I don’t know if oenologist Matthias Wimmer and estate owner Christian Raimont were inspired by Ch Beaucastel’s glorious 100% Roussanne Chateuaneuf Blanc VV or came on the idea of Cuvee Confidence on their own. But it was a really good idea. You need to try this.
It’s 100% organically grown Provençal Roussanne, fermented and aged in barrel. The aromas and flavors are a bit like a warm vintage Grand Cru white Burgundy – perhaps Batard? Criots? – with exotic notes of grilled pineapple and tropical fruits alongside spicy apple and pear notes framed by accents of toasted nut and ginger. As you swirl it around and let it open in the glass, you’ll find more and more going on, including some fascinating stone, salty caramel, and even the barest suggestion of green tea. The texture is amazing, at once ultra rich/mouthcoating and vibrant, pure, and precise. The flavors gather momentum and focus and drive through a finish that focuses to a pinpoint…then vanishes with an almost tactile pop. An extraordinary experience from an extraordinary wine that you can enjoy right now or cellar for a decade plus.

Very much in the style of a Hermitage Blanc, but at a much better price! It's a 50/50 blend of Roussanne (for richness) and Viognier (for fruit and floral aromatics), harvested and fermented and aged together in small neutral oak barrels. Layers of pear, peach, and apricot fruit are framed by notes of toasted nuts and crushed flowers and lifted by bright, green apple, acidity. Pair this with richer fish dishes or creamy cheeses.
