Le Paradou Grenache 2011 Product #28179 (In Stock)
Le Paradou Grenache 2011 Le Paradou Grenache 2011

A project of importer Eric Solomon and Ventoux's Frederic Chaudiere, this comes from 40-60 year-old Grenache growing in high-altitude vineyards named for a 400 year-old farmhouse.  Bursting with ripe, juicy, strawberry and cherry fruit with rich accents of damp earth and cracked black pepper.  It's full in texture and flavor, but with plenty of body but also a nice sappy freshness.  A bold bistro red to enjoy with or without food.

Bielsa Campo De Borja Garnacha 2011 Product #28229 (In Stock)
Bielsa Campo De Borja Garnacha 2011 Bielsa Campo De Borja Garnacha 2011

As Steve Tanzer said about the 2010, "This wine isn't shy about the fruit." From dry-farmed, old vines, grown in the scrubby vineyards of Campo de Borgia, this delivers a huge mouthful of intense Garnacha flavors:  black and red raspberry, black and Bing cherry, licorice, white pepper and more.  Plenty of ripeness, especially on the back where a kirsch-like flavor emerges, but it's also savory black pepper and fine lift and energy. Finishes dry and even a little floral with dark berry lingering on.  Fun to sip; great with any rustic food.  A steal.

Joseph Puig Montsant Red (Garnacha) 2012 Product #28371 (In Stock)
Joseph Puig Montsant Red (Garnacha) 2012 Joseph Puig Montsant Red (Garnacha) 2012

Joseph Puig's own winery, Vinedos de Ithaca, sits in nearby Priorat, so Montsant is a region he's known long and well.  Here he's selected perfectly ripe Garnatxa Negra and allowed to age for three months in large (400 liter) French oak barrels for a touch of complexity and spice.  The result is a wine with all the ripe, joyful, fruit of a fine Montsant - confit of red raspberry, strawberry, and black cherry - with accents of sweet spice and a touch of milk chocolate.  While the flavors say "Monstant," the texture is much more smooth, soft and supple without any rustic, hard, edges.  A fantastic cookout red for lamb or beef but with enough fruit and spice to sing with BBQ ribs, too!

Joseph Puig Montsant Tinto 2011 Product #26584 (In Stock)
Joseph Puig Montsant Tinto 2011 Joseph Puig Montsant Tinto 2011

Spanish wine industry veteran Joseph Puig has a new project, uncovering great wines made by friends throughout Spain and then offering them to us at very attractive prices.  This is a fine example, a perfectly textbook Monsant.  Ripe but minerally, focused and fresh, this opens with red berry fruit and slate before darker, riper, raspberry flavors come up from underneath.  Mouthwatering on the zesty finish, this a terrific blend of great ripeness with refreshing acids and minerality.  Hedonistic in a good way.

Department 66 (Dave Phinney) D66 Grenache 2010 Product #27855 (In Stock)
Department 66 (Dave Phinney) D66 Grenache 2010 Department 66 (Dave Phinney) D66 Grenache 2010

One of the reasons Dave chose to cash out of Orin Swift was to fund this project, a set of vineyards and new winery located in Maury, France, close to the Spanish border and nestled in the Pyrnes-Orientales. Dave now owns 235 acres of mostly 60+ year-old Grenache vines with a little Syrah and Carignan. With poor, rocky soils, these old vines struggle to produce low yields of super-ripe grapes – and Dave knows what to do with those!  Not a lot of finesse here, but plenty of powerful fruit and spice.

“A modern style, offering intense, powerful flavors of roasted plum, dark cherry and kirsch, with boysenberry. Asian spice, cream and dark chocolate accents that are very rich, leading to the long and muscular finish which exudes a concentrated spiciness. Drink now through 2020.”Wine Spectator 93 points

En Numeros Vermells Garnaxta Blanca 2012 Product #28133 (In Stock)
En Numeros Vermells Garnaxta Blanca 2012 En Numeros Vermells Garnaxta Blanca 2012

The 2012 ENV Garnaxta Blanca is, flat out, the best 100% Grenache Blanc I’ve ever tasted.  It’s wildly complex and chameleon-like, with the aromas and flavors changing constantly over the course of a meal.  At the core are ripe fruits like grilled pineapple, passion fruit, spicy pear, and tangy peach.  Fresh, exotic, floral notes show on the nose and flavors like thyme flower, dried honey, honeysuckle, tarragon, and fennel frond/anise weave in and out with each sip.  The texture is simply lovely, with plenty of creamy richness balanced by brisk citric acids and plenty of salty mineral accents.  The wild ride of constantly shifting flavors ends with a mouthwatering, lingering, almost savory finish that draws you back again and again.  A brilliant wine to enjoy with any dish dressed with a citrusy sauce or to sip with seafood tapas.

Mas Estela Just Dolc Negre (500ml) Product #25259 (In Stock)
Mas Estela Just Dolc Negre (500ml) Mas Estela Just Dolc Negre (500ml)

Here’s a wildly delicious sweet red from one of our favorite artisanal producers in Catalonia.  This is 100% old vine Black Garnacha, organically grown and harvested late for super ripeness.  After fermentation (which leaves plenty of sugar), the wine seeps on its skins for 60+ days and then ages for a year in glass demi-johns – outside in the sun, wind, and cold.  The result is a lush mouthful of crushed black raspberry fruit with plenty of coffee and cocoa accents and a finish that goes on forever.

Dom Cazes Rivesaltes Cuvee Aime Cazes 1976 Product #26298 (In Stock)
Dom Cazes Rivesaltes Cuvee Aime Cazes 1976 Dom Cazes Rivesaltes Cuvee Aime Cazes 1976

From the top sweet wine estate in the South of France, this is a "natural" sweet wine - a blend of 80% Grenache Blanc and 20% Grenache Rouge with fermentation stopped at the half-way point and then aged for 22 years in neutral oak.  Up to two-thirds of the wine is lost to evaporation during aging as the wine darkens in color and gains a nutty, tangy, character.  Aromas of orange rind, honey, figs, brown sugar and cinnamon lead to a rich, unctuous, palate of Grand Marnier, milk chocolate, figs and grilled nuts. A touch of oxidization and bright acids ad interest.  Pair with rich chocolate desserts.
