"Vivid ruby. Complex aromas of red and dark berries, Indian spices and violet, with slow-building smokiness. Taut and focused on the palate, offering lively bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors that pick up weight with air. Juicy and nicely concentrated Cotes du Rhone with strong finishing punch and lingering spiciness."International Wine Cellar 90 points
"There are 3.5 million bottles of the 2009 Cotes du Rhone red, which represents an amazing value. A blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre, it comes primarily from the Plan de Dieu (Plain of God), which is situated northeast of Chateauneuf du Pape. This tank-aged, deep ruby/purple-colored, concentrated, fleshy, medium to full-bodied, supple offering reveals plenty of pepper, kirsch and black currant fruit intermixed with a notion of flowers. It is meant to be consumed during its first 2-3 years of life although I have tasted 10-year-old bottles that are still holding together."Wine Advocate 90 points
- Charles Thomas Cotes Du Rhone 2011 Product #26968 (In Stock)

Here's a terrific everyday red for parties, weeknight suppers, or just sipping all by itself. Organically grown Syrah (50%), Grenache (40%) and Mourvedre (10%) fermented and aged in tank give a round and easy-going wine you'll enjoy most anytime. The fruit is ripe and plummy with notes of red cherry and currant and just the right accents of dark chocolate and fresh earth. Enough acidity to keep things fresh, enough tannin to work with pretty much any food, and enough yumminess to keep you coming back for more!
- Ch De Paraza Minervois 2010 Product #26678 (In Stock)

Here's a robust blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre from the deep South French region of Minervois. In the excellent 2010 vintage, there's extra precision and clarity to the aromas and flavors of roasted cherries and raspberries with fine accents of resinous herbs and hot, smoky, stones. Fills up your mouth with fruit, earth, mineral, and tangy acidity and then leaves a wonderful, lingering, finish of herb and mineral and red fruit. Fantastic by itself and even better with grilled mushrooms, lamb, or pork.
- Dom Des Cedres Vin De Pays Du Gard Organic 2011 Product #26505 (In Stock)
-
-
A new discovery for us, this juicy red is a blend of Carignon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from the region of Gard, just south of Cotes du Rhone in Languedoc Rouissilon. The Roussel family pioneered organic farming here (they've been all organic since 1973!), and their care and passion certainly shows in the wine. Loads of raspberry and blueberry fruit with a meaty complexity and a touch of warm stone character. Ripe and fun to drink, this is a whole lot of wine for the money!
- Famille Perrin Luberon Blanc 2012 Product #27114 (In Stock)

-
A delightful blend of classic Southern Rhone white grapes - Bourboulenc , Grenache, Roussanne, and Ugni Blanc – from the family behind Ch Beaucastel. Fresh, clean, aromas of honeysuckle, apple and pineapple lead to a round, easy-going, mouthful of tropical fruit. Citrusy acidity keeps everything in balance and light and a pleasing bitter mineral note emerges on the end. Very tasty stuff!

From an estate first planted in the 19th century and then resurrected by young Isabelle & Laurent Causta in 1996, this beauty fully captures the potential of what should be Provence's top rose region. From vineyards in the heart of Minervois, this blend of Syrah and Cinsault with dashes of Carignan and Grenache is plenty gutsy but also crisp and fresh. Vivid strawberry, cranberry, and raspberry fruit with a clear whiff of fresh herb and lingering, juicy, dry, finish. Great wine for roast chicken, salads, or cold meats.
- Dom D'eole Cuvee Tradition Blanc 2008 Product #25138 (In Stock)

From one of the best estates in Provence, and one of the very first to go organic, this 60% Roussane, 30% Rolle, and 10% Grenache Blanc blend was fermented and aged in stainless steel. It shows fresh white peach, pear, passion fruit, pineapples aromas combined with a round and creamy structure of fresh fruit and herbal essence from the soil of Provence. Pairs excellently with grilled shrimp, sea bass sauteed with olive oil, fresh goat cheese.
- Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Blanc 2012 Product #27053 (In Stock)
-
-
Better than the 88 point 2011 or even the 90 point 2010, this blend of tank-raised Grenache Blanc, Macabeu, and Grenache Gris is complex and floral but still nicely structured and fresh. Generous aromas of peach, apricot, honeysuckle, and pink grapefruit burst from the glass. The flavors follow in a richly textured, but mouthwatering, wine that rides a beam of salty, chalky, mineral through a long, generous, finish. As the Advocate said of the fine 2010, "What a fine introduction to Roussillon whites and terrifically versatile accompaniment at table this will make over the next 2-3 years if not beyond!"
- Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2011 Product #27054 (In Stock)
-
-
Michel Chapoutier's genius shows through clearly in this wildly over-achieving red, a wine that has made the Wine Spectator Top 100 list in two of the past three vintages - and could well make it again with a fine 2011 that Robert Parker couldn't resist rating this beauty 90 points last Fall. A blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah from schist sites in rocky Roussillon, the 2011 is a muscular, concentrated, wine that retains just the right amount of lift and freshness. Deep aromas and flavors of red fruits - cherry, plum, and fresh raspberry tart - gain complexity from notes of smoky earth and bitter chocolate. Tangy blueberry/raspberry acidity adds freshness and makes this a great wine to pair with everything from pizza to most anything on the grill. Wine Advocate 90 points
- Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Rose 2012 Product #27056 (In Stock)
-
-
Northern Rhone master Michel Chapoutier's Roussillon estate - Bila-Haut - has been going from strength to strength the past few years, and this little beauty certainly argues that the positive trend will continue in 2012! It's a blend of Grenache and Cinsault grown specifically for rosé, crushed, macerated briefly, and then pressed off while still pink and made in stainless steel. A slightly more robust and jolly take on pink wine than you find in Provence, it delivers a big mouthful of candied watermelon and tangy cherry fruit with mouthwatering acidity and a sense of hot paving stone. A not too serious, very tasty, rosé to enjoy in the shade with veggies and grilled lamb dipped in lots of garlicky aioli.

This huge customer favorite is, once again, a classic rosé blend of Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault, attractively packaged in the traditional curvy Provencal rose bottle. Concentrated and intensely juicy, it's packed with dried berry, cherry, and red currant fruit with accents of glazed white peach and nectarine. Dry and crisp, it finishes with a big burst of creamy fruit flavors an just a touch of fresh herb and mineral. Give it a light chill and enjoy on its own or with salads or grilled poultry. Lovely stuff!
- Dom Philippe Plantevin Cotes Du Rhone Rouge 2010 Product #27135 (In Stock)

We’ve said it before, and it still applies here: If you don’t love this robust, poised, and oh-so-flavorful red, then perhaps Cotes du Rhone just isn’t for you. Philippe makes a few different tanks of this blend of Grenache, Carignon, Syrah, Counoise and Cinsault, and then importer Olivier Daubresse chooses the very best for us.
This year’s release shows off all the character and quality of the outstanding 2010 Rhone vintage. The aromas and flavors show off pure, zesty, notes of cassis, blackberry, and blueberry with hints of lavender, rosemary and violet. Very focused and compact in the midpalate, the flavors expand with more blue/black fruit, fresh herb, and cracked black pepper in the back, lingering over fine mineral and sweet tannin on the finish. This will age beautifully for 5+ years, but I don’t know you’d resist drinking it tonight. - Dom Philippe Plantevin Cotes Du Rhone Rose 2012 Product #27136 (In Stock)

Just in time for warmer weather, here’s the first release of Philippe’s pink wine we’ve ever managed to get our hands on. Unusually for a rosé from this part of the Rhone valley, it’s 90% Mourvedre (made famous by Domaine Tempier and other Bandol estates) and just 10% Grenache. Lovely dark pink in color, the generous aromas feature bright cherry, passion fruit, and wild herb scents. Bright and zesty in the mouth, the flavors include wild strawberry, more passion fruit, ripe citrus, fresh herb and just a touch of earthy Mourvedre character. Pure and clean throughout, it finishes with mouthwatering flavors of watermelon, berry, and a dash of pink grapefruit and mineral. A great solo sipper and even better with fresh salads, smoked salmon, or anything with plenty of savory herb and garlic.
- Dom Berthet-Rayne Cotes Du Rhone 2011 Product #26037 (In Stock)

Here's an absolutely delicious Cotes du Rhone from the tricky 2011 vintage. Classic aromas of red fruit, spice and garrigue (the resinous herbs growing in the Rhone) lead to a wide open, juicy, palate of ripe red raspberry and cherry fruit plus more spice. About half Grenache (for fruit) with the rest Syrah and Carignan (for structure). Just the right touch of tannin and mineral at the end makes this a great burger bottle!
- Ch Campagne Bacchus Matinas Ventoux 2010 Product #26797 (In Stock)
-
-
From a very old wine estate in Ventoux that's being revitalized by a new generation. After converting to organic farming, this is their first commercial vintage - and what a winner! Very perfumed and pure aromas lead to flavors of ripe raspberry and strawberry fruit and a dash of earth that are nicely intense but also graceful - almost Pinot-like. Stays fresh and easy on the bright finish where a note of black pepper emerges. Rhone wine you can see (and taste) all the way through - who knew?
- Dom La Blaque Pierrevert Rouge 2010 Product #26906 (In Stock)
-
-
Pierrevert perches in the foothills of the Alps in the northernmost corner of Provence. These are some of the highest vineyards in France, with altitudes reaching 1,000 meters, and the grapes here benefit from cool mountain nights and warm Provencal days. This is just about the only wine from the region you'll find in the USA - and we suspect that Thomas Calder picked it because it was among the best!
A blend of the usual Rhone suspects (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre), it opens with captivating aromas of smoky/meaty Syrah wrapped in red Grenachy fruit. In the mouth, focused and velvety in texture and full of black berries, roasted strawberry, and cinnamon spice flavors. Complex notes of smoked meat, blackberry and mineral linger over the bright, firm, finish. It's all a little like Northern Rhone Cornas, but with more red fruit and one less digit in the price tag. An amazing amount of wine for the money and fantastic at table with earthy, rich, foods. - Dom Du Dragon Grande Cuvee Rose Cotes De Provence 2012 Product #27058 (In Stock)
-
-
The best vintage ever for this long-time favorite? We think so! You'll find all the layered complexity you expect here as zesty aromas and flavors of strawberry, redcurrant, blood orange and chalky mineral chase across your palate. But, there's a touch more concentration and power from the small 2012 harvest and even more drive and cut on the spicy, dry, stony, finish. A classic Provencal rose, well-priced, and perfect for sipping solo or with salmon or Salade Niçoise.
- Dom Philippe Plantevin Cotes Du Rhone Blanc 2010 Product #25236 (In Stock)

-
Another fine vintage for the Southern Rhone and Philippe Plantevin. His 2010 CdR Blanc is a cool fermented blend of 40% Viognier, 30% Grenache Blanc, and 30% Marsanne delivers a wonderful interplay between richness and brightness. Give a swirl and watch it explode with aromas of peaches, Clementine, and honeysuckle. Then, take a sip and feel it fill your mouth with those flavors plus tangy apricot and refreshing crushed mint. A tad zingier than the rich 2009, but still wonderfully ripe and rich. If you’ve enjoyed Philippe’s 2006 Blanc, you know that this will age beautifully, gaining more herbal and dried honey notes even as the fruit keeps shining through.

Need a house wine? Look no further. A perfect blend of Rhone grapes grown just a stone's throw from Gigondas, this flavorful powerhouse delivers spice, fresh fruit and a whiplash of vinous energy. Aromas of licorice, garrige and fresh red berries; a mouthful of juicy, black-fruited power and baking spices. Very good. A blend of Grenache and Syrah with touches of Mourvedre and Cincault.
- Ch de Segries Lirac Cuvee Reservee 2010 Product #26967 (In Stock)

-
A classic Cotes du Rhone from the village of Lirac, this is a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and the balance Cinsault, Mourvedre and Carignan, all from 40+ year-old vines. In the outstanding 2010 vintage, this is even more gusty and robust than usual, with aromas of wild blueberry and dusky earth and rich flavors of black cherry, raspberry, lavender, spice, and black pepper. Long and firm on the finish, this will be great with grilled/roasted meats or earthy cheeses.
