Bulgariana Cabernet Sauvignon Thracian Valley 2012 Product #30857 (In Stock)
Bulgariana Cabernet Sauvignon Thracian Valley 2012 Bulgariana Cabernet Sauvignon Thracian Valley 2012

This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the broad, warm, Thracian Plain in Bulgaria's south, just north of Greece and west of the Black Sea.  Ripe Cabernet fruit reaches the winery cool and receives just the right amount of time on the skins before finishing aging in tank.  Plenty of chocolaty richness here, with big black raspberry and currant fruit and accents of tobacco and cedar.  Michel Rolland consults here, and his touch with tannins shows in the smooth, velvety, finish.  A fantastic value you'll enjoy with anything roasted or grilled.

"Dark garnet to the eye, this wine has aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, coffee and freshly ground black pepper. Flavors of height-of-summer cherry, raspberry and baking spice persist on the palate through a finish that is awash in silky tannins."Wine Enthusiast 90 points

Proemio Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza 2015 Proemio Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza 2015

Here's a real winner in the "A Lot of Wine For The Money: Cab Division."  This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown at 2,300 feet elevation, where plenty of sunshine ripens the fruit to rich perfection and cool night air locks in freshness and vibrancy.  You'll love the big Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, tobacco, and chocolate.  In the mouth, it's ripe and densely packed with currant, cherry, black raspberry spice and chocolate flavors.  There's a nice herb and chocolate complexity here, but the fruit really holds center stage.  Big enough for steak or lamb, but easygoing enough to just drink at a party or on the deck, this is outstanding value in rich, drinkable, Cab.

Clos Robert Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Product #31113 (In Stock)
Clos Robert Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Clos Robert Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Bob Stack is best known as an importer of fine value wines from around the world (his Chapoutier Bila-Haut wines have been favorites for years).  He named his California negotiant venture Clos Robert to clearly indicate his preference for French-styled Cabs, and that’s what he delivers here.  And, in California's great 2013 vintage, this is the best release ever here and tastes far more expensive than it is.

It's full of lush raspberry, cassis, and black plum fruit with just the right accent of Bordeaux-like fresh herb.  Full-bodied and nicely ripe, the touches of oak spice and bitter chocolate add more complexity.  The chunky texture and soft "chew" on the finish mean this will handle a steak easily - but there's no reason not to drink this all by itself. Hands down, the best value we've seen in California over the past few years.

Seven Falls Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2013 Product #31537 (In Stock)
Seven Falls Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2013 Seven Falls Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2013

This Wahluke Falls Cab sells for $23 at the winery and comfortably outperforms that price point.  The fruit is fully ripe and rich - but not over-ripe or pruney - with generous aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark raspberry and crushed herb.  A full 18 months in 53% new barrels (one-third American, two-thirds French oak) gives the wine a supple and plush mouthfeel and loads of cocoa, vanilla, and rich sweet spice notes.  The finish is remarkably long for a $20-$30 bottling, with layered currant, berry, cocoa and spice flavors flowing out over fine-grained tannins that melt away gently.  A great choice to pair up with roast beef, grilled lamb, or roasted vegetable dishes or to just pop and pour at a big celebration.  A lot of wine for the money!

"Aromas of vanilla, herb, cocoa and barrel spice lead the nose of this attractive Cab. The well-balanced palate offers coffee and dark fruit flavors that transition seamlessly into a lingering finish."Wine Enthusiast 90 points

R8 Wine Co Cabernet Sauvignon California 2013 Product #31293 (In Stock)
R8 Wine Co Cabernet Sauvignon California 2013 R8 Wine Co Cabernet Sauvignon California 2013

R8 stands for Runway 8 at the Sonoma County airport, where this fine value winery is located (all the founders like to fly, too).  The 2013 R8 Cabernet is sourced from vineyards up and down California's North Coast and reflects the best of the great 2013 harvest:  plenty of ripe fruit but no excess alcohol (just 13.5%).  It serves up great aromas of black currant, black cherry, milk chocolate and spice.  It's fleshy and rich on the palate with more classic Cab currant fruit, a nice dose of chocolate and spice, and fine, food friendly, tannins.  A great party or casual dinner Cabernet that delivers a touch of extra class on the sneaky long finish.  Highly recommended!

Mastrojanni San Pio Cabernet Sauvignon e Sangiovese Toscana 2012 Product #31242 (In Stock)
Mastrojanni San Pio Cabernet Sauvignon e Sangiovese Toscana 2012 Mastrojanni San Pio Cabernet Sauvignon e Sangiovese Toscana 2012

It’s illegal to put Cabernet Sauvignon in a wine labeled “Brunello,” but Bordeaux’s best red grape grows so well here that Mastrojanni just couldn’t resist planting some on the old San Pio estate.  Since 1997 that rich, ripe, Cabernet has been blended with 20% declassified Brunello to produce this delicious super-Tuscan blend.  The aromas and texture suggest richer Bordeaux or fresher Napa Cabernet but the bright cherry core and juicy, long, finish say “Italy” loud and clear.  A very fine value in small-production (less than 600 cases) super-Tuscan Cabernet.

"A blend of 20% Sangiovese and 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2012 San Pio is a hearty and approachable red wine that would taste great next to a succulent cut of beef. The wine ages in oak for 18 months and consequently delivers a full offering of aromas that spans from bright cherry fruit to exotic spice. There are some budding tertiary tones of cola and crushed mineral as well that add complexity. The finish is firm and long-lasting. Drink 2016-2026" Wine Advocate 91 points

Hedges Red Mountain Red 2012 Hedges Red Mountain Red 2012

There aren't many turning out the kind of top quality, fine value, wines we see from the Hedges Family, and this beauty from their Red Mountain, Washington, estate may just be the finest of all.  It's 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, about 30% Merlot, and the rest Cab Fanc, Malbec, and Syrah aged just 10 months in American and French oak.  We love the richness and density here, the deep fruit, spicy oak, and subtle currant blossom note on the finish.

"Aromas of herb, cedar, mushroom, anise and cherry are reserved on this Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend. It's supple in feel, with well-balanced dark-fruit flavors and tart acidity that draws out the finish."Wine Enthusiast 91 points

Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley 2013 Product #31389 (In Stock)
Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley 2013 Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley 2013

A new wine from this traditional producer, one that breaks out their juicy, intense, Knights Valley fruit into a wine of its own. Stylish, with black cherry, currant, and red raspberry fruit, a fleshy middle, and nice length before finishing with classically grainy tannins. Grill a steak and enjoy!

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Knights Valley), all Knights Valley fruit in this vintage, is superb. Raspberry jam, spice, scorched earth, rose petal, cloves and new leather are some of the signatures. Knights Valley is often noted for Graves-like sense of gravel-infused minerality, naturally allied to a California expression of fruit. That is exactly what readers will find in the 2013."   Vinous (Galloni) 91 points

Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

From vines growing at 1,000 to 1,600 feet in altitude along well-drained terraces cut into the steep mountain side. It's a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 4% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Syrah fermented in tank and aged in new and used French oak.  You'll find plenty of Napa Cab and Mount Veeder character here - briary blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, crushed herb and tobacco, rich texture, plenty of body, and a finish that just won't quit.  The Mount Veeder tannins are there, for sure, but are silky and ripe and melt away easily. Drink through 2033.

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is dark, sumptuous and inviting, which is to say very much in the style of the year. Super-ripe dark fruit, pencil shavings, spices, leather, savory herbs and menthol power through to the huge finish, where a blast of intense fruit and tannin awaits. Dollops of Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah round out the blend."  Vinous (Galloni) 91 points

"One of the great values in Napa Valley, David Ramey's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous. The flavors are bold, intense and creamy, with silky tannins, voluptuous energy and tons of pure balance. The 2012 is delicious today, but also has enough depth to drink well for another decade-plus."  Vinous (Galloni) 92 points

Castello Dei Rampolla Sammarco 2011 Product #31127 (In Stock)
Castello Dei Rampolla Sammarco 2011 Castello Dei Rampolla Sammarco 2011

What's Italy's greatest Cabernet-based Supertuscan?  Over the past few years, one could make a case for Castello dei Rampolla's Sammarco and d'Alceo over more famous names like Sassicaia and Ornellia.  The 2011 Sammarco is once again among the very top-rated wines of the vintage.  An outstanding deal, if limited.

"Aromas of tar, chilis, raspberries and dark chocolate follow through to a full body with super velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Need three years to soften. Another superb blend of sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon from the organic estate in Panzano. Try in 2018."  James Suckling 95 points

"The 2011 Sammarco is so youthful it almost tastes like a barrel sample! Dark, rich and inviting, the 2011 possesses notable concentration and depth, with round yet powerful tannins and a surprising level of freshness for the year. A host of black cherry, graphite, smoke, plum and lavender notes accompany the powerful finish. It will be quite some time before the 2011 is ready to drink, but there is plenty to look forward to."  Vinous (Galloni) 95+ points

"The fullness and generosity here is absolutely amazing. The 2011 Sammarco is one of the protagonists of this vintage. In fact, I think Sammarco represents the hot 2011 growing season better than any other wine from the Chianti Classico area. The bend this year is 94% Sangiovese with 6% Merlot (the breakdown between the two grapes is usually 90-10) and the wine is fermented with ambient yeasts. The bouquet is beautifully redolent of dark berry fruit, soft spice, licorice and cola. The wine's overall elegance and length are both impressive. Drink 2015-2029"Wine Advocate 94+ points
