Get to Know Union Sacre's Limited Production Treats!

Ask anyone who joined our Spotlight on Union Sacre Wines class with winemaker Xavier Arnaudin last week.  They’ll tell you that the story is compelling, the winemaker talented and passionate, and the wines – well, they’re not only terrific.  They’re amazingly inexpensive for what you find in your glass.  To prove it, we'll have four Union Sacre wines on sale and open to taste this Saturday from noon – 4pm.  The Riesling is zesty and fresh, the “accidental” Cab/Syrah blend rich and deep, and both Cabernet Sauvignons are great now and built to improve with time.  The regular prices are already compelling.  At our mix/match case savings prices this week.  Well, you should take a case.

Union Sacre Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Le Clandestin 2015 Union Sacre Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Le Clandestin 2015

It's just a matter of time before Union Sacre is christened the "Hot New California Winery" by the critics.  Until then, enjoy these amazing wines at headscratchingly low prices.  A bold blend of dark-fruited Santa Barbara Syrah with ripe, red-fruited, Cabernet Sauvignon given enough time in oak to meld and mellow without turning into an oaky mess.  Black currant, fresh plum and dark chocolate aromas and flavors dominate with woodsy blueberry notes adding interest on the soft, supple, finish.  Only 169 cases made.  A very nice wine.

Union Sacre Cabernet Sauvignon Le Confident 2016 Product #32833 (In Stock)
Union Sacre Cabernet Sauvignon Le Confident 2016 Union Sacre Cabernet Sauvignon Le Confident 2016

The bottom-line here is simple:  buy this glorious California Cabernet while you can at these crazy low prices.  Because this winery and wine are going to pop up on critics’ radar soon enough, and then you’ll struggle to find (and possibly afford) it.  Union Sacre is a fairly new venture of Michigan-born Philip Muzzy and France’s Xavier Arnaudin.  What’s most exciting about this project is how Philip and Xavier don’t try to do too much (well, the labels are extravagant, but they work).

This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a great 2016 harvest in Santa Barbara’s Happy Canyon AVA.  It delivers genuinely soaring aromas of classic Cabernet fresh black currant, crushed raspberry, sweet spice, and dusty dried herb.  It’s richly textured in the mouth and fully ripe, but remains phenomenally pure, silky and elegant.  Bold flavors of crushed black berries, cassis, spice, tobacco and cedar get an exotic lift of burnt orange peel, filling your mouth through the middle and continuing to pump out and linger over a long, silky  smooth, finish.  Delicious and easy to drink tonight, Le Confident will just get better over the next 5-10 years.  By which time fame and market forces will have caught up with this exciting new winery and prices will be much, much, higher.

Union Sacre La Passion Du Diable Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 Product #32988 (In Stock)
Union Sacre La Passion Du Diable Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 Union Sacre La Passion Du Diable Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

If you love serious, concentrated, deeply textured and powerfully structured Napa Cabernet Sauvignon - then wander on down to the Canyon and get Happy!  Winemaker Xavier Xavier Arnaudin crafts seven barrels (165 cases) of this powerful, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Star Lane vineyard in Santa Barbara's Happy Canyon.  Grown at nearly 2,000 feet elevation, the vines benefit from plenty of sunshine and warm mornings for ripeness and then rapidly cooling breezes from the Pacific Ocean every afternoon.  Aging in 100% new French oak gives the wine shape and spice, but the fruit just will not be covered in wood.

Classic Napa-like aromas of black currant, blackberry, sweet spice, crushed herb and dark chocolate pump out of the glass from first pour and get deeper and richer with air.  On the palate, the wine is focused, concentrated, and muscular with intense black fruit (currant, plum, berry) dusted with cocoa powder and complicated by a layer of spice.  It's a big wine, but stays amazingly fresh through the long, firmly tannic, ripe fruit and dark chocolate finish.  Amazingly, this has no acid added in the winery - this unique site and careful winemaking delivers fantastic freshness to go with full-bodied power.  Delicious now, better from 2020 and great through 2030 or so.
