Cuvee des Crayeres offers a fantastic introduction to Eric Rodez’s artisan grower Champagne. The wine is a 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir - for body and structure - and Chardonnay - for elegance and finesse. I always love this wine, but the current release could be the best yet. Brimming with aromas an flavors of fresh baked bread, brioche, white flowers, and wet stone with accents of rich apple, ripe white fruits, and a touch of caramel and spice. The kind of Champagne you can drink all day and night long, open and delicious enough for a crowd but refined enough for the most serious Champagne fans.
“From Ambonnay, equal proportions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Based on 2007 (50%) with reserve wines 2006 (31%), 2005 (9%), 2004 (8%) and 2% from the great 2002 vintage. 25% of the wine was vinified in oak. Dosage 6 g/l. Very fine persistent bead. Complex, well developed nose with some honey and toast - though no obvious oak. Very firm, solid and savoury. Serious champagne. Rather Bollinger style. Long - almost smokes a cigar, this champagne!” Jancis Robinson 17/20
