You don't often see Chianti Classico at this price...and even less often enjoy it. So we're especially pleased to have found this fresh and fruity beauty from the heart of Chianti's best region. This is pizza and pasta Chianti, full of ripe red cherry and raspberry fruit with bright acids and fine, easy-going, tannins. Not the most complex wine in the world, but fun to drink and a fine value.

Here is my actual tasting note from the first time I tried this: “This is just stupid delicious.” A few more details – this is 100% Sangiovese made in staeinless steel that opens with fresh and lovely aromas of violets, purple fruits and crushed cherries. In the mouth it’s juicy and ripe with loads of pretty fruit and a dark, earthy, streak. Bright and clean through the end with a delicious note of coffee and cocoa dust emerging at the end. Drink it with a little chill with pizza and pasta or warmer with anything off the grill. Like I said: Stupid delicious.
- Colsanto Ruris Umbria 2010 Product #26966 (In Stock)

Here's our single best-selling Italian wine of the past five years - a fantastic value that tastes like it costs twice as much as it does. The wine is mainly (70%) Sangiovese and delivers plenty of that variety's juicy black cherry fruit. But, the 20% Merlot in the blend rounds out the mid-palate and keeps the wine soft while the secret ingredient -- 10% Sagrantino -- adds spice and complexity uncommon in Umbrian wines. Sure, it goes well with pizza and robust pasta sauces, but there's enough going on to handle game and hard, salty, cheeses and a soft enough finish just to drink at a party. Fantastic value.

Always solid, this is the best vintage in a while for this Chianti producer located up near Florence. It's a round, black-fruited, wine loaded with soft black cherry and plum flavors and just the right touch of earthy spice. Soft and round from beginning to end, this is a great wine for burgers or just to sip on its own.
- Ghiaccio Forte Morellino Di Scansano Vigne Del Passero 2011 Product #26988 (In Stock)

Fortunately, this wine with a mouthful of a name delivers a mouthful of delight! Aromas of purple flowers, crushed black cherry, smoke and leather lead to big flavors of black cherry and plum with accents of spice and licorice. Juicy up front, broad in the middle, and crisp and energetic at the end. A terrific blend of Sangiovese (85%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) that’s both seductively rich and brightly refreshing. Not much you’re likely to put on your table that won’t play nicely with this terrific value.
"Intense aromas of blackberries, black cherries and chocolate. Its mouth is full of seductive red fruit, spice, firm tannin and high acidity, Sangiovese from Maremma at its best. Drink 3/5 years." Decanter Magazine 4 stars/93 points“This rich, fruity style is ripe with plum, black cherry and licorice flavors. Its tannins are present and dense, yet well-integrated. Moderate length. Best from 2013 through 2018.”Wine Spectator 88 points
- Ciacci Piccolomini Toscano Rosso 2010 Product #26759 (In Stock)

Doug's favorite Brunello producer turns out a lovely, everyday, Sangiovese too! All stainless steel here, giving the tangy cherry/berry fruit plenty of lift and energy. There's an earthy, loamy, note as well and a hint of violets emerges on the back. Juicy, with firm tannin, this is a great red for a huge range of foods and a very nice bargain to boot!
- Doga Della Clavule Morellino Di Scansano 2010 Product #26148 (In Stock)

From about as far south as you can go in Tuscany and within easy reach of Italy's western coast, this 100% Sangiovese marries warm Tuscan ripeness with a touch of the sea. Aromas and flavors of ripe black cherry and berries with just a touch of bitter chocolate and saline mineral swirl though this medium-bodied red. A fine pizza/pasta wine that will work well with salty olives or grilled seafood, too!
- Carpineta Fontalpino Chianti Colli Senesi 2011 Product #27138 (In Stock)
-
-
Remember the 2010 Fontalpino Chianti Classico, a lush, black-fruited, Sangiovese with lots and lots of coffee and spice notes? The 2011 Colli Senesi, from thin-soiled vineyards closer to Siena, is a brighter, more elegant, take on Chianti with a pretty perfume of cherry, raspberry and fresh flowers and a juicy, long, finish. Bright enough for pasta, but with enough depth to be a great match for pork chops rubbed with garlic and rosemary.
“A suave, smooth red, bursting with black cherry, raspberry and spice flavors. Well-balanced, showing drive on the finish. Decant now, or age a year. Drink now through 2016.”Wine Spectator 90 points

A terrific example of handcrafted Chianti from Paolo De Marchi. It’s a blend of 80% Sangiovese plus nearly 20% Canaiolo and just a dash of Syrah. Explosively fruity aromas and flavors don’t hide classic Chianti notes of fresh leather, violets and spice. Our single bottle price is already the lowest in the USA, making the case price a can’t miss deal!
“A beautiful Chianti Classico for current drinking. Full and fruity, with lots of strawberry character. Fruity finish. Delicious.” James Suckling 90 points“Good ruby-red. Lovely floral aromas of plum, redcurrant, sweet spices and violet. Sweet, lush and round, with a slightly high-toned quality that adds appeal to the red fruit flavors. Finishes broad and long, with ripe tannins.”International Wine Cellar 91 points

"The 2010 Rosso di Montalcino is drop-dead gorgeous. It boasts stunning textural finesse and elegance. Sweet red cherries, flowers, spices and licorice are some of the many nuances that take shape in the glass. In 2010 the Rosso is big, rich, powerful and strikingly beautiful. Here's a rock solid example of Vino Nobile that's just too easy to drink right now. Ripe fruit and earthy fresh leather aromas lead to bright and vibrant red fruit flavors. Delicious and lovely.

Way too long since this lovely Chianti value has been in the store. Young now, but delicious after a good decant.
"Bright red. Delicate aromas of redcurrant, blueberry and violet. Fresh and refined, with lovely purity and verve to the red cherry, redcurrant and floral flavors. Finishes with smooth tannins and great acid lift."International Wine Cellar 91 points
"I have been drinking the wines of Castello di Monsanto since about as long as I can remember, which is at least 20 years. The 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva is a very pretty, centered wine. Dark cherries, plums, spices, menthol, cedar, game and tobacco are some of the notes that emerge from the glass. The 2008 is an understated Riserva that impresses for its length, focus and balance. - Ciacci Piccolomini Rosso Di Montalcino 2010 Product #27031 (In Stock)
-
-
Always one of our favorite "baby Brunello", the 2010 Ciacci Rosso di Montalcino is the best we've seen in years. Loads of depth here and a velvety texture that's impossible to resist.
"The 2010 Rosso di Montalcino is plush, rich and totally inviting. It boasts stunning textural depth and richness for a Rosso. The warmth of these warm microclimates in the south of Montalcino comes through in spades. This is a hugely overachieving wine from Ciacci and proprietor Paolo Bianchini. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016."Wine Advocate 91 points
- Castello Dei Rampolla Chianti Classico 2010 Product #27042 (In Stock)

This is simply the best young Chianti Classico I’ve ever tasted, a wine of astonishing richness and depth, layered and complex, bursting with fruit, and long and refreshing on the finish. The 2009 was certainly lovely and well worthy of its 92+ point Wine Advocate rating, but the 2010 is better still – the best non-riserva Chianti I’ve ever had.
Part of the secret here is undoubtedly the 2010 vintage. As Wine Advocate reported, “In Chianti Classico, 2010 is shaping up to be a great vintage, perhaps one of the greatest. It was a cold year, with an irregular flowering that lowered yields, and a very late harvest. The wines possess stunning depth, well-delineated aromatics and massive structure. If I had to draw comparisons with recent years, I would say the 2010s have the aromatics of 2004, the fruit density of 2007 and the structure of 2006. Sounds pretty appealing, doesn’t it?”
The 2010 Rampolla Chianti Classico is, as Wine Advocate said about the 2009, “insanely beautiful.” Sweet black cherry, locorice, black tea and floral aromas burst from the glass. In the mouth, it's supple, silky and seductive with layers of flavors effortlessly coat your mouth - cherries, blackberries, mint, fresh leather and a touch of porcini all play a role. At once deeply rich and fantastically pure, it finishes with classic Chianti acidity and fine tannin. Stunning now, built to improve for a decade, this is delicious value. - Carpineta Fontalpino Chianti Classico 2009 Product #25787 (In Stock)

Just a terrific bottle of Chianti that’s ready to enjoy now with rich foods – think Tuscan steak! – or to improve for 8+ years in the cellar. A dark fruited, rich, wine with loads of ripe, sweet, fruit on the long finish. A gem.
“Wonderful aromas of blueberries and dark chocolate follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and a fruity finish. Solid and structured Chianti Classico. One of my favorite producers in the area. Better in 2012.” James Suckling 91 points
“An expression of darker fruit, this red remains fresh and defined by violet, black cherry and spice notes. Polished, but still marked by dense, edgy tannins, matched by sweet fruit on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2020. 600 cases imported.”Wine Spectator 92 points
- Dei Vino Nobile Montepulicano 2009 Product #26405 (In Stock)

"The 2009 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano presents gorgeous balance and refinement from the very first taste. Firm tannins provide the backdrop as the 2009 Vino Nobile opens up in the glass. Sweet dark cherries, menthol and licorice are woven together nicely in this firm, harmonious Vino Nobile. This is a great showing from Caterina Dei. The 2009 is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo, aged in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2019."Wine Advocate 91 points
- Valdicava Rosso Di Montalcino 2008 Product #24127 (In Stock)
-
-
Valdicava has a nice reputation for making a Rosso that sits in a category all its own. Though 2008 was a riper vintage in the Tuscan hillsides, the Valdicava Rosso still shows poise and elegance with flashes of fruit and vigor. The nose has aromas of peppered red plum and dusty tobacco. The palate is robust with flavors of nice balsamic and dark cherries. The tannins are pronounced but elegant. While the wine could age for another 5-7 years, the riper 2008 vintage has afforded buyers a pretty "baby" Brunello to be enjoyed now!

#9 Wine Spectator Wine of the Year!
The fourth vintage of Ciacci's "normale" is once again a vibrant, juicy, Brunello from the estate's younger vines. It's a pretty wine at first with generous aromas and bright red fruits, but there's also good tannic support for aging in cellar. Give this a year and then decant to serve with rich meats or let it soften on its own in cellar.
“Brother and sister Paolo and Lucia Bianchini are the team behind this impressive Brunello. The family’s vines are located in the prized southwest-facing vineyards of the region, which at their highest point reach an elevation of nearly 1,200 feet. A traditional style, the wine was fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats and then aged two years in Slavonian oak. Ciacci also makes Brunello from the Pianrosso vineyard, including a riserva in top years, but this label represents the best value.
Though dense and rich, this red is also sleekly proportioned and harmonious. The cherry, raspberry, licorice, earth and tobacco flavors meld with the solid structure. Offers fine length and complexity that increases with aeration. Best from 2014 through 2025."Wine Spectator 94 points

Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2012 (#81)
Sweet and sexy with great purity. Very tempting tonight, best in 10 years.
"The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino bursts from the glass with freshly cut flowers, spices, rose petals and sweet red berries. The 2007 impresses for its poise and fabulous overall harmony, especially in the way expressive aromatics and fruit are woven together. I very much admire the wine’s feminine, gracious personality. This is a terrific showing from Collosorbo. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."Wine Advocate 94 points
"This rich red shows plenty of bass notes, in the form of sweet plum and wood smoke, as the wine plays out across the palate. Balanced and juicy, with a moderately firm structure. Fine accents of spice, smoke and tea mark the finish. Best from 2014 through 2028."Wine Spectator 93 points
- Voliero Brunello Di Montalcino 2007 Product #26818 (In Stock)
-
-
Andrea Cortonesi, most famous for making the powerhouse Ucceliera Brunello, delivers a beautiful, almost Burgundian, take on Brunello that gains weight and power with air. Stunning stuff, but very limited.
"Good full deep, bright red. Scented, soil-driven aromas of red cherry, redcurrant, dried flowers, leather, minerals and tobacco. Suave and sweet on entry, then urgent and penetrating in the middle, with serious acidity giving the wine a distinct firmness and superb inner-mouth energy in its youth. This sappy, ageworthy Brunello finishes with palate-staining floral perfume. I love this style."International Wine Cellar 94 points
"Andrea Cortonesi has turned in a fabulous repeat performance with his Voliero wines. These vineyards on the northern side of Montalcino give Cortonesi the raw materials to craft wines that show the elegant, refined side of Sangiovese. They are a wonderful contrast to the richer, more muscular wines Cortonesi makes at Uccelliera. The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is striking in this vintage, just as it was in 2006. Freshly cut flowers, spices, mint, licorice and tobacco are some of the many notes that jump from the glass in this highly expressive, engaging Brunello. The 2007 shows the freshness and energy of this hillside site on the Montosoli hill with the generosity of the vintage, a very appealing combination in my book. The finish is pure silk and finesse. Once again, the Voliero Brunello is one of the most exciting and complete wines of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027."Wine Advocate 95 points
