Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rose 2016 Product #31771 (In Stock)
Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rose 2016 Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rose 2016

Our first 2016 rosé is a winner!  It’s equal parts Syrah and Carignan, grown and harvested fresh just for rosé.  After a few hours of fermentation, the juice is pressed off the black grape skins, giving it a just-right amount of color and structure while allowing the juice to retain all of its natural freshness and vibrancy.

As soon as you see this in your glass, you know you’re in for a treat.  It’s a beautifully transparent salmon pink that almost sparkles in sunshine.  Aromas of fresh picked strawberries and crushed red fruits – raspberries and cherries – get a lift from floral accents and a hint of citrus rind.  In the mouth, it’s bright and crisp with loads of berry fruit and just a touch of mineral, showcasing the short 2016 vintage’s silky texture and ripe fruit.  The acids come up on the finish and make your mouth water, leaving you looking for a little bite to eat or another refreshing sip.  Drink this on its own anytime you like, or pair it with anything from smoked salmon to fruited chicken salad.  “Berry” delicious!

Dom De La Bastide Cotes Du Rhone Rose 2016 Product #32008 (In Stock)
Dom De La Bastide Cotes Du Rhone Rose 2016 Dom De La Bastide Cotes Du Rhone Rose 2016

Here’s the bottom line:  if you love great Provençal rosé, then you’re going to flip for this wine and struggle to believe how inexpensive it is.  In what’s shaping up to be the finest French rosé vintage of at least the past decade, Baside’s Cotes du Rhone Rosé competes with some of the finest wines of the vintage on quality and simply crushes even average bottlings on price.

We’ve come to really love the simple, clean, approach Vincent and Stephanie Boyer bring to growing and making wine.  They farm family vineyards in and around Vissan, a cooler slice of the Southern Rhone not far from the foothills of the Alps.  They grow their grapes organically, keep yields low, and do as little as possible in the winery to allow the quality of their fruit to shine through in your glass.  The 2016 Rose is 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Cinsault and 100% delicious.  Huge aromas of strawberry, peach, watermelon, cherry and dusty herb really explode from your glass.  Then those mid-summer fruit flavors fill every nook and cranny of your mouth with extra lift from notes of citrus zest, more herb, and watermelon rind pickle – sweet, sour and spicy.  The finish is chalky, mouthwatering and dry, pulling you back for sip after sip.

Bagordi Usoa de Bagordi Rioja Rosado Organic 2016 Product #31957 (In Stock)
Bagordi Usoa de Bagordi Rioja Rosado Organic 2016 Bagordi Usoa de Bagordi Rioja Rosado Organic 2016

If you think Spanish rose has to be dark, fat and a little syrupy, then you've got to try this beauty.  It's 100% Garnacha, picked while the acids are still fresh, allowed to soak on the skins for 18 hours and then pressed off for fermentation in tank. It's full of Sangria-like fruit - cherry, strawberry, green melon- and shows a creamy, round, texture in the middle. Then tart Granny Smith apple and a squeeze of lemony citrus clean things up on the dry, brisk, finish.  Very fun.

Ch Vignelaure Rose Coteaux d'Aix En Provence 2015 Product #31145 (In Stock)
Ch Vignelaure Rose Coteaux d'Aix En Provence 2015 Ch Vignelaure Rose Coteaux d'Aix En Provence 2015

A blend of 40% Grenache - bled from red wine tanks - plus 30% direct press Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.  The texture is the real story here, round and plush and mouthfilling but still light and fresh.  You'll love it right now as a late-Summer refresher, but hold on to some for end-of-year feasts and even for Summer 2017 - because this will just get better with time!

"Pale orange. Aromas of orange zest, strawberry and white flowers show very good clarity and a subtle mineral element. Juicy and focused, offering ripe strawberry and tangerine flavors that put on weight with aeration. Fleshy, focused and dry on the penetrating finish, which shows good, nervy cut and minerally persistence."  Vinous (Reynolds) 90 points

"Editors Choice! Coming from a remote estate on the edge of the Lubéron mountains in the north of Provence, this wine is impressively rich. It gains great concentration and structure from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah in the blend. Full of ripe red fruits, it is dense at the end."Wine Enthusiast 93 points

Dom Du Dragon Grande Cuvee Rose Cotes De Provence 2016 Product #31897 (In Stock)
Dom Du Dragon Grande Cuvee Rose Cotes De Provence 2016 Dom Du Dragon Grande Cuvee Rose Cotes De Provence 2016

Since the 2001 vintage first appeared in the store years ago, Dragon Rosé has been a consistent customer and staff favorite year after year.  The Lienard family tends about 50 acres of vines in Provence and makes this from Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache, and a nice dose of Rolle grown just for pink wine.  Grapes are grown specifically for rosé and are harvested at the perfect balance of fresh fruit and juicy acidity.  Once in the winery, they are lightly crushed and allowed to pick up a just right touch of pink color and red berry flavor before pressing and finishing fermentation in cool stainless steel tanks.

In the outstanding (if small) 2016 vintage, Dragon Rosé has a rich texture and just as much complexity and refreshing vibrancy as ever.  Zesty aromas and flavors of tangy fruit – strawberry, redcurrant, and blood orange – take center stage with a nice dose of rose petal and classic Provençal herb for complexity.  A squeeze of citrus and dusting of chalky mineral help chase the pretty flavors across your palate and leave your mouth watering on the crisp, spicy, stony dry finish.  A lovely match for everything from grilled salmon to Salade Niçoise and delightful to sip on its own.

J. Mourat Fiefs Vendeens Collection Rose 2016 Product #31960 (In Stock)
J. Mourat Fiefs Vendeens Collection Rose 2016 J. Mourat Fiefs Vendeens Collection Rose 2016

From the Western Loire Valley appellation of Fiefs Vendeens, this ripe and juicy blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Negrette is even more fun in the stellar 2015 vintage.  Ripe aromas of crushed cherry and watermelon and a touch of fresh herb lead the way to a big mouthful of cherry/berry fruit and a fresh, juicy, mouthwatering finish.  Lip-smacking and fun to smell, drink and just admire – especially in the throw-back old-school bottle.  A bit richer and creamier than in the past; just as dry and crisp.  Great stuff to sip or enjoy with any spring or summer meal.

Dom Philippe Plantevin Cotes Du Rhone Rose 2015 Product #31025 (In Stock)
Dom Philippe Plantevin Cotes Du Rhone Rose 2015 Dom Philippe Plantevin Cotes Du Rhone Rose 2015

A blend of 90% Mourvedre – the earthy black grape made famous in Bandol to the south – plus 10% Grenache grown in stone covered vineyards near the Rhone village of Cairanne.  And like Bandol, Philippe Plantevin's rose is even better with an extra winter to rest and unwind.

The brilliant color is deep watermelon red with brick orange highlights.  There’s an earthy, savory, bass note to the dark cherry, ripe watermelon, and luxurious strawberry fruit aromas and flavors with plenty of classic Provençal garrigue (wild thyme, rosemary and lavender) accents.  Bigger and much more deeply flavored and textured on the palate than Grenache-dominant rosés, this has the hearty heft you normally have to go to much more expensive Bandol to find.  But a twist of orange peel and citrusy acids keep the flavors fresh and bright and the long, dry, herb and watermelon-laced finish keep you coming back for more.  This powerful pink will really sing when you pair it with meaty grilled fish, herb-crusted lamb, or charred vegetables seasoned with a dollop of garlicy aioli.

Ch Peyrassol Commanderie Rose Cotes De Provence 2016 Product #31900 (In Stock)

A classic Provençal rosé from Neal Rosenthal Imports, the Commanderie de Peyrassol Rosé is a blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah, with a touch of Mourvedre.

Grapes have been harvested at this historic estate along the route of the Crusaders since 1256, way before Provençal rosé showed up in anyone’s Instagram feed. This estate’s flagship rosé has the traditional pale watermelon color from using the direct press method, and shows lovely aromas of melon and peach. Don’t let its pale color fool you - this rosé has enough structure and mouthwatering acidity to stand up to burgers and barbecue while still being a perfect standalone sipper.
