Usoa De Bagordi Rioja Rosado 2017 Product #33243 (In Stock)

If you think Spanish rose has to be dark, fat and a little syrupy, then you've got to try this beauty.  It's 100% Garnacha, picked while the acids are still fresh, allowed to soak on the skins for 18 hours and then pressed off for fermentation in tank. It's full of Sangria-like fruit - cherry, strawberry, green melon- and shows a creamy, round, texture in the middle. Then tart Granny Smith apple and a squeeze of lemony citrus clean things up on the dry, brisk, finish.  Very fun.

Lexicon Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2016 Product #32531 (In Stock)
Lexicon Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2016 Lexicon Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2016

A fresh, fun, Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc value with just a bit of a twist.  You'll find plenty of classic Kiwi character here, with a big dose of cut grass, ripe green melon and sweet/sour citrus. But the grapefruit runs more Ruby Red than white and the generous texture keeps the wine from turning sharp or astringent.  Terrific sipper, great with seafood, and just a fine all-around value.

La Tremenda Monastrell Alicante 2014 Product #32629 (In Stock)
La Tremenda Monastrell Alicante 2014 La Tremenda Monastrell Alicante 2014

We love bringing you bottles like this – wines that are both deliciously authentic expressions of a grape and place AND carrying the reassuring praise of the international wine press.  The grape here is Monastrell, better known to many as France’s Mourvedre in its starring role in Bandol and Ch Beaucastel’s Chateauneuf du Pape.  On the high plains of Spain’s Alicante region and under the care of the committed traditionalists at Enrique Mendoza, this marries rich ripeness of fruit with earthy, herbal, complexity and a finish that’s long, firm, but still very easy to enjoy.  Sure, it’s built to pair with rich stews and savory roasted and grilled meats.  But the ripe fruit and silky finish will give plenty of pleasure before the food ever hits the table.

"This wine has six months in used 500-liter barrels and a variable time in vat, between six months and one year. The 2014 feels very tender, it has the esparto grass austerity of the stony vineyards with the chalky soils and a myriad of Mediterranean herbs. They used some stems for the fermentation, which added a fine thread and makes it subtly textured. It has the dusty tannins and the saline tastiness of the limestone soils. It represents a superb value and a great introduction to the Monastrell from Alicante; the price is hard to believe."Wine Advocate 92 points

Charles Thomas Cotes Du Rhone Blanc 2016 Product #32951 (In Stock)
Charles Thomas Cotes Du Rhone Blanc 2016 Charles Thomas Cotes Du Rhone Blanc 2016

What a great value in refreshing, aromatic, and fun-to-drink white wine!  While Charles Thomas wines are always great values, it's not because they don't work hard in their vineyards.  This is a ripe, rich, blend of organically farmed Grenache Blanc (70%), Rousanne (15%), Marsanne (10%), and Viognier (5%), all made fresh and clean in stainless steel.  Lovely aromas of fresh white peach, tangy apricot, lime zest and white flowers open the show.  In the mouth, there's good weight here - due to the high quality Roussanne grape - but also a crisp, clean, feel, to the juicy peach, apricot, lemon and honeysuckle flavors.  Finishes dry and dusty and very inviting.  A fine sipper and match for all kinds of lighter foods.

Kosher for Passover "Kosher wines that defy convention" is the slogan of this South African winery, and if "convention" means "flat, boring, sweet," then this certainly goes a different direction.  This dry, crisp, tasty South African Sauvignon Blanc is loaded with bold citrus (grapefruit, tangerine) fruit with a pleasing dash of fresh cut grass.  Mouthwatering and food friendly for sure, but also a delight to just sip.

Campet Ste Marie Chardonnay Pays d'Oc France 2015 Product #33185 (In Stock)
Campet Ste Marie Chardonnay Pays d'Oc France 2015 Campet Ste Marie Chardonnay Pays d'Oc France 2015

We think of France's Languedoc as a hot region built to turn out hearty reds.  But Limoux, just south of Carcassonne, is higher and cooler than most of the rest of Languedoc with chalky limestone soils and cooling Mediterranean breezes - perfect for fine Chardonnay!  And this one is very fine indeed, made from just ripe-enough fruit (13.5 alcohol) that is fermented cool and aged 9 months in used French oak.

Pretty aromas of stone fruit, citrus and oak spice lead to a round, fleshy, mouthful of Honeycrisp apple and baked pear flavors accented by notes of lemon curd and toasted nut.  The fruit turns more white (peach, apricot, apple) on the finish with a touch of fresh butter and refreshing, vibrant, acids.  A fine Bourgogne Blanc and Macon alternative to enjoy with salads, seafood and poultry or just to sip on its own.  Outstanding value, too!

Le Paradou Viognier 2016 Product #32662 (In Stock)
Le Paradou Viognier 2016 Le Paradou Viognier 2016

Too often inexpensive Viognier veers toward the cloying and blowsy, but not this fresh little beauty from the south of France.  Le Paradou opens with lovely aromas of honeysuckle and tropical fruits, but on the palate those tropical fruit aromas become crisp, but still-ripe flavors of pineapple and juicy orange.  This strikes just the balance that an inexpensive, aromatic white should: it's assertive enough to be interesting, but won't overpower everyday food. At a reasonable 13% alcohol, it's balanced enough to pair beautifully with Asian takeout or an entree salad.

Monte Degli Angeli Pinot Noir Monferrato 2016 Product #32690 (In Stock)
Monte Degli Angeli Pinot Noir Monferrato 2016 Monte Degli Angeli Pinot Noir Monferrato 2016

You've got to be willing to think a bit outside the box to find real, honest, Pinot Noir selling for less than $10 these days.  Here we head to Italy's Piemonte region - more famous for Barolo and Barbaresco - to a small family-owned estate run by Brothers Antonio and Paolo Sperone.  The climate here is closer to Burgundy than you'd expect, and it lets the Sperones harvest ripe, juicy, Pinot Noir fruit and then give it 6 months in barrel to soften and gain complexity.  Black cherry and strawberry fruit hold center stage here with accents of smoke and fresh earth.  Juicy in the middle and supported by light, fine, tannin, this is a steal in value Pinot Noir that tastes like...well, Pinot Noir!

Bruni Poggio D' Elsa Cabernet Sangiovese 2016 Product #32137 (In Stock)
Bruni Poggio D' Elsa Cabernet Sangiovese 2016 Bruni Poggio D' Elsa Cabernet Sangiovese 2016

Winemaker Marco Bruni and his siblings named this “Super Tuscan” red for their mom, Elsa – could it be anything other than fantastic?  From Tuscany’s Maremma region, a slice of western Tuscany that gets all of the brilliant “Tuscan sun” that makes Chianti so famous plus cooling breezes from the nearby sea.  It’s sometimes called the “California of Italy” because while Sangiovese (the main grape of Chianti and Brunello) is great here, so is Napa Valley’s Cabernet Sauvignon.  Here, the Bruni’s blend equal parts Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon and age about 30% of the wine in French oak casks.

A sizzling value in super-Tuscan red blends of 50% Sangiovese - for Italian zest and red fruit - and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon - for richness and dark currant fruit - raised 70% in tank and 30% in large oak cask for spice.  It's loaded with black cherry, plum, and black currant fruit aromas and flavors with a hint of cedar and tobacco for complexity.  Juicy like Chianti, rich Cabernet Sauvignon.  Yum!

If you loved the 2015 vintage from this perennial favorite Pinot Grigio producer, you’ll flip for the 2016. All those same lovely aromas of peaches and white flowers, and beautiful ripe, mouthfilling flavors of juicy pear, honey crisp apple and mouthwaterng citrus. With a lovely, dense texture, this is not the watery, bland Pinot Grigio you might expect at this price!

Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2016 Product #32523 (In Stock)
Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2016 Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2016

Basically a “baby Sancerre”, this exciting young Sauvignon Blanc is grown on the same chalky slate soils you’ll find across Sancerre from 10-40 year-old vines, fermented in stainless steel and allowed to rest 3 months on the fine lees.  The vineyard is located just outside the legal boundary of Sancerre, but the flavors make you feel right in the middle!

Generous, fresh, aromas of fresh flowers, just cut grass, white grapefruit, and a hint of wet stones burst from the glass.  Then you’ll find a tad more richness and zest to the crisp citrus and green apple fruit, tangy gooseberry, and fresh grass.  As the refreshing acidity wells up to make your mouth water, a bit of Sancerre’s trademark “gun flint” character shows underneath the juicy bright fruit.  There’s a wonderful rich/brisk, sweet/sour contrast in this wine that will delight and fascinate with every sip.  Served cold, it’s thirst quenching and refreshing.  Let it warm up a touch and it’s layered, complex, and a fantastic match for seafood, fresh vegetables, and – of course – goat cheese.

Poppy has been a top value Cab here for a while, and the slightly more serious 2016 edition is going to make lots of fans. Nice doses of boisterous fruit, smoky oak, and sweet spice aromas and flavors are forward and ready to play. Juicy and fleshy on the palate with smooth, supple, tannins and a nice lash of black fruit, smoke and spice on the smooth, fresh, finish.  Easy drinking fun.

Collemattoni Toscana Adone Rosso 2015 Product #32952 (In Stock)
Collemattoni Toscana Adone Rosso 2015 Collemattoni Toscana Adone Rosso 2015

We loved Collemattoni's 96 point Brunello di Montalcino 2012, but - truth be told - we probably liked this vibrant Toscana Rosso even more!  It's a blend of 95% Sangiovese from in and around the Brunello zone plus 5% Merlot for extra plumpness and depth.  Pretty aromas of violets, cherry and blackberry lead to a rich and zesty palate with good breadth and richness and a fine, food-friendly, finish.  A fine pizza/pasta red with the extra heft to handle a good steak, too.

"Fresh and fruity red with sliced lemon and chocolate character. Medium body. Firm finish."  James Suckling 90 points

Dom Foretal Beaujolais Villages 2015 Product #32964 (In Stock)
Dom Foretal Beaujolais Villages 2015 Dom Foretal Beaujolais Villages 2015

Jean-Yves Perraud farms just 20 acres of Gamay in Moulin-a-Vent and Villages-level vineyards between Fleurie and Chenas. In 2015, he turned out a winning, ripe, gulpable Beaujolais Villages that you'll love drinking for refreshment and pairing with roast chicken or any simple meal.  There's the concentration and ripeness you'd expect from 40 year-old vines and the generous 2015 harvest, with loads of dark red cherry and ripe strawberry fruit.  A blast of floral perfume and stony minerality adds interest and a just right pop of cherry acids keeps things fresh and fun.

Wine Advocate's score (87 points) misses the mark a bit, but the words are spot on: "The 2015 Beaujolais Villages needs a leash on the nose to hold back all those exuberant kirsch and dark cherry fruit bursting from the glass. But that is what you want from this vintage. The palate is succulent and ripe with dark cherries and strawberry, sweet to the core and though missing a little definition on the finish, you'd have consumed the entire bottle before you start vexing about that. Glug 'n enjoy."  Exactly!

Quinta Da Raza Alvarinho Trajadura Vinho Verde 2016 Product #33085 (In Stock)
Quinta Da Raza Alvarinho Trajadura Vinho Verde 2016 Quinta Da Raza Alvarinho Trajadura Vinho Verde 2016

If you think about Vinho Verde at all, you probably think of light-bodied, tart and tangy, whites with a prickle of gas to enjoy in mid-summer heat with cold shrimp or a salad.  But this blend of Portugal’s Vinho Verde region’s two best grapes – Alvarinho and Trajadura is a bit more and better than that.  In fact, in the nearly perfect 2016 growing season, it’s a wine that both exemplifies and transcends its home and style.  It’s a Vinho Verde for drinking all year ‘round.

Pour a glass and you’ll admire the clear, crisp, light yellow/green color (while “Vinho Verde” really means “young wine,” there’s definitely a touch of green tint here, too).  Give it a swirl and you’ll love the big, ripe, aromas of peach, apricot and orange blossom that really scream “Summer!” even on a cool, cloudy, day.  And then your first sip fills your mouth with zesty orange citrus fruit, mid-summer peach, and a hint of something floral lifted by a very light prickle of CO2.  The ripe, fresh, fruit flavors pick up a hint of just squeezed lime as salty, stony, selzer-like minerality comes up on the mouthwatering finish.  It’s delightfully delicious.

Grayson Cellars Chardonnay California 2016 Product #33130 (In Stock)
Grayson Cellars Chardonnay California 2016 Grayson Cellars Chardonnay California 2016

A flat out terrific Chardonnay value here - as the Enthusiast Top 100 Value rating suggests.  This 100% Chardonnay with a touch of French oak, and it delivers generous amounts  of ripe pear, yellow apple and juicy peach fruit and a nice kiss of spice.  The texture would lines up with $20+ Chardonnay, and the concentrated mid-palate helps the flavors flow on through a long, broad, satisfying, finish.  A winner for the money!

Best Buy and Top 100 Value 2017! "Exotic floral and lemon-zest aromas are backed up by nice ripe fruit flavors and a touch of mint in this medium-bodied and generous wine. It's also supported by lively acidity for good balance."Wine Enthusiast 88 points

Ch Moulinat Bordeaux 2015 Product #33165 (In Stock)
Ch Moulinat Bordeaux 2015 Ch Moulinat Bordeaux 2015

Chateau Moulinat is located on limestone, gravel and sandy soils in Bordeaux's Entre Deux Mers region, between the rivers Garonne and Dordogne.  It's 58% Merlot (for plump richness), 36% Cabernet Sauvignon (for structure and finesse) and 6% Cabernet Franc (for herby perfume). This all-tank red is utterly delicious right now (even though you can hold it for 3-5 years if you'd like).  It's remarkably plump, plush and rich and loaded with blackcurrant and dark cherry fruit.  The Cab Franc delivers pretty accents of dried herb and tobacco on the nose and palate while the Cab Sauv provides a nice, focused, touch of structure.

We're not the only ones who like 2015 Ch Moulinat.  The Washington Post's wine critic, Dave McIntyre, tweeted, "Textbook Bordeaux, with all the right flavors of graphite (pencil), black currant etc etc, but without the stress of a high price tag and the need to cellar it for years. What’s not to like about this wine? $14, and a terrific value."  His "official" review was just as enthusiastic:

"Textbook Bordeaux, offering the traditional “pencil” graphite aromas over scents of plum, cherry and blackcurrant. And the wine kept getting better over a few days, suggesting it will last for several years in your cellar. Sustainably farmed."  Washington Post ***/*** (Exceptional)
