fresh and delicious finish. Drink or hold."  James Suckling 94 points

"Good dark ruby. Captivating floral lift to the aromas of cassis, black cherry, licorice and graphite minerality, with complementary sweet oak nuances. Sweet, dense, supple and deep, with dark berry and spice flavors nicely framed by harmonious acidity and accented by piquant pepper and herb notes. Finishes juicy and long, with firm-edge tannins and lovely floral lift. Very well done."  Vinous (Tanzer) 92 points

"There are 421 cases of the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa from the same four sites used for the 2012. This wine is coiled tightly and displays higher tannin as well as higher extract and richness. It has an inky purple color and beautiful, dense blackberry and cassis flavors along with hints of licorice, forest floor and earth. Some background oak also makes an appearance."Wine Advocate 93+ points

Cakebread Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Product #30583 (In Stock)

Dennis Cakebread turns out a classic Napa Cabernet with fine fruit and a firm finish.

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has beautiful crème de cassis fruit, excellent structure on the palate’s backside and represents a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot. Aged primarily in French oak, the wine is youthful and young, with the coiled, restrained character of many 2013s, but the concentration is impressive and the purity is there. Beautiful black and blue fruits are obvious, and the wine structured, delineated and vibrant. Reasonably good value as well. Give it another 6-12 months bottle age, and drink it over the following 12-15 years."Wine Advocate 90+ points

"Sizable, tightly woven tannin wraps itself around black fruit with moderate acidity in this thick, tangy wine, which has 9% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot within the blend. Given less than two years in French oak, 60% of it new, it's an approachable, enjoyable wine that will also age. Drink now through 2021."Wine Enthusiast 91 points

Mayacamas Vineyards Cabernet Napa 2010 Product #30516 (In Stock)
Mayacamas Vineyards Cabernet Napa 2010 Mayacamas Vineyards Cabernet Napa 2010

A great release from this legendary Napa estate perched high atop Mount Veeder.  After 44 years, including the 1971’s appearance in the famous Judgement of Paris tasting in 1976, this is owner/winemaker Bob Travers’ final vintage as former Screaming Eagle winemaker Andy Erickson takes over.  If you’ve ever wondered what the greatest Napa Cabernets of the 1960s and 1970s tasted like young, the answer is “this.”  From dry-farmed vineyards at the top of Mount Veeder, picked early at high acidity and low sugar (just 13.25% abv), and aged 2 years in larger barrels, 1 year in barrique, and 1 year more in bottle, this is the essence of elegance.  Fun to taste now, but really wants 5 years more in cellar and will last a long, long, time.

"Graphite, smoke, licorice, game, savory herbs and a host of inky blue/blackish stone fruits make an appearance in the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon. Beautifully layered and intense, the 2010 offers a compelling interplay of finesse and power. Still, my sense is that the 2010 is holding back much of its potential. Readers need to be patient, but the 2010 is shaping up to be a gem."  Vinous (Galloni) 95+ points
