Ch Recougne Bordeaux Superior 2010 375ml Product #28678 (In Stock)
Ch Recougne Bordeaux Superior 2010 375ml Ch Recougne Bordeaux Superior 2010 375ml

As always, a lovely value!

"Admirers of the so-called “little” wines of Bordeaux will no doubt be familiar with Recougne, which has been imported into the United States for nearly thirty years and can last for two decades or more. The 2010, which they now call “Vieilles Vignes,” exhibits aromas and flavors of cedarwood, spice box, black currants and berries. This medium-bodied, well-made blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc should drink well for 7-8 years. (Although last year I drank a 1952 that was still quite tasty.)"Wine Advocate 87-88 points

Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2010 Product #28569 (In Stock)
Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2010 Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2010

If you know Negromaro from Salice Salentino, you’ll recognize the aromas and flavors here.  The dark color tells you this is a ripe, deep, wine, and the aromas of dark black plum and cherry, warm licorice root, savory spice, and purple flowers reinforce that impression.  In the mouth, the flavors are bold, warming and ripe – blackberry, black cherry, hot earth, roasted meat, spice and cocoa powder – with plenty of the meaty, earthy, complexity that Salice Salentino is known for.  But, it’s the purity, clarity, and wonderful freshness of flavor and texture that take this to another level.  Ripe, not roasted.  Powerful, not rustic.  Absolutely delicious with grilled sausages, roasted meats, or just nuts and olives, at a value price hard to resist.

“Good full ruby-red. Dark cherry and graphite aromas are lifted by an enticing spicy character. Supple, spicy and sweet, offering an uncanny combination of vibrancy, fat and density. Finishes suave and long, with fine, sweet tannins and very good lift.”International Wine Cellar 90 points

Cantina Gabriele Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2010 (Kosher) Cantina Gabriele Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2010 (Kosher)

Mevushal  Just a rock-solid take on one of Italy’s most versatile and fun to drink varietals.  The key themes here are “cherry” – ripe cherries on the nose, cherry confit flavors, even a dark black cherry color – and “spice”, a classic feature of Montepulciano grapes.  It’s medium-bodied, forward, and ready to drink now with lamb, brisket, and more.

Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010 Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010

This Sangiovese from the fairly new Tuscan DOC of Montecucco waaay over-delivers for it's modest price. Lush aromas of dark cherry fruit and leather carry through to the sexy palate, which bursts with tangy ripe fruit dusted with fresh herb. There's lots of richness here, but also great energy from beginning to end where a hit of bitter chocolate and herb linger nicely.  A whole lot of wine for the money.

Guigal Cotes-du-Rhone 2010 Product #28737 (In Stock)
Guigal Cotes-du-Rhone 2010 Guigal Cotes-du-Rhone 2010

Another great release from one of the Rhone's most important estates.

"Guigal’s Cotes du Rhone. I re-tasted the 2010 Cotes du Rhone, which is still in foudre. This cuvee is typically a blend of 50% Syrah and the rest Grenache and perhaps some Mourvedre. Guigal is known throughout the Rhone Valley for paying the highest price for generic Cotes du Rhone, and that in large part explains the quality of this wine year in and year out. It enjoys an extended upbringing in foudre and stainless steel tanks and is always a dense ruby/purple-colored wine with lots of blue and black fruits intermixed with notions of kirsch, licorice, lavender and spice. Supple and surprisingly intense, this delicious effort can age for 4-5 years."Wine Advocate 89 points

"Offers a roasted feel, with dark bramble, plum and tobacco notes accented by hints of pastis and apple wood, leading to a ganache- and charcoal-infused finish. Distinctive in feel, revealing a prominent yet integrated woodsy element." Wine Spectator 89 points

Ch Damase Bordeaux Superieur 2010 Product #29232 (In Stock)
Ch Damase Bordeaux Superieur 2010 Ch Damase Bordeaux Superieur 2010

Unusually for Bordeaux, Damase is planted 100% to Merlot due to its heavy clay soils.  Also unusual - at least at this price point - the wine ages entirely in new and 1 year-old oak casks for a year. The result is a richly fruit-filled Bordeaux - cherry, cassis, plum - with sophisticated accents of smoke, cedar, and herb.  Almost California fruit levels, but plenty of Bordeaux class at the end.

Billo Priorat Negre 2010 Product #28440 (In Stock)
Billo Priorat Negre 2010 Billo Priorat Negre 2010

Priorat tends to be a massive, intense, and cellar-worthy wine that needs time in cellar or big food to shine.  So, the 2010 Billo Negre is a very special treat – a supple, open, blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, and a little Cabernet Sauvignon that delivers plenty of classic Priorat character in a “drink me now” style.  Generous aromas of black plums, blackberry, warm stones and a touch of savory herb waft from the glass.  In the mouth the fruit turns more Grenache-like with raspberry and red plum joining the cassis and blue/black fruits and a touch of luscious milk chocolate coming up on the end.  It’s full of flavor and nicely concentrated, but stays wonderfully fresh and pure on the dark berry, chocolate, and warm stone finish. The soft, fine-grained, tannins give this more than enough heft to pair with pork tenderloin or lamb loin chops, but it’s pretty darn tasty all by itself, too.  A stellar value from rocky, dry, remote, Priorat.

Corte Adami Valpolicella Superiore 2010 Product #26892 (In Stock)
Corte Adami Valpolicella Superiore 2010 Corte Adami Valpolicella Superiore 2010

An "old school" Valpolicella from a fairly young estate (2004).  A blend of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes from 40 year-old vines done all in tank, this features ripe black cherry fruit flavors and aromas with a dash of fresh, resiny, pine and herb. With a little air, the fruit gets darker and spicier and a lovely dried tobacco note emerges.  Juicy and lightly tannic, this will work extremely well at table.

If there's a more fun to drink Loire Cab Franc out there, we don't know it!  While there's plenty of Anjou fresh herb, cracked pepper, and juicy acidity here, the lush, ripe, red currant, raspberry and cherry fruit stars.  The lush, velvety, mid-palate fruit coats your mouth before tangy cherry acidity scrubs things clean and hints of fresh raspberry blossom leaves you wanting more.

Vina Real Rioja Crianza 2010 Product #29279 (In Stock)
Vina Real Rioja Crianza 2010 Vina Real Rioja Crianza 2010

The second winery of Cvne blends more modern levels of fruit with old-school earthy elegance. Super value here.

"Complex scents of red and dark berries, cherry pit and rose, with a smoky overtone. Smooth, sweet and focused on the palate, offering redcurrant and raspberry flavors and a touch of allspice. Soft tannins shape the smoky, spicy, clinging finish."International Wine Cellar 90 points

"The Crianza is usually a blend of 90% Tempranillo complemented with small amounts of Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. 2010 had textbook climatic conditions to be a great vintage. The destemmed grapes carry out both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats and the wine ages for some 14 months in French and American oak barrels. This 2010 has a nice bright cherry color with a clean and open nose displaying red fruits and a spicy touch, coming through as quite a traditional nose and a polished palate with good acidity as they aim for freshness and drinkability. This Crianza represents superb value for money. Drink now-2020."Wine Advocate 91 points

A serious, dark, Malbec blend with notes of chocolate and superb concentration.  Needs air and big meant now.  This is great value.

"The 2010 Petite Fleur is a blend of 50% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah and 10% Merlot cropped at nine tons per acre. It has a ripe bouquet of creme de cassis, marmalade and blood orange that could be overbearing, but it is undeniably nicely controlled. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry. It has superb weight of fruit, while the finish is powerful yet elegant, with Asian spices, dark cherry and dried orange peel lingering on the aftertaste. Drink 2013-2018."Wine Advocate 90 points

Sur De Los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2010 Product #29211 (In Stock)
Sur De Los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2010 Sur De Los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2010

We’re not sure why it’s so much lower now, but why complain?  This is the rich, chocolaty, style of Mendoza Cabernet that Paul Hobbs made famous with his Felino line. This could be a tad richer and better structured than Felino, and it’s certainly less expensive.

“Layered berry and cassis aromas are a bit scratchy and gritty. This Cabernet feels saturated, pure and deep; flavors of blackberry, cassis, prune and chocolate are ripe and generous, while the finish is mildly herbal in flavor, with good length and build. Drink through 2018.” Wine Enthusiast 91 points

Bonanno Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012 Bonanno Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012

Not a lot of history here, with 2004 the Bonnano family's first vintage.  But, there's plenty of classic Napa Valley Cabernet character and class in the bottle.  A blend of Valley floor fruit from Rutherford, Oakville, St. Helena and Oak Knoll aged 20 months in (mostly used) French oak. Very Napa aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, blackberry, crushed herb and cedar with a rich texture and plush, soft, tannins.  A prickle of juicy acidity at the end makes this especially fine with richer meats, but you can certainly just sip it, too.  Nice value.

Ch La Gorre Medoc 2010 Product #28752 (In Stock)
Ch La Gorre Medoc 2010 Ch La Gorre Medoc 2010

"Cru Bourgeois" is the label given to Bordeaux estates of superior quality that were not listed in the Classification of 1855.  In a fine vintage (like 2010), this is where you'll find outstanding quality/value wines - like this beauty.  It's a blend of about equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with 5% Petite Verdot for spice.  It's a classic, classy, Left Bank Bordeaux with pretty fruit and fine, vigorous, structure.  Drink now with lamb or beef or let it keep opening for a few years.

""The La Gorre has a very attractive bouquet with lively, vivacious black cherries, boysenberry and crushed stone that is well defined and opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins. The acidity is crisp and the finish tense, with hints of graphite on the finish. This is a well-crafted Cru Bourgeois. Guigal Crozes Hermitage Rouge 2010 Product #28852 (In Stock)
Guigal Crozes Hermitage Rouge 2010 Guigal Crozes Hermitage Rouge 2010

Always an excellent value in traditionally-styled Northern Rhone Syrah, this really shines in the great 2010 vintage. Try it with lamb!

"Inky ruby. Lively red fruit, incense and floral qualities on the perfumed nose. Pliant black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show good depth and energy, with a subtle violet pastille nuance emerging with air. Smoky Indian spices build on the long, focused finish, which is framed by gentle, slow-building tannins. Distinctly different than the denser, darker 2009 bottling of this wine, which I was able to retaste with Philippe. That wine has picked up a smoky, gamey quality over the last year, which adds complexity to its sappy dark fruit flavors; I've seen it being offered for around $20 lately, which makes it an outstanding value."International Wine Cellar 91 points

"A grippy, old-school style, with lots of licorice root and roasted alder weaving around steeped plum and macerated black currant fruit. The grippy but lively acidity is well-buried. Very solid. Drink now through 2016. 25,000 cases made."Wine Spectator 91 points

Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 2010 Product #27563 (In Stock)
Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 2010 Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 2010

The 2010 harvest was fantastic for Barbera, and that blend of fine ripeness and zippy acidity shines through in spades here.  Luciano Sandrone blends fruit from 3 vineyards for this wine and then ages it for 12 months in 500 liter French oak barrels (about half new).  The wood allows Barbera’s tangy acids to relax and adds a little tannin, but the concentrated fruit has no trouble sopping up any oak flavors.  A great wine for big, boldly flavored, foods.

“Sandrone’s 2010 Barbera d’Alba is remarkably juicy and exuberant. There is plenty of rich, fleshy fruit in the glass, but at the same time, I expected to find more minerality and energy in this vintage. On the plus side, the French oak, which can sometimes be dominant, is better integrated than it has been at times. Overall, the 2010 is an excellent choice for drinking over the near and medium term.”Wine Enthusiast 89 points

“A lush, modern style, delivering plenty of power on a supple texture. Possesses definition and balance, intensity and length--just about all you could ask for in a Barbera. Drink now through 2015. 500 cases imported.”Wine Spectator 92 points

Yup, another great vintage for this wine that splits the difference between "modern" and "traditional" styles.

"(70% tempranillo, 20% garnacha, 7% mazuelo and 3% graciano; fermented in large oak vats and aged for 24 months in oak casks of varying size): Opaque ruby. Musky, deeply pitched aromas of ripe red fruit, game, lavender and roasted coffee. Shows very good spicy lift in the mouth, offering sweet raspberry and cherry flavors and an undercurrent of smoky minerals. Finishes with excellent focus and thrust; the slowly building tannins meld smoothly with the wine's dense fruit. Lindes de Remelluri Rioja Vinedos de San Vicente 2010 Lindes de Remelluri Rioja Vinedos de San Vicente 2010

A modern style Rioja, ripe and lush, but with plenty of structure and good balance. A fine choice for top-end steak or rich roasts or stews.

"Heady aromas of boysenberry, cassis, fennel and pipe tobacco, with a sexy vanilla undertone. Lush, velvety and sweet in the mouth, with sexy flavors of black and blue fruit preserves, licorice and floral pastilles. A fleshy, powerful but shockingly energetic Rioja, with supple tannins framing a long, sweet finish."International Wine Cellar 92 points

"The 2010 Lindes de Remelluri Vinedos de San Vicente is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Viura and Malvasia purchased from a number of vine growers from San Vicente de la Sonsierra. In the past these grapes were blended with the ones grown on the Remelluri estate vineyards. The 2010 is very aromatic, more fruit forward, with some grainy tannins, slightly more rustic than the one produced with grapes purchased in Labastida. The oak is perfectly folded into the nose and palate of the wine, which remains very fresh and approachable. 60,000 bottles were produced. Drink 2015-2020."Wine Advocate 91 points
