Here's a new-world take on one of Southern Italy's most interesting varietals, Primitivo. The folks from Hundred Acre in California source the fruit for this wine from an old-vine vineyard in Salento, the “Heel of the Boot” of Italy. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, a portion of the wine spends a year or so in small barrels to gain complexity and softness.
This is an inky black wine that bursts with ripe black frui, spice, and white pepper aromas. In the mouth, robust flavors of jammy black cherries, plums, blackberry fruit, truffles, tar, and espresso. A great wine for rich pasta, pizza, or anything grilled.
