We loved the 2006 Mas Estela Quindals when Jonas first imported it back in late 2009. By the time the Wine Advocate review came out in April 2010, we’d already sold a ton to folks like you who recognize a top quality, super value, Spanish red when you taste it. Once the review hit, though, the rest of Jonas’s initial shipment was all too quickly gone.
Now Jonas has managed to persuade the winery to give him their last stocks of 2006 Quindals, and the extra two years aging at the winery has taken it to new heights. The flavors and aromas have expanded, with even more roasted raspberry fruit, dark chocolate, and fresh earth flavors completely coating your mouth and lingering on and on. Still plenty of minerality and find structure here in a wine that will continue to improve for a half-decade or more.“Powerful aromas of red berry preserves, flowers and Asian spices remind me of a New World pinot noir. "The 2006 Quindals is 90% Garnacha with the balance Syrah and Carinena that spent 12 months in 50% new French oak. Medium ruby-colored, it displays an enticing nose of kirsch, black cherry, garrigue, Asian spices, and smoke reminiscent of a top Chateauneuf du Pape. On the palate it has superb volume, tons of spice, succulent fruit, a forward personality, and a lengthy, pure finish. This outstanding value over-delivers in a big way."Wine Advocate 92 points
