Scarpetta Squadra Bianco Terre Siciliane 2014 Product #31786 (In Stock)
Scarpetta Squadra Bianco Terre Siciliane 2014 Scarpetta Squadra Bianco Terre Siciliane 2014

Scarpetta was started by a couple of French Laundry alums who now run a great Northern Italian restaurant in Colorado.  They've worked with friends in Italy to create a line of wines designed for pure enjoyment - all food friendly and great at table, but also juicy and generous enough for casual sipping, too.

This is their take on a Sicilian field blend, combining native grapes Grillo and Catarratto with fermentation and aging entirely in tank.  It's a big mouthful of pineapple, stone fruit, and citrus that starts bright, rounds out with good richness, and then finishes crisp, fresh, and tangy.  An easy-drinking, all-purpose, white that punches well above our very low sale price!

Villa Jolanda Prosecco Product #22192 (In Stock)
Villa Jolanda Prosecco Villa Jolanda Prosecco

Villa Jolanda Prosecco is made from 100% Prosecco grapes grown in the hills north of Treviso.  Grapes are hand-harvested, chilled in the vineyard, and given a low-temperature fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruit.  The wine features lovely aromas of white flowers, orchard fruits, and a touch of mineral.  Lightly sparkling with very pretty, small, bubbles, the wine is full of flavor - peach, ripe apple, lemon zest, and a nice mineral streak.  Fruity and crisp, the wine finishes with a touch of mineral and yellow apple.  A fantastic wine to keep on hand for everyday celebrations or to stock up on for Holiday parties.  Delicious!

Alessandro Veglio Dolcetto d'Alba 2015 Product #31690 (In Stock)
Alessandro Veglio Dolcetto d'Alba 2015 Alessandro Veglio Dolcetto d'Alba 2015

Look, if you don't like this then perhaps Dolcetto just isn't your thing.  But we think you'll love the aromas and flavors of ripe blackberry and plum fruit, the feeling and flavors of rich chocolate, and the savory lift of licorice root and bitter almond.  The tannins are light (especially for Dolcetto) and the finish long and lush with chocolate and dark fruit coating your palate.  Barolo winemaker Alessandro Veglio says this may be the best wine he's ever made.  It's certainly outstanding and very, very, delicious.

Franco Serra Barbera d'Alba 2014 Product #30220 (In Stock)
Franco Serra Barbera d'Alba 2014 Franco Serra Barbera d'Alba 2014

From a small Barbaresco producer, this fresh and fruity Barbera delivers a lot more complexity and satisfaction than it's humble price suggests.  Fresh and juicy Bing/black cherry fruit roll across your tongue with accents of fresh leather and aged Balsamic.  Long on the palate and mouthwatering finish where very light tannin gives a little extra support.  A pretty sophisticated wine for the price - great with pizza, pasta, or even on its own.

Colsanto Ruris Umbria 2013 Product #30794 (In Stock)
Colsanto Ruris Umbria 2013 Colsanto Ruris Umbria 2013

Here's our single best-selling Italian wine of the past five years - a fantastic value that tastes like it costs twice as much as it does. The wine is mainly (70%) Sangiovese and delivers plenty of that variety's juicy black cherry fruit. But, the 20% Merlot in the blend rounds out the mid-palate and keeps the wine soft while the secret ingredient -- 10% Sagrantino -- adds spice and complexity uncommon in Umbrian wines. Sure, it goes well with pizza and robust pasta sauces, but there's enough going on to handle game and hard, salty, cheeses and a soft enough finish just to drink at a party. Fantastic value.

Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Schiava 2015 Product #30795 (In Stock)
Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Schiava 2015 Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Schiava 2015

Schiava (also called Vernatsch or Trollinger) was actually the region’s most planted grape for many years – with 60% of total vineyard area – until Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay began to supplant it.  That’s too bad, because the light, crisp, and juicy red wines this local grape makes are fun to drink and pair well with a wide range of foods.

Reflecting the cultural and linguistic diversity of Alto Adige, the Schiava grape is called “Kalterersee” in the local dialect of the region around Lake Caldaro.  Grapes for this beauty grew on loamy, limestone gravel soils at 230-450 meters above the Lake and were fermented and aged entirely in tank. A delicious farmhouse red, loaded with red berry fruit, a hint of smoke, and a bright gentle finish.  Kind of like a ripe Chinon (but without the herbal notes), this is delicious with a light chill and shines with everyday foods and cured meats.  A tad more rich and round in the warm 2015 harvest, but still a refreshingly great value!

Palazzone Orvieto Classico Vignarco 2015 Product #31231 (In Stock)
Palazzone Orvieto Classico Vignarco 2015 Palazzone Orvieto Classico Vignarco 2015

We've featured Palazzone's other Orvietos before, but this year it was the Classico that really grabbed our attention.  It's a traditional blend of 50% Procanico, 30% Grechetto and dollops of Verdello, Drupeggio and Malvasia that comes together to deliver boatloads of classic Orvieto character.  What's that, you ask?  Try aromas and flavors of bright, fresh, sweet lemon juice with a twist of fennel frond and squeeze of honeysuckle.  Not a "light, crisp, neutral" Italian white, this sports big flavors and a rich, mouth-coating, texture and a long, mouthwatering, finish of lemon oil, honeysuckle, and mineral flavors lingering nicely.  There's enough body and interest and fruit to make this a joy to drink solo and it will sing with salads, seafood, and cheese.  A winning value that outperforms many wines at 2x the price.

Proof that not all Chianti Classico is "serious" - although this is seriously fun to drink!  It's 100% Sangiovese from the best part of the Chianti zone with minimal wood influence.  It's bursting with juicy black cherry fruit with just a touch of earthy/leathery accents and spice. Really pumps out generous fruit over nicely grippy tannins.  An excellent value for pizza and pasta.

"Delicious!" is the most important thing to know here - although "bursting with fresh peach, kiwi and star fruit aromas and flavors and finishes with lime-dusted peach and salty stone minerality" can be helpful, too.  This is 100% Vermentino from Sardinia, and it's the perfect blend of sip-inducing fruit and lip-smacking tang.  A great wine for shrimp and seafood or just a sunny afternoon.

A textbook Dolcetto, harvested from plots in and around Monforte d’Alba. With a dark purple color and aromas of ripe blackberries and a hint of violet, this fresh and fruity Dolcetto from Salvano strikes a lovely balance between a full, satisfying mouthfeel and assertive tannins that help it stand up to robust food, and refreshing acidity and fresh fruit flavors that keep it from feeling heavy. It’s tailor made for a beautiful cheese and charcuterie plate, but if your weeknight dinners are a little less idyllic, it would be great with pizza with mushrooms, too.

Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Pinot Grigio 2015 Product #30819 (In Stock)
Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Pinot Grigio 2015 Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Pinot Grigio 2015

As Wine Enthusiast said in their 90 point review of the 2010 Caldaro Pinot Grigio - the first vintage we introduced you to - "It's hard to imagine Pinot Grigio better than this."  Over the past five vintages, the wine has gone from strength to strength and is now firmly ensonced as our all-time Pinot Grigio champion - no other comes close.

The 2015 opens with creamy aromas of peach, lime skin, and white flowers.  Take a sip and you’ll find a wine that’s at once crisp and rich and bursting with bright green pear, apple, peach and citrus and a long, mouthwatering, saline-inflected finish.  Just about the perfect all-around white to have on hand this summer, it’s a great match with everything from Spring salads to fresh fish, spicy Thai or cilantro accented Vietnamese dishes.  Or, just sip it all by itself for a delightful and delicious refreshment break.  Pinot Grigio for people who like flavor in their wine and anyone who appreciates outstanding value.
