We’ve sold this wine for years as a rock-solid, party-friendly, bottle of value Chardonnay for folks who want bright, juicy, Chardonnay flavors with just a touch of French oak. But, the 2010 vintage of this old favorite steps up the concentration, quality, and flavor a lot – even as the price has plunged (at least for now!). This is 100% Chardonnay grown in relatively cool vineyards in California’s Central Coast region. Warm days deliver full ripeness while cool nights and mornings preserve plenty of vibrant acidity. And – a rarity for Cali Chards in this price range – 100% barrel fermentation and aging adds a surprisingly sophisticated touch of savory oak as well.
The show opens with clear, bright, aromas of fresh cut apple, melon, green pineapple and the barest hint of wood. In the mouth the flavors are bright and fresh with pineapple, citrus, and apple fruit framed by a touch of creamy vanilla. There’s good length here as juicy, citrusy, acidity wells up at the end and just a bit of wood tannin providing support. A fine cocktail sipper but also ready to shine with a wide range of foods.
