- Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012 Product #31221 (In Stock)
Just classic, with layers of rich fruit, plenty of spice, and a chewy finish.
"One of the great values in Napa Valley, David Ramey's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous. The flavors are bold, intense and creamy, with silky tannins, voluptuous energy and tons of pure balance. The 2012 is delicious today, but also has enough depth to drink well for another decade-plus." Vinous (Galloni) 92 points
"There are 2,800 cases of the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa. Composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a classic nose of licorice, underbrush, blackcurrants and toast. Medium to full-bodied with supple tannins and a lush, succulent, heady mouthfeel, it can be enjoyed over the next decade."Wine Advocate 91 points
"Well-crafted, offering a mix of dense earth, cedar and dark berry flavors, with crushed rock, graphite, espresso and cigar box nuances. Ends with chewy tannins. Will benefit from some cellaring. Drink now through 2028."Wine Spectator 92 points
- Castello Dei Rampolla Sammarco 2011 Product #31127 (In Stock)
What's Italy's greatest Cabernet-based Supertuscan? Over the past few years, one could make a case for Castello dei Rampolla's Sammarco and d'Alceo over more famous names like Sassicaia and Ornellia. The 2011 Sammarco is once again among the very top-rated wines of the vintage. An outstanding deal, if limited.
"Aromas of tar, chilis, raspberries and dark chocolate follow through to a full body with super velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Need three years to soften. Another superb blend of sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon from the organic estate in Panzano. Try in 2018." James Suckling 95 points
"The 2011 Sammarco is so youthful it almost tastes like a barrel sample! Dark, rich and inviting, the 2011 possesses notable concentration and depth, with round yet powerful tannins and a surprising level of freshness for the year. A host of black cherry, graphite, smoke, plum and lavender notes accompany the powerful finish. It will be quite some time before the 2011 is ready to drink, but there is plenty to look forward to." Vinous (Galloni) 95+ points
"The fullness and generosity here is absolutely amazing. The 2011 Sammarco is one of the protagonists of this vintage. In fact, I think Sammarco represents the hot 2011 growing season better than any other wine from the Chianti Classico area. The bend this year is 94% Sangiovese with 6% Merlot (the breakdown between the two grapes is usually 90-10) and the wine is fermented with ambient yeasts. The bouquet is beautifully redolent of dark berry fruit, soft spice, licorice and cola. The wine's overall elegance and length are both impressive. Drink 2015-2029"Wine Advocate 94+ points
- Zeitgeist Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2013 Product #30758 (In Stock)
The husband-and-wife team of Mark Porembski and Jennifer Williams crafted their 421 case 2013 Cabernet from four outstanding Napa Valley vineyards. Anomaly in St. Helena gives richness, Farella in Coombsville freshness, Sleeping Lady in Yountville structure, and Moulds in the Oak Knoll hills grip and complexity. This is the richest, most deeply fruited and velvety textured Zeitgeist Cabernet yet – it will fill up your mouth and coat your palate with Napa’s best! – but no loss of the balance and poise that keeps this fresh and fascinating glass after glass. A brief decant is all it needs to delight right now, although feel free to lay this down for 15+ years if that’s your thing.
"The fresh sage, blackberry and sweet black tobacco aromas and flavors are compelling. Full body, yet shows form and tension. Fresh and delicious finish. Drink or hold." James Suckling 94 points
"Good dark ruby. Captivating floral lift to the aromas of cassis, black cherry, licorice and graphite minerality, with complementary sweet oak nuances. Sweet, dense, supple and deep, with dark berry and spice flavors nicely framed by harmonious acidity and accented by piquant pepper and herb notes. Finishes juicy and long, with firm-edge tannins and lovely floral lift. Very well done." Vinous (Tanzer) 92 points
"There are 421 cases of the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa from the same four sites used for the 2012. This wine is coiled tightly and displays higher tannin as well as higher extract and richness. It has an inky purple color and beautiful, dense blackberry and cassis flavors along with hints of licorice, forest floor and earth. Some background oak also makes an appearance."Wine Advocate 93+ points
- Ghost Block Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 2013 Product #31149 (In Stock)
So delicious with a plush texture, oodles of sweet fruit, and a firm, long, finish.
"From proprietor Andy Hoxsey, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate displays classic pure cassis and an opaque purple color, in a reserved but exuberant, concentrated, full-bodied style with low acidity and ripe, well-integrated, lush tannins. Drink it over the next 12-15 years."Wine Advocate 91 points
- Zeitgeist Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2012 Product #29711 (In Stock)
The first time I tasted Zeitgeist Cabernet (the 2011 we offered last year), I noticed clear lines of connection to Aurajo’s Altegracia Cabernet from Calistoga and Spottswoode’s Cabernet from St. Helena. And, since co-winemaker Jennifer Williams worked harvest at Aurajo and was head winemaker at Spottswoode from 2006-2011, I suppose that’s not surprising. What is surprising is that you can cellar and drink a bottle of Napa Cabernet with this much lush fruit and suave, sophisticated, texture for under $75 compared to the $100-$200 those other wines command! Just 400 cases made.
"This is very intense and beautiful with spice, nutmeg and berry character. Full body, firm tannins and flavorful finish." James Suckling 92 points
"Zeitgeist Cellars’ 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa comes from four sources, ranging from the northern St. Helena AVA to Coombsville and Yountville. There are 401 cases of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. An elegant Napa Cab befitting its southern sources of fruit, it offers an almost Margaux-like floral fragrance, an interesting mix of red and black fruits, medium to full body, sweet tannin, and relatively low acidity. The wine is lush, heady and best drunk over the next 10-15 years."Wine Advocate 91 points
- Turnbull Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Estate 2013 Product #31076 (In Stock)
The real deal in Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon and a bargain to boot compared to 2013 Napa Cabs of similar quality and power. This is a big, rich, even chewy, wine right now, although there's so much intensity to the fruit that you might miss the mass of ripe tannin. Decant and serve with ribeye steak or lamb chops right now and be sure to hold some for as long as you can to enjoy the elegance and layered complexity to come.
"Turnbull's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville, their least expensive wine in the portfolio is the most forward and precocious of the cuvées and shows what great winemaking and vineyard sources the Turnbulls are dealing with. The color is opaque purple, the wine shows slightly less tannins than its counterparts, with gorgeously intense blueberry and blackberry fruit, cedar wood, forest floor and spice box. It's full-bodied, opulent, rich and, while still young with a good 10 years of upside, this wine will still be drinking great 20 years from now."Wine Advocate 95 points
