Here’s a stunning Chardonnay value from the little-known VdP des Bouches du Rhone appellation in the south of France.  Domaine Isle Saint Pierre sources the fruit for this juicy, fresh, wine from vines ranging from 35-55 year-old.  The Domaine has practiced sustainable viticulture for the past 10 years and uses no herbicides or pesticides.  To ensure that the wines are as fresh as possible, the winery has been built right in the middle of the vineyards and all wines are fermented and aged in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks.

Give this a swirl and you’ll find bright, ripe, aromas of fresh cut apple and a little white peach jump out of the glass.  Take a mouthful and you’ll find juicy green apple, peach, and pineapple  fruit with hints of white flower and pear and just a tiny touch of Provencal herbs.  Although there’s plenty of vigorous acidity, this medium-bodied chardonnay is round and easy-drinking with lovely melon, lime and mineral notes on the mouthwatering finish.  A great example of how well-grown Chardonnay fruit can deliver loads of refreshment and pleasure without any obfuscating oak.
