Varner Zinfandel Foxglove 2012 Product #28076 (In Stock)
Varner Zinfandel Foxglove 2012 Varner Zinfandel Foxglove 2012

Made from all Paso Robles Fruit, the 2012 Varner Foxglove Zin is unusually classy, smooth, and mellow for this AVA.  Big aromas of briary fruit and spice lead to rich flavors of raspberry, red plum, dried flowers, and cracked black pepper.  It's juicy enough to stay fresh through a second (or third!) glass but big and structured enough to handle hearty food. A very fine value.

Green & Red Zinfandel Chiles Mill 2011 Product #27577 (In Stock)
Green & Red Zinfandel Chiles Mill 2011 Green & Red Zinfandel Chiles Mill 2011

Yet another fine vintage for this high-altitude Zin from iron red soils flecked with green malachite.  A bit higher toned than the 91 point 2010, there's still plenty of dark cherry and brambly fruit here with accents of toasty vanilla and spice.  Zingy acidity keeps things fresh and notes of cracked pepper and underbrush add complexity.  A winner!

Hawley Zinfandel Late Harvest 2012 Product #27804 (In Stock)
Hawley Zinfandel Late Harvest 2012 Hawley Zinfandel Late Harvest 2012

This got an immediate "yum!" reaction from the whole staff when we tasted it.  Hawley harvests these Zinfandel grapes at a ripe 32 brix, and about 7% residual sugar is left in the wine.  This produces a sweet, delicious Zin that somehow still has enough acidity and fresh fruit flavor to stay light on its feet.  Perfect for chocolate desserts or just by itself.  A delight!

Ch Montelena Zinfandel Estate 2010 Ch Montelena Zinfandel Estate 2010

From the winery famous for California's breakthrough Chardonnay and classic Cab, this is an elegant, almost European, take on Zinfandel.  Aromas of bright plum, boysenberry,  and dried fruit with accents of spice and coconut.  Firm acid and ripe tannins frame blackberry and red-berry fruit with a meaty hint of hoisin and soy.  Notes of walnut and smoked meat hide under the richly fruity, long, finish.

Tres Sabores Zinfandel Rutherford Estate 2011 Tres Sabores Zinfandel Rutherford Estate 2011

Just 500 cases made of this luscious Zinfandel grown organically in the heart of Napa's Rutherford Bench.  And while Rutherford is famous for Cab, it turns out Zin does pretty well here too!

Big aromas of black and red berries with accents of cracked pepper and spice.  Ripe and zesty in the mouth with more "Zinny" fruit, black and white pepper, and a touch of bramble wood.  Classy oak aromas and flavors lend more complexity in this big, but nicely balanced, Zinfandel for solo sipping or richly flavored foods.

Canard Zinfandel Estate Calistoga 2010 Product #27499 (In Stock)
Canard Zinfandel Estate Calistoga 2010 Canard Zinfandel Estate Calistoga 2010

A little bit of American history in a bottle here. This ultra-small production Zinfandel (just 150 cases made) comes from some of the oldest producing grape vines in the USA, including plots of 80, 100, and 125 years-old.  The gnarly, bush-trained, vines have been dry farmed (no added water) for years and have now extended their roots 30-60 feet down into the hard Calistoga soils, giving them the water they need to survive any growing season and access to amazing amounts of minerally depth.

Even though 2010 was challenging vintage for Napa Zinfandel, these ancient vines managed to ripen their tiny crop of berries perfectly.  Aromas of rich ripe red berries, rose petal, and exotic spices burst from the glass and notes of dark, brambly, cherry, juicy blackberry, currant, and dark bitter chocolate gush across the palate.  The texture is lush and very full-bodied, but the alcohol is perfectly integrated and fine natural acidity adds freshness and length to the fruit, chocolate, and spice flavors on the generous finish.  Anyone who enjoyed Joel Peterson's Ravenswood Zinfandels from the 1980s will love this, especially with peppery steak, sausages, or smoked turkey.
