- Villa Medoro Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2010 Product #27877 (In Stock)
Over the past 10 years, Villa Medoro has established itself as, in Gambero Rosso’s words, “very much a certainty on the Abruzzo wine scene. It's weighty, well-crafted, wines are typical of the area but they are also increasingly stylish and well thought-out...and some of the best-value prices in Italy.”
For the past 5 vintages, their entry-level wine has either won or seriously contended for Italy’s top wine rating: Tre Biccheri or “Three Glasses” from Gambero Rosso magazine. Of the 25,000 wines evaluated by Gabero Rosso each year, only 1,500 make the cut as finalists for Tre Biccheri status. The finalists who don’t join the just 1.5% of tasted wines winning the top prize are marked in Gambero Rosso with two red glasses – Due Bicchiere Rosso. These are outstanding wines of great character, style, class and – in this case – superior value, too!
The 2011 Villa Medoro Montepulciano opens with aromas of sweet black cherry and fresh leather with floral accents. Juicy, supple, and sweetly fruited in the mouth, it pumps out plenty of luscious black cherry, black plum, lavender, fresh earth, violet and spice flavors. Turns sweet and tangy on the soft, supple, finish with mouthwatering acidity and a fine, wispy, tannin base that makes it just as happy on the table as in a party-goers sipping glass. As Wine Advocate (87 points) said, you’ll “have a hard time finding a better and more delicious wine for the money.”
- San Lorenzo Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2011 Product #27896 (In Stock)
The longtime favorite San Lorenzo Montepulciano is consistently ripe, round, and soft. Loads of ripe red berry fruit are complemented with hints of cocoa, licorice and coffee. This is one of the best wines in the store for pizza, but has enough stuffing and depth to work with more complex meals. And, it's pretty darn delicious just by itself. Buy by the case!
