One of the big surprises from our 2010 Burgundy dinner was Dom Albert Grivault’s Pommard Clos Blanc 2003. Many were surprised to discover this mainly Meursault producer even made red wine, and the “Clos Blanc” name doesn’t help (it refers to the white stones in the vineyard). But owner/manager Michel Bardet’s success with fine red Burgundy becomes clear as you enjoy this fine 2003. The warm vintage conditions were a positive here, adding deeper and more generous fruit on top of classic Pommard mineral, earth, and spice. Drinks very well right now, but who knows how long it will hold – a 1923 Grivault Pommard Clos Blanc tasted in Burgundy last year was still going strong!
