One of the best values in true Vintage Champagne we’ve ever seen. Like the Cuvee Crayeres, this is a 50/50 blend of Grand Cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. About half of the base wine was aged in small oak barrels, including 10-15% new wood. The result is a powerful, deep, wine with layers and layers of flavor.
The 2000 Vintage Champagne opens with super rich aromas of strawberry, almond, hazelnut, and fresh toast. The palate is very rich and creamy, but somehow fine and delicate, too. The complex flavors feature notes of almond and grilled nuts with ripe apple fruit and a bright saline note for complexity and freshness. The finish is crisp, toasty, and very long. A great example of how oak can add depth and power to Champagne without intruding or adding woody flavors.
