Klinker Brick Old Ghost Zinfandel 2014 Product #31861 (In Stock)
Klinker Brick Old Ghost Zinfandel 2014 Klinker Brick Old Ghost Zinfandel 2014

No messing around here - if you've been longing for a big, bold, old-school Lodi Zin with just a touch of class, this is for you.  It's 100% Old Vine Zin grown on the hot, dry, hills of Lodi and aged 18 months in a mix of French and American oak.  Lots of bramble, black fruit, clove and exotic spice aromas and flavors here in a wine that really saturates your mouth with intense flavors.  A dose of spicy black pepper comes out on the plush, bold, finish and makes this a perfect pairing for porterhouse steak.

"While quite ripe and fruity, this wine is also dry, nicely tannic and firmly textured, so it will pair beautifully with rich proteins. Aged 18 months in oak, mostly French, it has concentrated dark fruit aromas, and a layered array of flavors that recalls blueberry, dark chocolate and blackberry syrup. Bright acidity keeps everything in balance."Wine Enthusiast 92 points

Le Chai Duchet Vire Clesse Quintessance 2015 Product #32889 (In Stock)
Le Chai Duchet Vire Clesse Quintessance 2015 Le Chai Duchet Vire Clesse Quintessance 2015

Holy cow and zowie – this is just plain great Chardonnay!  "Quintessence" means "the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class" or "a refined essence or extract."  This is the Quintessence of Vire-Clesse.  It’s from a 4 acre plot of 80 year-old Chardonnay planted to incredible density – a whopping 4,400 vines per acre. Alexis Duchet farms this site organically with natural treatments for pests and the soil worked by horse-drawn plow.  Fermentation in stainless steal with the yeast from the vineyard and winery is followed by 10-12 months aging in concrete tank.  Natural, pure, simple.

Nothing simple about the wine, though.  The aromas and flavors are deep, complex, and satisfying with layers of ripe stone fruit, buttered pear, crushed hazelnut and salty mineral.  But structure and texture are what really excites here.  The wine enters with a prickle-point of acid, fans out to envelope and coat your palate with richness, and then snaps back into lazer-like minerally focus as fresh citrus acids bring up the rear.  And the finish goes on and on and your mouth waters gently and flavors of stone fruit, pear, apple, hazelnut and mint linger for a minute-plus.  A great wine right now that will certainly age nicely – but why wait?

Montenidoli Toscana Rosso Sono Montenidoli 2015 Product #32932 (In Stock)
Montenidoli Toscana Rosso Sono Montenidoli 2015 Montenidoli Toscana Rosso Sono Montenidoli 2015

One of Tuscany's most famed estates - but only in Italy and mainly among the lucky few who met the late Sergio Muratori and Elisabetta Fagiuoli, Sergio's very much alive cofounder and creator of Montenidoli in the Chianti hills not far from San Gimignano.  The 24ha acres of vines are nestled into 250ha of woodlands, rising from ancient seabed soils at the base to blood-red, iron-rich, remnants of the Triassic period at the top of the hill.  These are the oldest soils in Tuscany and the only place they are planted to vine.

Elisabetta's Sangiovese grows naturally (only a little copper or sulfur as needed) in the poor red soils, ripening stunning cherry and strawberry fruit flavors while sucking up and sharing layer up on layer of iron ore minerality.  Aging a year in neutral oak gives the wine some roundness, but the tannins here are still classically firm and mouthcoating - the kind of big mouthful of tannin that's satisfying and mouthwatering, not hard or bitter.  The wine's delicious and rare and priced far, far, below its value.  Try it.

Danilo Thomain Enfer d'Arvier Vallee d'Aoste 2015 Product #32957 (In Stock)
Danilo Thomain Enfer d'Arvier Vallee d'Aoste 2015 Danilo Thomain Enfer d'Arvier Vallee d'Aoste 2015

From a tiny, 12 acre, appellation in the shadow of Switzerland's Mont Blanc, this is a 400 case rarity you do not want to miss. The grape is Petit Rouge, grown almost exclusively in the Valle d'Aoste, and it gives a very Beaujolais-style wine with plump black cherry, currant and violet aromas and flavors.  The flavors are intense but the wine is relaxed, round and plump and finishing with chalky tannins and savory flavors of chocolate, dark cherry and crushed flowers. A captivating bottle for sipping at the end of a hard day and pairing with rich, warming, foods.

La Staffa Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi 2016 Product #32971 (In Stock)
La Staffa Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi 2016 La Staffa Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi 2016

The famous white wine of Italy's Marches region, Verdicchio from Castelli di Jesi's hills gave strength to the Visigoth troops of King Alarich when they marched on Rome in the late 300s.  This version is a good deal fresher and more delicious than that!  Green apple, preserved lemon, and green citrus flavors abound here in a wine that's pure, lovely and long.  The apple, lemon and lime flavors linger nicely on the mouthwatering finish in a wine that will give you strength to eat a little more seafood (if not march on Rome).

"Bright straw. Nectarine, dried orange peel, walnut and fresh white flowers are lifted by a minty topnote; a hint of volatile acidity blows off with aeration. Glyceral and fruit-driven on the palate, with flavors of stone fruit nectar and lime framed and lifted by harmonious acidity. Very long and refreshing on the aftertaste." Vinous (D'Agata) 91 points
