La Playa Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2013 Product #28796 (In Stock)
La Playa Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2013 La Playa Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2013

As soon as we tasted this fantastic value, we knew many of you would love it. From first sniff to last note of the finish, its a juicy, red currant and cherry Cabernet Sauvignon with a bit of spice, a hint of herb and just the right dusting of dark chocolate.  The round texture, generous flavors, and grape sweeet-tart and spiced cherry finish make it easy to pair with food and a great Tuesday supper and Saturday party red.  If you enjoyed past red values like Owl House or Chilensis, this could be your next big thing for not many bucks at all.

Estacion Cabernet Sauvignon Chile 2012 Product #29295 (In Stock)
Estacion Cabernet Sauvignon Chile 2012 Estacion Cabernet Sauvignon Chile 2012

Estacion is the even better value line from the solid Chilean value winery Estampa.  It's not easy taming Chilean Cabernet's sometimes aggressive herbal aromas/flavors without veering off into over-ripeness or needing high-toast oak to add a little depth.  So, this all tank, all Cabernet Sauvignon, is a wonderful surprise!  It opens with savory aromas of black cherry, currant, dried herb and cocoa.  The flavors pulse through on the palate where the texture is creamy but the cherry/currant fruit and mocha flavors stay clear and clean.  A nice squirt of tangy cherry acidity lends brightness to the currant and chocolate flavors that linger over fine, soft, tannins at the end.  Very tasty burger/cookout/cocktail Cab at a very, VERY, pleasant price!

Ridge Crest Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2013 Ridge Crest Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2013

A robust bottle of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cab Franc that punches way above it's price.  Dark black currant, cassis and spiced chocolate aromas lead to a rich, dense, mouthful of currant and blackberry fruit with accents of dark chocolate, crushed herb and fresh cracked pepper.  Plush and creamy in the middle before ripe tannins come up at the end to support the chocolate, berry, and spice flavors that linger on.  Outstanding value in Cabernet to serve with hearty food or just sip on its own.

Sur De Los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2010 Product #29211 (In Stock)
Sur De Los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2010 Sur De Los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2010

Wine Enthusiast had this pegged as a $38 wine, and certainly it has that level of effort and expense behind it.  The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon fruit came from some of the best sites in Mendoza, all grown without fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides.  The hand harvested fruit is sorted in the vineyard and then again on a modern sorting table in the winery before fermenting in tank with all natural yeast (no cultured yeast added).  The wine then rests and mellows for 15 months in small French oak barrels, including 30% second use and a whopping 70% new - a luxury that makes sense for a $30+ wine but is very rare in the under $20 space.  Then, perhaps the biggest luxury of all, it got another two years development in bottle to let the youthful Cabernet structure resolve and the rich, dark, fruit come to the fore.

“Layered berry and cassis aromas are a bit scratchy and gritty. This Cabernet feels saturated, pure and deep; flavors of blackberry, cassis, prune and chocolate are ripe and generous, while the finish is mildly herbal in flavor, with good length and build. Drink through 2018.” Wine Enthusiast 91 points

Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon Max Reserva 2012 Product #29265 (In Stock)

Fantastic value in ripe, supple, Cabernet with 10% Petit Verdot.

"This shows lots of rosemary, mint and blueberry character. It's full-bodied plus has silky tannins and a long finish. Reserved and delicious. Racy tannin structure."  James Suckling 90 points

"Rubbery, herbal initial aromas yield to black-fruit and earthy qualities as this breathes and unwinds. The palate has a healthy, forward mouthfeel and flavors of herbal berry and cassis. A dry, rooty-tasting finish is spicy in flavor and medium in length and complexity."Wine Enthusiast 89 points

Joseph Carr Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012 Product #28698 (In Stock)
Joseph Carr Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012 Joseph Carr Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012

We don't see this nearly often enough - a super-star winemaker who could easily fill his days (and pocketbook) doing just his own wines and consulting for a few high-end boutiques rolling up his sleeves, digging in, and making California wine you can afford to drink every day.  The winemaker is Aaron Pott - Food & Wine Magazine's Winemaker of the Year in 2012 - and his partner is former sommelier Joseph Carr.  Together, Aaron and Joseph are creating a line of fresh and food-friendly wines with plenty of Napa Character and style – but at an eye-opening value price.

You’ll get good sense of why everyone is so excited about Napa’s 2012 Cabernets here, starting with the sweet and savory aromas of cherry, currant, bitter chocolate, roasted meat, and crushed mint.  The flavors follow the nose at first, but with air gain breadth and creaminess, coating your palate with layers of crushed blackberry, cassis, roasted meat, and rich chocolate.  Delicious stuff, but it’s the elegant structure, perfect balance, and sophisticated tannins lying underneath the long finish that are really exciting in a wine at this price.  A “real deal, real steal” bottle of Napa Cabernet you should not miss!

Educated Guess Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 Product #27952 (In Stock)

The best vintage yet for this consistent winner in the "value Napa Cab" category.  It doesn't hurt that 95% of the fruit is from prime Rutherford and St. Helena vineyards or that the gutsy Cabernet gets a complexity boost from 6% Merlot and dashes of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot. You'll find loads of black fruit (blackberry, currant, and cherry) framed by notes of spice box, chocolate, and crushed mint.  It's soft and supple and mouthfilling and the fruit gushes right on through the spicy chocolate and herb finish.  There's a touch of something like Rutherford dust at the end, just enough to stand up to a steak but not so much to interfere with everyday sipping.

Another solid, satisfying, bottle of California Cabernet that would cost $10 more if it was from Napa! As Wine Advocate says, Paul Hobbs’s “Felino label has for a number of years been synonymous with value.”  Another fine vintage for this big, lush, Argentine Cabernet that’s jam-packed with black fruit, chocolate, spice, and tobacco aromas and flavors.  Lush and plush and nicely concentrated, this is great with a steak or just to sip.

Ca' Momi Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2012 Product #29122 (In Stock)
Ca' Momi Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2012 Ca' Momi Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2012

It's hard to find really good Cabernet Sauvignon for $20 or less, and darn near impossible to find Cab this good in Napa at that price.  But, these three Italian-American winemakers from Verona have managed to pull off something very special in 2012.  Rich, gutsy, and  powerful, this is big enough for roasts or steaks but fleshy and plump enough to just sip.  A winning value.

"The delicious, fruit-forward 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon has been produced by Ca’Momi. Its dark ruby/purple hue is accompanied by copious aromas of black currants and spice as well as richness and length that build incrementally on the palate. This tasty, high-class Cabernet Sauvignon can be enjoyed over the next decade or more."Wine Advocate 90 points

Here's a very classy California Cabernet that's comfortably under-priced - in fact, Wine Enthusiast has called it "One of the best values in Cabernet on the market."  From an old-vine vineyard not far from Geyersville in Alexander Valley and the great 2012 vintage, it pumps out generous aromas and flavors of black and red currant, crushed herb, dark chocolate and spice.  The ripe fruit is lifted by citrusy acidity and the finish sails on over firm, ripe, tannins.  Balanced, stylish, and delicious.

Twenty Rows Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012 Product #28433 (In Stock)
Twenty Rows Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012 Twenty Rows Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012

Twenty Rows was founded to bring you “Napa Valley Wines You Can Drink Every Day” and, while the whole line-up is impressive, the benchmark Napa Cab remains the standout.  A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon softened with 10% Merlot, one taste and you’ll see that Twenty Rows is a big step up from even very good $20 California Cabs - in fact, it competes nicely with many $30-$40 Napa reds.

The 2012 is the best we've tasted here, with a new level of richness and depth to the black currant/cherry fruit and accents of cocoa and roasted coffee.  Still dense and rich, but with more lift and earthy complexity and a nice dark chocolate note on the smooth finish.  Drinking well now and sure to improve over 3-4 years.

Bonanno Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012 Bonanno Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012

Not a lot of history here, with 2004 the Bonnano family's first vintage.  But, there's plenty of classic Napa Valley Cabernet character and class in the bottle.  A blend of Valley floor fruit from Rutherford, Oakville, St. Helena and Oak Knoll aged 20 months in (mostly used) French oak. Very Napa aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, blackberry, crushed herb and cedar with a rich texture and plush, soft, tannins.  A prickle of juicy acidity at the end makes this especially fine with richer meats, but you can certainly just sip it, too.  Nice value.

Chappellet Mountain Cuvee (Cabernet Blend) 2012 Product #28873 (In Stock)
Chappellet Mountain Cuvee (Cabernet Blend) 2012 Chappellet Mountain Cuvee (Cabernet Blend) 2012

Founded in 1967, Chappellet quickly established itself as one of Napa’s premier Cabernet estates and the very first to prove the quality of what is now often called Napa’s Grand Cru:  Pritchard Hill.  The Pritchard Hill Cabernets are still some of Napa’s best and can age for decades – the 1969 is legendary and reportedly still fresh and vibrant today.  But, they also usually need years of cellar time before showing well, and Donn and Molly Chappellet wanted fans to have something to drink tonight.

Mountain Cuvee was created to provide immediate satisfaction and delight, and the 2012 edition does that and more.  A blend of  Cabernet Sauvignon (39%) and Merlot (35%) with 12% Malbec and smaller helpings of Petite Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah, it ages in new and used French oak and comes out of the winery ready to enjoy.  The 2012 is a big, rich, wine with layers of currant, black cherry, blackberry, plum, cedar, smoke, and fresh herb aromas and flavors.  The texture is plush and velvety, with the ripe fruit largely hiding the ripe tannins that provide support for enjoying with food or time in cellar.  For all its size and depth, there’s nothing heavy or thick about this classic Napa Bordeaux blend, and it finishes long and fresh with just the right squirt of acidity.  A classy, well-made, Napa red you can enjoy right now at very attractive savings.

Henri Bourgeois Sancerre La Cote Des Monts Damnes 2012 Product #29309 (In Stock)
Henri Bourgeois Sancerre La Cote Des Monts Damnes 2012 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre La Cote Des Monts Damnes 2012

From the most famous Cru in Sancerre, this is brilliant Sauvignon Blanc.  Cut and crisp but with enough richness to avoid austerity, the layered flavors of citrus, pineapple, and crushed stone sail on and on and on.

"Henri Bourgeois’ 2012 Sancerre La Côte des Monts Damnés could be considered as perfume of the famous Coteau. It is less cumbersome than other Monts Damnés but offers all the flavors that makes this Chavignol Cru so special. It is a mixture of crushed white rocks with almost floral citrus flavors intertwined with the tropical flavor of a fully ripe and juicy pineapple and a refreshing mineral depth. All this gives this wine a precision that makes you sniffing above the glass for a while before you raise it to your mouth. This is a mouthful of rich, intense, elegant, fresh and well-balanced Sancerre that is full-bodied and juicy but by no means heavy, loud or saturating. The lingering salinity in combination with the ripe acidity is very appetizing and gives this complex wine a very good length. Henri Bourgois’ La Côte des Monts Damnés is definitely the wine to start with when you want to discover one of the most fascinating terroirs of the Sancerre appellation."Wine Advocate 92 points
