I was tasting Isole e Olena wines with owner/winemaker Paolo De Marchia few weeks ago, when he surprised me by offering a sip of the 2006 Uvaggio. Paolo says that this wine is his new pride and joy, and it’s easy to see why. There’s a definite nebbiolo character to the wine - cherry/raspberry fruit and some fine tannin - but also wildly intriguing notes of spice and citrus. It’s very long on the palate and finish and will be a beautiful match for lighter meat, poultry, or vegetarian dishes. Beguiling and quite rare, this drinks well now and will improve and hold for 7-10 years.

Classically structured and packed with layers of sour red cherry, raspberry and cinnamon flavour.
