If you think Muscat is just a grapey, often sweet, wine suitable for making into Moscato, well, think again! The 2010 Arnaud de Villeneuve Muscat Sec is a bone dry but wildly flamboyant wine from France’s Languedoc Roussillon region. Extravagant aromas of white grape, tropical flowers, ginger and spice burst out of the glass. In the mouth there’s an explosion of spiced citrus, apricot, ginger, and asian five spice flavors with a lovely honeysuckle note emerging in the mid-palate. The wine finishes dry and refreshing with chalky mineral and gingery lime lingering nicely. Yes, this will be fantastic with Asian dishes but it’s so much fun that you’ll need to keep plenty on hand to drink on its own as well. And, a great value to boot!
