Abadia De Acon Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2014 Product #32028 (In Stock)
Abadia De Acon Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2014 Abadia De Acon Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2014

The best wines of Ribera del Duero tend to be unoaked values or barrel aged reds that cost $30+.  So we were delighted to find this honest, rich, all Tempranillo Crianza that matches rich fruit to smoky oak at a fine value price.  You'll find Ribera's signature dark purple fruit - black plum, dark cherry, black raspberry - with attractive accents of sandalwood and spice.  Round and deep on the palate and then smooth and spicy on the long, smoky, finish, it's a great cookout and roasted meat red you'll be happy to drink before dinner, too.

"Pure Tempranillo with a commercial profile, generously oaked but not excessive, matured in oak for 14 months. The palate has abundant tannins, sweet fruit and plenty of oak-related flavors."Wine Advocate 89 points

The signature white from the world's 3rd oldest continuously operating winery just happens to be from a not very ancient grape at all.  Kerner, a cross of Riesling and red Schiava, was created in Germany in the 1920s but thrives in the craggy, steep, vineyards of Italy's Alto Adige.  Fresh flowers, yellow stone fruit, ginger and jasmine aromas lead to a bright, vibrant, dry mouthful of stone fruit, green pear, and salty stone.  Mouthwatering with enough body for easy sipping an a dry, mineral, finish perfect for cheese and fish!

Accornero Freisa La Bernardina 2015 Product #31626 (In Stock)
Accornero Freisa La Bernardina 2015 Accornero Freisa La Bernardina 2015

As Antonio Galloni says, Accronero is "one of Piemonte's hidden gems" and this may be their most under-the-radar  wines.  Freisa can be hard and tannic (which is why much of ends up pink and/or sweet and/or fizzy).  Here as a dry red with just a prickle of fizz, it's gorgeous. Wild aromatics of crushed flowers and strawberries lead to flavors of fresh raspberry, strawberry, and berry blossom.  Dry and floral on the finish, it's a great pizza and salami red!

Not shy, this ripe and fruit filled Barbera! Enjoy with rich pasta sauces or stews.

"Black cherry, smoke, mocha, lavender, licorice, menthol and dark spices are some of the scents that emerge from Accornero's 2013 Barbera del Monferrato Giulin. This is another wine that boasts notable depth and resonance yet does so while maintaining remarkable balance. This extroverted Barbera should drink well for at least a handful of years."  Vinous (Galloni) 93 points

Acinum Valpolicella Ripasso DOP 2015 Product #32572 (In Stock)
Acinum Valpolicella Ripasso DOP 2015 Acinum Valpolicella Ripasso DOP 2015

You can look at this wine two ways.  Technically, it's Valpolicella Ripasso, a blend of Veneto grapes (mainly Corvina) poured onto the pressings from Amarone production to take on more body and complexity.  But we think you'll really want to think of this as your new "go to" all-purpose Italian red.  Loads of dark blackberry, Bing cherry, and licorice aromas and flavors here in a wine that really fills up your mouth, but never turns heavy.  Finishes with light tannins and juicy cherry/berry fruit.  Pizza, pasta, burgers - whatever is fun to eat will taste just great with this!

Alessandro Veglio Dolcetto d'Alba 2015 Product #31690 (In Stock)
Alessandro Veglio Dolcetto d'Alba 2015 Alessandro Veglio Dolcetto d'Alba 2015

Look, if you don't like this then perhaps Dolcetto just isn't your thing.  But we think you'll love the aromas and flavors of ripe blackberry and plum fruit, the feeling and flavors of rich chocolate, and the savory lift of licorice root and bitter almond.  The tannins are light (especially for Dolcetto) and the finish long and lush with chocolate and dark fruit coating your palate.  Barolo winemaker Alessandro Veglio says this may be the best wine he's ever made.  It's certainly outstanding and very, very, delicious.

Alvear Solera 1927 Pedro Ximenez Montilla Moriles Product #17557 (In Stock)
Alvear Solera 1927 Pedro Ximenez Montilla Moriles Alvear Solera 1927 Pedro Ximenez Montilla Moriles

Super rich, dense, and sticky, this Pedro Ximenez Sherry from a solera started in 1927 delivers wildly complex aromas and flavors. Try it with maple ice cream or savory cheese.

"The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. Drink now through 2050, or even longer."Wine Advocate 96 points

Ameztoi Getariako Txakolina White 2015 Product #31021 (In Stock)

With 8 straight 91 point ratings from Vinous, it seems likely the new release is a winner, too!  Vibrant aromas of lime zest, Granny Smith, white flower and chalk lead to zesty flavors of citrus, apricot, passion fruit, and salty mineral that get more powerful with air (and as the light prickle of CO2 blows off).  A tarragon note emerges on the bone dry, energetic finish.  Great choice for shellfish and summer.

Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Eiswein 2013 375ml Product #31238 (In Stock)
Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Eiswein 2013 375ml Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Eiswein 2013 375ml

One bitterly cold morning in January 2014, Anton Bauer and his team got up before dawn and harvested the last Grüner Veltliner berries of the 2013 growing season.  The frozen berries were rushed to the winery and immediately pressed, releasing tiny amounts of super-sugar-laden juicy and leaving the still solid water behind.  The thick, viscous, juice went into tank where it slowly fermented until the yeast could do no more, bringing the wine to 12.5% alcohol and leaving a stunning amount of rich sweetness and bracing acidity behind.

Despite the 2014 harvest date, this is technically a 2013 vintage wine.  But whatever you call it, the wine is brilliant.  Rich and creamy with layers of apricot, peach and white fruit aromas and flavors, there's a touch of honey and caramel for depth and bracing, tangy, acidity for freshness.  Sits on your palate for minutes after each sip, this is a rare treat you won't want to miss.

Hands down, the best vintage of this stunning value single-vineyard Gruner to date!  There’s a refreshing salty brininess to the aromas here, along with fresh pear and meyer lemon. On the palate there’s a pleasing weightiness. That pear aroma takes on a lovely ripeness, and there’s a delicious ripe apple flavor as well, like biting into a fresh Honeycrisp. A refreshing, versatile white and great value.

Anton Bauer Pinot Noir Wagram 2015 Product #31942 (In Stock)
Anton Bauer Pinot Noir Wagram 2015 Anton Bauer Pinot Noir Wagram 2015

This is 100% Pinot Noir grown on chalky loess soils warmed by hot winds blowing west from the Pannonian plain and cooled by chilly eastern nighttime breezes from the Alps.  Picked perfectly ripe at a very reasonable 13% alcohol, Tony gently extracts color and flavor during a slow fermentation and then softens and spices the wine with 16 months aging in used oak cask and barrique.

In 2015, Tony’s “basic” Pinot Noir manages something that Pinot does better than any other grape – to marry deep, rich, lush fruit with a silky texture and lovely vibrancy.  It serves up big aromas of spiced raspberry and black cherry with a lovely earthy bass note.  In the mouth it’s not at all heavy or thick, but loaded with intense flavors of crushed raspberry and cherry, Asian spice, smoke, and a hint of herb.  Silky smooth in texture, a just right burst of fresh raspberry acids give lift on the long, lightly tannic, finish.  A Pinot for fans of the best of Oregon, the Sonoma Coast, and Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. Probably the finest Pinot Noir value in the store...Ever.  Astonishing.

Anton Bauer Rose Feuersbrunn 2016 Product #32331 (In Stock)
Anton Bauer Rose Feuersbrunn 2016 Anton Bauer Rose Feuersbrunn 2016

Two-time Austrian “Winemaker of the Year” Anton Bauer's Rosé Feuersbrunn (named for the Wagram town where it’s grown) has always been tasty but the 2016 edition reaches some very high heights indeed.  It looks even better with the pink label you’ll find here (vs. the black text on other export bottles), so we bought enough to get some labeled just for you and to bring the price down to rock-bottom levels, too!

Rosé Feuersbrunn 2016 starts with one of Austria’s own red grapes – Zweigelt – for bright fruit and then adds Austrian up-and-commers Merlot and Syrah for depth and complexity.  It’s a pretty, assertive, pink in the glass with bold aromas of ripe watermelon, fresh strawberry, summer flowers and just picked herb.  On the palate it’s broad and full of watermelon, strawberry and redcurrant fruit with lively accents of tangerine oil and lemon zest.  The flavors really fill your mouth with satisfaction before a lip-smacking, crisp, finish of cranberry, watermelon and herb pops and lingers on.  Definitely a delight right now, but hold onto a few bottles – it will be better still at Thanksgiving and next spring!

Just what you want in a versatile, keep a case or two on hand, everyday red.  It opens with aromas of dark black cherries, clove, fresh leather and dark flowers.  Then, in your mouth, it’s medium-bodied and very juicy fresh with nicely concentrated flavors of sweet cherry and strawberry accented by a dash of spice and red plum.  As you swallow, your mouth will start to water a bit as the sweet red fruit flavors go “bang” and linger nicely as notes of violets and just more fresh leather emerge over soft, easygoing, tannins.  A terrific pizza/pasta/party wine that’s priced to enjoy anytime or share with a crowd.

Grechetto is best known as a (all too small) part of Umbria's Orvieto, but it's so delicious that it's well worth showcasing on its own!  This is 100% Grechetto done in tank and it really bursts with fresh, vibrant, aromas of stone fruit with subtle almond accents.  On the palate it's full of stone fruit and passion fruit flavors with a sophisticated texture and crisp, lemon/peach and mineral finish. Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2015 Product #32437 (In Stock)
Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2015 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2015

Jim Maresh’s focus is on single vineyard Pinot Noir, so in most years, he sells off any barrels or lots that don’t make it into the final single vineyard cuvee.  In excellent years, though, that wine is just too good to part with, so he supplements it with fruit from neighbors and bottles this wine:  the Dundee Hills cuvee.  The 2014 was the first release of the Dundee Hills bottling in a few years.  It was a fine, 90-point, gem that Wine Advocate called “probably the bargain of the vintage."  The 2015 is better.

Oregon’s 2015 vintage looked and felt a lot like 2014 – warm weather, big harvest, bold fruit.  The difference is that the 2015s have better structure and style, both of which are on display here.  You’ll find ripe, dark red, fruit on the nose here with accents of blood orange and subtle smoke.  Wonderfully generous and vivid in the mouth, the dark cherry and plum fruit expands and coats your palate before savory notes of licorice and mushroom come in on the back.  The flavors linger nicely over fine, silky smooth, tannins that promise delight with food and 7-10 years improvement in cellar.  Terrific, delicious, stuff.
