- Joseph Puig Terra Alta White (Garnatxa Blanca) 2014 Product #29993 (In Stock)
Joesph Puig's newest project features the work of friends and contacts devloped over a lifetime of making and selling wine and food. Here, Joseph works with a grower/winemaker in Terra Alta, the hilly, rocky, region in the southeastern corner of Cataluna. The wine is 100% white Grenache, fermented cool and aged without oak, and demonstrates why Priorat, Montsant and Terra Alta may be this often fat and flabby varietal's center of excellence.
This 2014 is simply delicious, with generous aromas and flavors of lime, pineapple, peach, tangerine and orange zest in a medium-bodied wine that spreads out to coat your palate with flavor and then snaps into focus on the juicy, minerally, finish. The fresh fruit is simply captivating, and while you'll certainly enjoy this with seafood and salads, you may need to open a second bottle before the cooking is done.
- En Numeros Vermells Garnaxta Blanca 2014 Product #29833 (In Stock)
1,115 bottles made, 576 imported. Before I tasted this, I would have said Silvia Puig makes some of the very best Garnatxa Blanca - white Grenache - in the world. After tasting her 2014, all I can say is that this is the best example I've ever tasted and I'm absolutely at a loss to imagine a better one. In part, the fresh, pure, 2014 vintage is at work here, but also Silvia's decision to ferment the wine in both 500 liter French oak and clay amphora before aging in steel. Here, more or less verbatim, is what I wrote when Jonas first poured it for me:
"I love this. More drive and precision and minerality than 2013 without any loss of fruit or generosity. Clarity. So fresh and clean and utterly seductive. Long and pure with pineapple, peach and honey and brilliant intensity. So much flavor and freshness. Minerality. This is so very, very, delicious."
