This is the only white Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the store.  Why?  I don't buy them - they're usually too expensive, too oily, too prone to oxidization, just plain too much.  Then I had the chance to sit down with Andre Brunel in his tasting room in the Rhone Valley and taste this gem.  80% Roussanne with just 10% each of Grenache Blanc and Clairette, this is unusually bright, mineral, and complex.  Lots of body and a touch of oil, but great balance and the finish has to be experienced to be believed.  Drink on it's own, with freshwater fish in a rich sauce or even with Thai food laced with basil.

Rich but focused, with a gorgeous core of Jonagold apple, persimmon and lemon verbena notes backed by a mouthwatering salted butter finish. Offers lovely precision and length. Drink now through 2010. 400 cases made.Wine Spectator 92 points
