Ch De Villeneuve Saumur Champigny VV 2002 Product #21955 (In Stock)
Ch De Villeneuve Saumur Champigny VV 2002 Ch De Villeneuve Saumur Champigny VV 2002

Sure, most Loire Valley Cabernet Franc is built for early consumption with bistro food, but Jean-Pierre Chevallier old vines cuvee from 2002 has taken on even more complexity and charm with age. Savory aromas of roasted pepper, black olive, grilled meat and aged tobacco lead to a mellow mouthful of meaty black fruit, forest floor, and more dried tobacco.  Earthy and rich in the midpalate before bright acids and juicy roasted bell pepper notes refresh at the end.  Complex, layered, fascinating.

Dom Larue Blagny 1er Cru Sous Le Puits 2002 Product #28214 (In Stock)
Dom Larue Blagny 1er Cru Sous Le Puits 2002 Dom Larue Blagny 1er Cru Sous Le Puits 2002

Yes, I know it’s “just” Blagny.  But, if you taste this blind you’ll be more likely to name it a top premier cru from the best sites in Beaune after at least wondering if it could be a top Morey St. Denis!  Dark red fruit, fresh turned earth, a touch of coffee, and plenty of earthy spice aromas well up from the glass.  In the mouth, it’s luxuriously textured, a mouthful of crushed, red fruited, velvet with accents of spice, dark flowers, and more.  A line of iron minerality runs through the core with still firm, if nicely soften, tannins giving support and fruit and earth and floral perfume flavors pumping out on the very pretty finish.  Great showing here to drink now and for another 5+ years.

Dom Larue St Aubin 1er Les Combes 2002 Product #16628 (In Stock)
Dom Larue St Aubin 1er Les Combes 2002 Dom Larue St Aubin 1er Les Combes 2002

Olvier tells me that Didier wasn’t crazy about his 2002 Les Combes at first, fearing that he’d harvested too late and lost some freshness.  But a decade+ in cellar has done this nothing but good, delivering a rich, savory, white that seems more like 1er Cru Chassagne than Saint Aubin.  Aromas of toasted nut, mint, verbena, caramel and consumme show at first, but turn to more fresh cut apple and tangy pineapple with air.  The texture is very rich and creamy, but the fruit flavors remain nicely fresh over the mature notes of grilled nut, caramel, and beef stock.  Dried caramel and chervil flavors play nicely on the long finish where just the right touch of acidity keeps things pure and clean.
