Secret Squirrel Columbia Valley Bordeaux Blend 2014 Product #32890 (In Stock)
Secret Squirrel Columbia Valley Bordeaux Blend 2014 Secret Squirrel Columbia Valley Bordeaux Blend 2014

The Corliss family owns two premier Washington State wineries.  Corliss is located in the Red Mountain AVA and focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varietals.  Tranche is in the Blue Mountains and does mainly Rhone blends.  The owners are VERY particular and selective of which barrels go into their flagship wines, especially at Corliss where the focus is on making very long-lived Cab blends.  Barrels that are too full of fruit, soft and supple for the big wines are blended after 14+ months in new and a little used French oak.

While Corliss won’t reveal the full “secret” of this blend, we know it’s mainly Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon plus Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec from Corliss and Tranche.  In the warm, ripe, rich 2014 vintage it’s a warm, ripe, rich wine.  Aromas of ripe blackberries and sage, with a hint of coffee invite you to take a sip. The flavors are bold, dark and rich, with powerful flavors of blackberry, black currant and dark plum accented by notes of tobacco and spice.  Despite all these dark, rich flavors, the fruit flavors are vibrant and exciting and the finish is firm enough for a steak, but not too firm to sip alone. You won’t want to keep this a secret!

Tranche Slice Of Pape Blanc 2014 Product #33025 (In Stock)

From the sister winery of Corliss, this Rhone grape specialist has created a compelling take on CdP Blanc.

"Very ripe apricot and fig aromas are enlivened by notes of orange and minerals. Terrific texture and spicy lift to the lemon, orange and fresh herb flavors. Almost aggressively fruity but complicated by a saline element and framed by brisk acidity. Finishes salty, energetic and long. I'd love to slip this in a flight of white Châteauneuf du Papes."  Vinous (Tanzer) 91 points

"The 2014 Slice Of Pape Blanc checks in as a blend of 28% Viognier, 20% Roussanne, 18% Grenache Blanc and the balance Picpoul, Marsanne and Clairette. Its light/medium gold color is followed by terrific notes of apricot, white peach, buttered citrus and toasted nuts. Rich, textured, layered and a full-flavored white, it's going to shine on the dinner table."Wine Advocate 91 points

Peter Rossback makes big, bold, flashy Cabernet Sauvignons from top sites across the Columbia Valley that drink well young and gain from time, too.  This one is 100% Cabernet from Champoux and Phinny Hill vineyards and showcases the intense ripeness of vintage 2014.  Loaded with crushed raspberry and blackberry fruit, the new French oak here adds plenty of polish and spice.  The finish is fine and long, with dark chocolate, sweet spice, and ripe red currant and black raspberry fruit flavors lingering over supple, refined, tannins.  Outstanding value that is very much anchored in the  Columbia Valley but will delight Napa Cab fans, too.

Long Shadows Pirouette Columbia Valley 2014 Long Shadows Pirouette Columbia Valley 2014

Long Shadows brings some of the world's most famous winemakers to Washington to work with ripe, rich, Columbia Valley fruit.  Philippe Melka makes lushly textured Cabernet in Napa for Vineyard 29, Roy Estate and others and here he does the same with a classic Bordeaux blend.  Really delicious.

"Made by Philippe Mekla, the 2014 Pirouette checks in as a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Petit Verdot, 17% Merlot, 7% Cab Franc and a splash of Malbec. This inky colored beauty gives up tons of graphite, toasted spice, dried herbs and chocolatey dark fruit, full-bodied richness, building, ripe tannin and a great finish. It’s another killer wine from this estate, and possibly the best to date."Wine Advocate 94+ points

Corliss Estate Red Blend Columbia Valley 2012 Product #32574 (In Stock)
Corliss Estate Red Blend Columbia Valley 2012 Corliss Estate Red Blend Columbia Valley 2012

Not a "second wine", but a Bordeaux Blend with only 50% Cabernet Sauvignon vs 97% for the Cabernet Sauvignon.  It's a tad more approachable than the Cabernet and clearly more elegant but still has all the long-term cellar staying power you could want. Decant now or drink from 2020.

"The nose offers a panoply or aromas without any sign of excess ripeness: huckleberry, alpine raspberry, plum and coriander, with sexy oak tones and a hint of medicinal lift. Wonderfully elegant, silky and tactile, with compellingly sweet currant and black cherry fruit perfectly balanced by harmonious acidity. A complete wine with great texture and energy. Still a bit tight on the back, but already spreads out to saturate the palate. The noble tannins should carry this wine for a long time."  Vinous (Tanzer) 95+? points

"The 2012 Columbia Valley Red Wine is another rock star Bordeaux blend that’s made from 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Cabernet Franc, 13% Merlot, and the balance Petit Verdot and Malbec. It was aged 28 months in 65% new French oak. Notes of cassis, tobacco leaf, lead pencil shavings and black currants all emerge from this rich, full-bodied and concentrated effort that has a big, layered texture, no hard edges and impeccable balance. It’s slightly more approachable than the straight Cabernet, yet should nevertheless evolve for just as long."Wine Advocate 95 points

Corliss Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2012 Product #32575 (In Stock)
Corliss Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2012 Corliss Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2012

Philippe Melka consults at this top-flight Washington estate that is investing both the money and time to do things exactly right.  Their flagship Cabernet is tightly wound and densely packed today but will be explosively delicious from 2020 or so.  If you like Napa classics like Bond, this is going to delight you at one-third the price.

"The nose offers stunningly primary, pure aromas of blueberry, cassis, licorice, botanical herbs and high-pitched spices. Extremely densely packed and savory; drier and more brooding in the mouth than the nose suggests, and less sweet in the early going than the red blend in spite of its almost glyceral texture. Very deep flavors of dark berries, Baker's chocolate and clove are supported by building, ripe tannins that coat the teeth. Finishes with impressive slow-building persistence. This will need time."  Vinous (Tanzer) 95+ points

"A wine that I would put up there with the crème de la crème of Washington State Cabernet is the 2012 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Corliss, which is insanely good and does everything right. It is made from 97% Cabernet and 3% Petit Verdot that spent 28 months in 70% new French oak. It’s saturated ruby/purple color is followed by fabulous notes of crème de cassis, toasted spice, chocolate and tobacco leaves. These give way to a full-bodied, seamless and layered 2012 that has fabulous purity and freshness, a big, rich mid-palate and sweet tannin that emerge on the finish, all suggesting it will have a long life. Forget bottles for 4-5 years and drink over the following two decades. Bravo!"Wine Advocate 97 points

Limited, so don't delay and miss this chance to add a little perfection to your cellar and table!

"This is a sensational vintage from Quilceda's Paul and Alex Golitzin! Both the classic Columbia Valley Cabernet and the Galitzine Vineyard are sheer perfection, and the Palengat release is also just about as good as it gets. These are incredible wines that offer everything you could want from Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon, and readers owe it to themselves to try these wines!

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is another tour de force from this estate that's reminiscent of first growth Bordeaux from a vintage like 2009. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in new barrels, it offers incredible notes of blackcurrants, graphite, lead pencil shavings and crushed rocks in a full-bodied, decadent, insanely layered and seamless style. This beauty possesses ultra-fine tannin, no hard edges and a forward, already hard to resist style, yet it's going to keep for more than two decades." Wine Advocate 100 points
