Unlike the Romitorio, I did not like this wine at all when I first tasted it in January of 2009. Well, I was just plain wrong. This is a very fine Brunello, possibly the best ever from this estate working with some of the region’s highest-altitude vineyards. In the past, they’ve struggled a bit with oak levels, but got just everything in the right place in 2004.

Clean notes of minerality give the wine superb balance. This is easily the most elegant, refined Brunello I have tasted yet from Canalicchio di Sopra and is one of the highlights in 2004.
