You won't find a better value in 2005 Barolo or Barbaresco than the Adriano Marco & Vittorio Barbaresco Basarin. While the 2005 vintage in Barolo was a slight step down from the fantastic 2004, Wine Spectator's Italian citic, James Suckling, rates 2005 in Barbaresco the same as 2004!
This is a very, very, pretty wine. I get aromas of red plum, sandlewood, red flowers, and just a hint of the balsamic character I love in a young Nebbiolo. The wine is still fairly tight to taste, but already shows red berry fruit with just a bit of red plum flavors. The texture is round and concentrated with nice, firm, ripe, tannin at the end. Showing well now with an hour or two in decanter and food, this will really sing with another three or four years in the cellar. A fantastic gift for any Italian wine lover!
Plum, berry and chocolate aromas follow through to a full body, with ripe, round tannins and a chewy finish. Concentrated and rich. Best after 2012.Wine Spectator 91 points
