We loved this estate's 2006 Chateauneuf-du-Pape around Christmastime, and now we're very impressed with the 2006 Gigondas. Mainly Grenache with a dollop of Syrah, the wine starts out shy and then blossoms with 30 minutes or so of air. Classic aromas of dark red berries, thyme and rosemary, and a bit of dark earth lead to a focused, medium-bodied wine featuring black raspberry and red cherry fruit, herbs, and a hint of grilled bread. Plenty big enough for Gigondas, but sophisticated, too.
