Muller-Catoir remains ones of the truly great producers in all of Germany and, certainly, the very top producer in the Pfaltz. Although their traditional, sweeter wines are outstanding, I've always been entranced by Muller-Catoir's of-dry and fully dry wines. The 2007 Haardt Kabinett Trocken Riesling is a fine introduction to the house style. The wine is all about limes, slate , peach blossoms, and fantastic energy and zip. Drunk at "regular" white wine temperature, it's racy and bracing and a great shellfish wine. Allowed to warm up a little bit it takes on some richness and extra depth that makes it a great accompaniment to grilled tuna or even lime-accented chicken or pork dishes. Really good stuff.
