Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2014 Product #29625 (In Stock)
Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2014 Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2014

The 2014 edition of this customer and staff favorite Sauvignon Blanc starts with aromas of just-squeezed lemon and fresh cut grass. On the palate, there’s a nice, juicy hit of riper Meyer lemon that comes in, and the whole thing finishes mouthwateringly clean. While many white Bordeaux are blended with Semillon and Muscadelle to add waxy weight or fruitiness, Ch La Roche St Jean is 100% Sauvignon Blanc. There’s no oak to hide all that tangy fruit, and it’s a very reasonable 12.5% alcohol. If you’ve shied away from New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc because of its over-the-top grapefruitiness or overwhelming, pungent passionfruit flavors, this is the perfect SB for you.

Bulgariana Sauvignon Blanc Thracian Valley 2015 Product #31143 (In Stock)
Bulgariana Sauvignon Blanc Thracian Valley 2015 Bulgariana Sauvignon Blanc Thracian Valley 2015

Like Cabernet Sauvignon, the white Bordeaux grape Sauvignon Blanc thrives on the warm, sunny, Thracian plain in southern Bulgaria.  The climate here is a bit like what you’ll find in some parts of California, and this fruit-filled Sauvignon Blanc bares more than a passing resemblance to a good Russian River example.

The aromas are generous and inviting, with wide open notes of peach, melon, and citrus blossom.  It’s round and plump on the palate, with juicy pineapple, tropical fruit, and lemon/lime citrus flavors with just a hint of something grassy or herbal.  There’s enough acidity to give the wine shape and help it finish clean and dry in a soft, mellow, style.  A fun back deck or poolside sipper with an easygoing personality and a fine match for shrimp, summer salads, and more.

"Best Buy! This delightful wine hints exotic fruits like pineapple, mango and kumquat. Stainless steel aging gives this wine gentle acidity on the palate and a very satisfying aftertaste."Wine Enthusiast 90 points

Sea Pearl Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2015 Sea Pearl Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2015

The New Zealand abalone pictured on the label are complexly, even wildly, colored and produce some of the world's most treasured pearls.  The name here nods to that and introduces an honest, fresh, Sauvignon Blanc with plenty of melon, fig, citrus and grassy herb aromas and flavors.  Medium bodied and very fresh with pretty accents of peach and melon on the vibrant, lightly herbal, finish.  Fine value.

This tasty value comes from the folks at Lawson's Dry Hills winery and it's a right down the middle Marlborough gem.  Loads of white grapefruit and fresh cut grass aromas lead to bracing, zesty, flavors of sweet white grapefruit juicy and herb.  Finishes dry, crisp, and clean, making this a fun, refreshing, Sauvvy value!

Alain De La Treille Sauvignon Blanc Touraine 2015 Product #31003 (In Stock)
Alain De La Treille Sauvignon Blanc Touraine 2015 Alain De La Treille Sauvignon Blanc Touraine 2015

Touraine marks the dividing line between the Loire Valley's Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc regions (Chinon, Vouvray, etc.) to the west and the greatest Sauvignon vineyards (Sancerre, Pouilly Fume) to the east. Prone to harshness and too much green herb, really fine Touraine Sauvignons hint at Sancerre minerality with a big more ripe, rich, fruit.  This is a very good one, fleshy and round with peach, green melon, and lemon fruit and just a bare hint of fresh cut grass. Great with seafood, salads, and reading a book by the pool.

Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2015 Product #30816 (In Stock)
Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2015 Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2015

Basically a “baby Sancerre”, this exciting young Sauvignon Blanc is grown on the same chalky slate soils you’ll find across Sancerre from 10-40 year-old vines, fermented in stainless steel and allowed to rest 3 months on the fine lees.  The vineyard is located just outside the legal boundary of Sancerre, but the flavors make you feel right in the middle!

Generous, fresh, aromas of fresh flowers, just cut grass, white grapefruit, and a hint of wet stones burst from the glass.  Then you’ll find a tad more richness and zest to the crisp citrus and green apple fruit, tangy gooseberry, and fresh grass.  As the refreshing acidity wells up to make your mouth water, a bit of Sancerre’s trademark “gun flint” character shows underneath the juicy bright fruit.  There’s a wonderful rich/brisk, sweet/sour contrast in this wine that will delight and fascinate with every sip.  Served cold, it’s thirst quenching and refreshing.  Let it warm up a touch and it’s layered, complex, and a fantastic match for seafood, fresh vegetables, and – of course – goat cheese.

Dom De La Chezatte Sancerre 2015 Product #30972 (In Stock)
Dom De La Chezatte Sancerre 2015 Dom De La Chezatte Sancerre 2015

Owned by the Maudry family for four generations, Domaine de la Chezatte’s Sancerre is all about elegant refreshment. Fresh white flowers, freshly squeezed citrus and zest, fresh cut grass, and juicy green grapes all jump from the glass to your nose as soon as you take a sniff. Scents of lemon zest and a little chalky minerality make you think of the lemon twist on one of those sophisticated Italian spritzer cocktails - fresh and lemony without being overly tart. There’s also a hint of ripe, juicy grapefruit.

On the palate, 2015’s ripeness provides pleasing weight, and makes for acidity that’s still mouthwatering, but not as laser-like as Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire sometimes is. This transforms a wine that often is something that you’d only want with food, sort of as the lemon squeeze on a beautiful piece of fish, into something you would happily sip as an aperitif. Let’s just say that it’s a little bit more...fun than Sancerre usually is. As it warms a bit in the glass, it puts on even more weight, with a lovely golden apple aroma appearing, while still maintaining its freshness. A wonderful value for seafood and elegant summer salads, or just for a bit of refreshment out on the back deck or at a party.

Dom De Villargeau Coteaux Du Giennois 2015 Product #30763 (In Stock)
Dom De Villargeau Coteaux Du Giennois 2015 Dom De Villargeau Coteaux Du Giennois 2015

The Coteaux de  Giennois appellation is small - under 200 acres in total - and tends to get lost in the shadow of nearby Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume.  Owned by brothers Fernand and Jean-Francois Thibaut, Villargeau is the top producer in the region and crafts crackling, fresh, Sauvignon Blanc from vines growing on fractured slate and gravel.

You'll find big aromas of mixed citrus - grapefruit, lemon, lime - with a hint of cut grass and flinty stones in the background.  On the palate it's clear, juicy, and fresh, with green grape and white grapefruit flavors getting complexity from the gunflint and smoke notes that made Pouilly-Fume so famous.  Finishes crisp and clean and pulls you back for another sip.

Dog Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015 Product #30582 (In Stock)
Dog Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015 Dog Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Another great vintage for this benchmark New Zealand winery founded by Cloudy Bay alums.

"Sexy musky aromas of white peach, ginger and quinine. Ripe, broad stone fruit and spice flavors display more body than most Marlborough Sauvignons while maintaining a captivating piquancy. Really dusts the palate and carries on the aftertaste. Delivers an impressive combination of sweet fruit and salty finishing grip. There's nothing tart or austere about this compelling Sauvignon Blanc. (Incidentally, the 2008 vintage of this wine is à point today: pliant and plush, with concentrated flavors of candied citrus fruits, peach and gingery spices nicely framed by a firm spine of alcohol and acidity. The 2005 version is more peppery and herbaceous, less about fruit but still full of life.)"  Vinous (Tanzer) 92 points

"The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc has a fragrant nose of elderflower, lavender, lemongrass and fresh herbs with hints of struck match and ground stones. Medium-bodied with a lovely satiny texture and great intensity, it has a lively acid backbone and long savory finish."Wine Advocate 90 points

Dom Des Berthiers (J.C. Dagueneau) Pouilly Fumé 2013 Product #30608 (In Stock)
Dom Des Berthiers (J.C. Dagueneau) Pouilly Fumé 2013 Dom Des Berthiers (J.C. Dagueneau) Pouilly Fumé 2013

The classic gunflint aromas and flavors here come all from the soil in this stainless steel fermented and aged beauty from 20-30 year-old Sauvignon Blanc vines planted by Jean Claude Dagueuneu.  The definite flintlock notes are wrapped in fresh citrus fruit – lime skin, lemon, tangerine and pink grapefruit – and swirl in a one that is at once round and zesty.  There’s plenty of mouthwatering acidity here, but also a buffering richness that makes the wine easy to drink.  Fresh and lithe, it finishes with lots of fresh citrus and mineral crunch.  Great with seafood of all kinds and fresh chevre but also with Thai food or just all by itself.

"The original Dagueneau domaine, Berthiers has produced a rich, warm wine, full in style, layering its crisp lemon acidity with ripe pear flavors. As often with Pouilly Fumé, it's a wine that needs aging, so drink from 2014."Wine Enthusiast 90 points
