A whole lot of Pinot Noir for the money here, marrying French elegance with New World ripeness.  Sweetly fruited with notes of baked cherry and dark raspberry plus added complexity from doses of earthy mineral and warm spice.  Spiced raspberry and black cherry flavors linger on the soft, supple, finish with just enough bite for shape and structure.  Fun stuff and great value!

Silver Ridge Pinot Noir California 2013 Product #30468 (In Stock)
Silver Ridge Pinot Noir California 2013 Silver Ridge Pinot Noir California 2013

The best thing about big harvests in great years like 2013 is how many top-notch "little" wines get made.  Here you'll find generous aromas of cherry, cranberry and mint leading to flavors of maraschino cherry, plum, and red berry with just a hint of spice and orange blossom. The light, fresh, texture, soft tannins, and juicy acids make this a delicious quaffer, although there's enough support for it to work with salmon or pork.  Outstanding value in balanced, easygoing, Pinot Noir.

Vista Hills Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2014 Product #30256 (In Stock)
Vista Hills Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2014 Vista Hills Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2014

You’re getting the whole high-end Willamette Valley Pinot Noir package here at a remarkably good price.  It’s 100% estate grown fruit from the Dundee Hills, hand harvested, double sorted, and aged in used French oak.  And, it’s from a great Willamette Valley vintage, one that could easily match 2008 and 2012 and possibly surpass them both.

Of course, what really matters is what you find in the glass, and you’ll find plenty to love here!  Give it 15 minutes of air to wake up, and you’ll be greeted with lovely aromas of ripe cherry, sweet black raspberry, fresh flowers, and a bit of damp earth.  The ripe red fruit flavors are sweet and fresh and complemented by notes of warm spice and a hint of smoke.  The texture is supremely silky and smooth, with good richness across the mid-palate before juicy cherry/berry acids and light, sweet, tannins provide lift and support.  Wonderfully pure and elegant but more than fruit-filled and punchy enough to sing with holiday meals.  Just 1,000 or so cases made, though, so it won’t last long.

Block Nine Caiden's Vyd Pinot Noir 2015 Block Nine Caiden's Vyd Pinot Noir 2015

This has been one of Robert Parker's favorite "value" Pinot Noirs over the past few years; as he said of the 2013, "An authentic tasting Pinot Noir that sells for a song...Aromas of sweet red and black cherry fruit intermixed with clove and baking spices are offered in a medium-bodied, earthy, soft, silky style." Another solid release in the fine 2015 vintage and still a great deal. Fun stuff.

Nice richness here to go with Oregon's classic elegance.  Pretty and delicious for salmon or even beef.

"All five vineyards contribute to this widely available blend. It's on the chunky side, with blocky black cherry and a frame of milk chocolate from aging 10 months in French oak. There's a dash of spice as it races through the finish."Wine Enthusiast 89 points

Grochau Cellars Pinot Noir Willamette 2012 Product #30007 (In Stock)
Grochau Cellars Pinot Noir Willamette 2012 Grochau Cellars Pinot Noir Willamette 2012

John Grochau sources fruit for this multi-vineyard Pinot Noir from organic and sustainably farmed vineyards up and down Willamette Valley.  In 2012 he made under 1,000 cases with about 30% whole cluster and around one-quarter new oak.

At first very spicy on the nose with notes of cinnamon, cardamom, and coriander weaving in and out of the black cherry and raspberry fruit, getting more sauve and integrated with a little air.  The texture is simply beautiful, with a pure, silky, mouthfeel, fine length, and long, supple, dusty tannins at the end.  The Bing cherry, raspberry and very ripe strawberry fruit flavors are nicely complicated by accents of sweet spice and fresh earth that linger nicely on the juicy, spicy, finish.  Delicious right now, better next year, and delicious through 2019 or so.

"Brilliant red. Red berries, fresh rose and smoky Indian spices on the pungent nose. Chewy and sharply focused, displaying good lift and spine to its ripe cherry and raspberry flavors, with a peppery element emerging with air. Turns sweeter on the finish, which features dusty tannins and a touch of cola."  Vinous (Reynolds) 90 points

Biggio Hamina Pinot Noir Chehalem Mt 2013 Product #30925 (In Stock)
Biggio Hamina Pinot Noir Chehalem Mt 2013 Biggio Hamina Pinot Noir Chehalem Mt 2013

How does a $40 Willamette Pinot that earned a fine 91 point rating in 2012 end up available too you from half-off?  It’s a long story, but the conclusion is simple:  this is the Oregon Pinot Noir buying opportunity of the year and one of the best Pinot deals we’ve brought you ever!  From a tiny, 2 acre, vineyard at 800 feet elevation in Oregon’s Chehalem Mountain region, this blends a range of Pinot clones all grown on volcanic Jory soils.

It's a great example of the elegant, pure, and very refreshing wines that represent the best of Oregon’s 2013 harvest.  You'll find a lovely perfume of crushed raspberry, fresh strawberry, and red pie cherry fruit with hints of lavender and spice.  Pure, vibrant, and silky on the palate, the ripe and tangy cherry/berry fruit takes center stage with subtle accents of spice and smoked stone.  The smoky notes are a hallmark of Willamette Valley's volcanic Jory soils and gain depth and intensity with time in the glass.  The perfumed fruit and smoke finish sales on over juicy acids and fine tannins.  Light (12.8% abv) and fresh enough to just enjoy on its own but with enough structure to sing with salmon and fish, mushrooms or white meats from the grill.

Fossil Point Pinot Noir Edna Valley 2014 Product #30943 (In Stock)
Fossil Point Pinot Noir Edna Valley 2014 Fossil Point Pinot Noir Edna Valley 2014

Fossil Point is named for the rugged headland in San Luis Obispo County which features sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and Central Coast. These cool coastal vineyards are perfect for Pinot Noir, allowing plenty of ripeness while retaining freshness and fine acidity.

The 2014 edition is simply superb, about as fine a California Pinot Noir value as we've seen in years.  Loads of sweet, ripe, red and black fruit on the nose and palate with a kick of smoke and sweet spice from 14 months in French oak.  A blood orange note comes out with air, lending freshness to match the classic California richness before the sweet spice and dark fruit come up on the long, pure, finish.  Really, really, good stuff.

Frecciarossa Pinot Nero Sillery (White Pinot Noir) 2015 Product #31202 (In Stock)
Frecciarossa Pinot Nero Sillery (White Pinot Noir) 2015 Frecciarossa Pinot Nero Sillery (White Pinot Noir) 2015

Sure, we admit it - this caught our attention because it's a rare white wine made from black-skinned Pinot Noir and "Pinot Nero Bianco" is fun to say.  And because it's from Oltrepo Pavese, a stunning slice of Lombardy south of Milan famous for rich wines in Roman times and known as Italy's top Pinot Noir region today.

It landed on our shelves because it's drop dead gorgeous!  Aromas and flavors of white peach, crushed strawberry, Rainer cherry and fresh herb are inviting and complex, and the rich, polished, texture and long finish are deeply satisfying.  A great wine for rich seafood dishes (think scallop risotto) or sophisticated sipping.  A bit of a rarity that may be gone too soon - grab it now while you can.

Bench Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2014 Product #30986 (In Stock)
Bench Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2014 Bench Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2014

This is one of those "whole lot of wine for the money" bottlings - specifically, a wine that plays in the $30+ Pinot range in terms of quality and character for a lot less.  Like all the best California Pinot Noirs, this comes from cool sites - mostly from Sagiacomo Amaral Ranch just north of San Pablo bay plus a little big of Russian River fruit for depth and structure.  Harvested completely ripe (at just 13.8% abv) and then allowed to rest 11 months in French oak (30% new) for roundness, smoothness, and a touch of spice.

The Russian River component - while small - shows up clearly in this fresh Pinot Noir's bright cherry and red berry fruit on the nose and palate.  A handful of crushed flower blossoms plus dashes of earthy sweet spice give even more complexity to the rich texture and long, lingering, finish.  A satisfying match for salmon, poultry or pork dishes and definitely delicious to just enjoy on its own.

St Innocent Pinot Noir Willamette Villages Cuvee 2014 Product #31271 (In Stock)
St Innocent Pinot Noir Willamette Villages Cuvee 2014 St Innocent Pinot Noir Willamette Villages Cuvee 2014

Always one of the greatest values in Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, the 2014 is the best in years, perhaps better than the Wine Spectator 92 point 2008.  In 2014 the vineyard sources read like a who’s who of great sites:  Zenith, Vitae Spring, Temperance Hill, Freedom Hill, Momtazi Vineyard and even the legendary “Grand Cru” Shea Vineyard.  A warm fermentation and gentle pump-overs extract richness and give the wine a velvet feel.  A year in mostly used oak rounds off the edges and adds just a touch of subtle spice.

The result is a sophisticated, velvety, and layered wine that puts many more expensive bottlings to shame!  You’ll find loads of fresh cherry, dark berry, ground spice, and subtle anise aromas and generous flavors of wild berries and cherries, spice and fresh flowers.  The wine envelops your palate with deeply earthy richness, but stays light and pure and fresh through a finished laced with just-picked fruit, spice, and fine tannins.  Beautiful right now through 2021 with everything from white meats to meaty fish (salmon, tuna) and rich lentil or bean dishes.  Delicious value!

Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2014 Product #31088 (In Stock)
Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2014 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2014

6 cases available.  Jim Maresh’s focus is on single vineyard Pinot Noir, so in most years, he sells off any barrels or lots that don’t make it into the final single vineyard cuvee.  In excellent years, though, that wine is just too good to part with, so he supplements it with fruit from neighbors and bottles this wine:  the Dundee Hills cuvee.  You’ll get a great introduction to the Arterberry Maresh style here, with fine concentration and excellent purity – in a wine that is, as Wine Advocate says, “probably the bargain of the vintage."

"The 2014 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills is a blend of Maresh, Juliard, Weber, Gehrts and Folie Hill vineyards. It has a fresh and vibrant bouquet with red cherry and wild strawberry fruit, touches of blood orange with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin - a mixture here of red and black fruit, meaty in style with a Pommard-like finish that lingers in the mouth. For $25, it's probably the bargain of the vintage."Wine Advocate 90 points

Patricia Green Pinot Noir Lia's Vineyard 2014 Product #30671 (In Stock)
Patricia Green Pinot Noir Lia's Vineyard 2014 Patricia Green Pinot Noir Lia's Vineyard 2014

Lia's straddles the volcanic and sedimentary divide in the Chehalem Mountains AVA, with volcanic soils at the top of the vineyard transitioning to marine sediments below.  Complex soils benefit from complexity in the vineyard, so Lia's is planted to Pommard in volcanic soils, Dijon 115 in sedimentary dirt, and a sliver of rarely seen Mariafeld Clone growing in the transition zone in the middle of the vineyard.  This is the first vintage Patty and Jim have had access to the Mariafeld Clone, and it took an outstanding wine  (92 points from Vinous in 2013) to a new level.

In 2013, this was one of the more tightly wound of Patty's wines, showing a peak of pleasure on release but tons of promise down the road.  In 2014, it's MUCH more generous and compelling right now but still has plenty of cellar life ahead.  As Patty's winery notes say, "The Mariafeld, Dijon 115 and Pommard lends a spicy note to the aromatics, a noticeable lift of red fruit and brightness in the mid-palate and a sturdier base of tannins. If there is a single vineyard Pinot Noir that we make that has more immediate appeal while still having down-the-road sort of chops this has to be it. This has forward, sweet dark fruit, quite a lot of texture and just enough finishing tannin to pull it all in at the end."
