We spend a lot of time looking for great wine values to bring you. Usually, we're trying to find classic wines that represent their local heritage, come with a cool story about the maker or region, and taste really delicious. Sometimes, one out of three ain't bad! The Chabert Chardonnay is from France's Langeudoc region, well-spring of the famous European "wine lake". Local importer Alan Cohen of LVDH and his partner in France found some lovely Chardonnay fruit growing here and prevailed on their friends at the Mas De Chabert winery to make this stunning little value white. All stainless steel and with at least some malolactic fermentation, the result is a wine that's just too darn tasty for it's very fair price.
Pour a glass and you'll find classic Chardonnay aromas - apple, white stone fruit, lemon zest, pear skin and a touch of fresh butter. Then there's a wonderful burst of ripe, round flavors featuring pineapple, green apple fruit a touch of refreshing mineral and lemon squirt acidity. There's just a hint of cream and butter, too, but mainly you'll notice the freshness and vibrancy of this creamy, easy-going, chardonnay. The pineapple/green apple fruit linger nicely and is framed by a hint of dusty mineral on the long, juicy, finish. A wine sure to appeal to both "Old World" and "New World" palates, and a fantastic value.
