Youthfully closed now, after an hour in decanter complex aromas of wild strawberry, black cherry, jasmine, and herbs de Provence emerge with notes of exotic spices - star anise, ginger, and cardamom - showing with time. In the mouth, the wine is big, round, and silky with layers of dark red and black fruits, savory herb, lavender, and a touch of clove flavors pumping through the long, slightly juicy, finish. For me, this is about as good as New World Grenache gets - distinctively California but also firmly anchored in the traditions of the Rhone Valley.
“Firm and spicy, with a medley of dried currant, dark berry, tobacco leaf, herb and mineral notes. Full-bodied, complex and structured, ending with a long, persistent finish that dwells on the earthy tobacco flavors. Best from 2012 through 2020.”Wine Spectator 93 points
