This young (founded 2006) winery turned out a winner in its second vintage! Several leading Spanish wine guides have given it big scores and the Spanish Association of Wine Writers and Journalists named it “Best in Spain: Red Wines 2007-2008” in an extensive blind tasting competition. A blend of Syrah and about Tinto Velasco (Alicante Bouschet), it delivers aromas of bright red fruit and baking spice that get support from subtle black plum and fresh earth accents. In the mouth, it’s medium-bodied and elegant with big flavors of red berries and black fruits with a dusting of cocoa powder emerging on the long, savory, finish. The juicy acids and fine, light, tannin make this a great companion to everything from grilled salmon to roast chicken or lamb stew. Very fine value!
“The 2007 Ellinze is 90% Syrah and 10% Tinto Velasco aged for six months in French and American oak. It offers up a fragrant, sexy nose of spice box, incense, lavender, and blueberry pie. Sweetly-fruited and with a bit of structure, this elegant, lengthy effort will evolve for 1-2 years and drink well through 2017.”Wine Advocate 90 points
