There aren't a lot of good value 2005 Bordeaux out there on the market today, so it was a delight to discover that we could still get our hands on this classic, Cabernet-based, Haut Medoc from one of the best vintages in the past 10 years. Larose-Trintaudon is one of the oldest, best known, and biggest estates in the entire Haut Medoc, so it's easy to overlook them when shopping for tasty Bordeaux. But, in 2005 this famous estate rose to the quality of the vintage and produced a fine Bordeaux for drinking now and over the next 5-8 years.
A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot in 2005, the Larose-Trintaudon offers up generous aromas of black currant, plum, pepper, smoky oak, and a touch of truffle. It's fully flavored with plenty of ripe black plum and currant fruit, chocolate, leather, and a dash of black pepper. No hard edges get in the way of enjoyment now, but there's enough structure to stand up to roasted meats or a few years aging. Nice value.
