On release this wine was impenetrable, but importer Olivier Daubresse believed in the wine enough to buy a pallet of it and tucked it away in a corner of his warehouse to wait for the wine to blossom.  For those of you who know our other best-selling Burgs, it may help to think of this as a cross between Pascal Maillard’s Chorey les Beaune Rouge and Guillon’s Bourgogne Rouge from the vineyards around Gevrey-Chambertin.  More structure, earth, and mineral than the Chorey but more fruit and perfume (and less wood) than Guillon’s wine.  Wonderful, wonderful, balance.

Aromas of spring violets, ripe Bing cherries, and black cherry candy swirl around the glass, with the violet note especially pretty and prominent.  Then perfectly balanced red and black cherry fruit are framed by notes of fresh turned earth, graphite, candied violet and tangy raspberry fruit.  The fruit has moved forward over the past few years, but this is far from a fruit bomb - there’s a delicacy to the flavors and a pronounced mineral aspect all supported by firm, fine, ripe tannin on the long, earthy, finish.  There’s plenty of vibrancy and structure to support another 5 years (or more!) development in cellar, but this is delicious now.
