Le Paradou Viognier 2015 Product #32536 (In Stock)
Le Paradou Viognier 2015 Le Paradou Viognier 2015

Too often inexpensive Viognier veers toward the cloying and blowsy, but not this fresh little beauty from the south of France.  Le Paradou opens with lovely aromas of honeysuckle and tropical fruits, but on the palate those tropical fruit aromas become crisp, but still-ripe flavors of pineapple and juicy orange.  This strikes just the balance that an inexpensive, aromatic white should: it's assertive enough to be interesting, but won't overpower everyday food. At a reasonable 13% alcohol, it's balanced enough to pair beautifully with Asian takeout or an entree salad.

Novellum Chardonnay 2015 Product #32126 (In Stock)
Novellum Chardonnay 2015 Novellum Chardonnay 2015

Another outstanding release from one of the world's very best value Chardonnays.  About one-third of the fruit is aged 3 months in Burgundy barrels and the rest in tank on the lees from Viognier.  Peach, apricot and pineapple fruit abound with accents of honeysuckkle and white flowers.  It's medium-bodied with fine energy and a touch of minerality on the long, fruit and floral finish.  Poolside Chardonnay!

Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rouge 2016 Product #32506 (In Stock)

While Mas de Daumas Gassac is most famous for its benchmark Languedoc estate-grown Bordeaux blends, we’ve always had a special fondness for their great value Guilhem wines. The family launched the Moulin de Gassac line-up, including Guilhem, to help preserve old-vine vineyards owned by neighbors who increasingly struggled to find buyers for their grapes and wines.  The Rouge is a blend of 40% Syrah, 30% Grenache, and 30% Carignan, all from 25-30 year-old dry-farmed vines the ripen beautifully in Languedoc’s warm, sunny, climate.

The 2014 does a wonderful job of marrying the rich, warm, ripeness and stony minerality you expect from Languedoc with remarkable freshness of fruit and fragrant berry blossom accents.  A mélange of blackberry, raspberry, cherry and strawberry fruit makes up the wine’s core, with surprisingly complex grace notes of fresh flowers, warm stones, and exotic sandalwood adding interest.  A burst of raspberry puree pushes through on the finish with crushed rock minerality, mouthwatering acids, and fine tannins giving support.  You’ll be happy enjoying this on its own at a party or while dinner cooks and love how it pairs with everything from lamb burgers to pizza

Ch La Pujade Corbieres Le Petit Spencer 2015 Product #31661 (In Stock)
Ch La Pujade Corbieres Le Petit Spencer 2015 Ch La Pujade Corbieres Le Petit Spencer 2015

"The Little Spencer" is the "fun" wine from this respected Corbieres estate in the heart of sunny Languedoc.  It's a blend of 50% Carignan plus 20% Mourvedre and 15% each Syrah and Grenache, all grown in a natural amphitheater that gives and extra dose of ripeness. This tastes and feels like a more expensive wine with deep, rich, blue/black fruit, complex accents of hot stone, licorice, and garrigue and a nicely chewy finish.  Fun stuff especially with rustic, herb-laced, foods.

Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2016 Product #32637 (In Stock)
Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2016 Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2016

Well, now.  This is a whole lot of wine for under $20.  It's about 45% each Grenache  and Syrah plus 10% Carignan, all grown on slopes along the Agly Valley.  The gneiss and schist soils are very free draining, forcing the vines to really drive their roots down and pick up plenty of Roussillon's classic minerality to go with the dark fruit and lavender notes.  For all the richness, this is very poised and pure and while it will be lovely right now with lamb or beef it's likely to be better still in 2018.

"An inky colored effort, the 2016 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Les Vignes de Bila Haut offers a beautiful freshness and purity as well as fabulous notes of jammy blackberries, violets, pepper and hints of leather. Rich, concentrated and tasting like it costs four times the price, drink it over the coming 4-5 years."Wine Advocate 89-91 points

Ch St Martin de la Garrigue Picpoul De Pinet 2015 Product #30926 (In Stock)
Ch St Martin de la Garrigue Picpoul De Pinet 2015 Ch St Martin de la Garrigue Picpoul De Pinet 2015

If you've only ever had mass-produced Picpoul de Pinet from a co-op winery - or if you are just craving something deliciously different in white wine refreshment - you owe it to yourself to try this.  As Andrew Jefford, British author of the landmark The New France has said, “Perhaps the best wine for me is an astonishing Picpoul de Pinet, picked very late from low-yielding vines: those who consider this an inarticulate if refreshing choice, the Muscadet of the Midi, should try this mint-and-verbena-scented, powerfully lemony wine.”

The aromas feature fresh mint and verbena scents to go with aromas of lemon pulp, green melon, and more.  Flavors of lemon peel, tangy pineapple, green apple and fresh, salty, sea breeze swirl across your tongue in a wine that coats your palate with agreeable richness and finishes salty, lemony, minty, and very fresh.  You've never had Picpoul like this before, and once you try it (especially with shrimp, oysters, or clams), you'll struggle to go back.

Ch St Martin de la Garrigue Picpoul de Pinet 2016 Ch St Martin de la Garrigue Picpoul de Pinet 2016

If you've only ever had mass-produced Picpoul de Pinet from a co-op winery - or if you are just craving something deliciously different in white wine refreshment - you owe it to yourself to try this stunner.

In 2016, this has all the concentration of the 2015 plus a remarkable leve of precision and detail. Bold aromas of sweet herb (mint, verbena), ripe citrus, honeydew melon and wet stone roll from the glass.  On the palate there's plenty of weight and texture to the fresh green apple, pineapple and sea breeze flavors that lead into a long, layered, and detailed finish.  Grown at half the yields of most Picpoul, it's a fine match for any seafood or summer day.

Ch Puech Haut Prestige Rouge 2014 Product #32599 (In Stock)
Ch Puech Haut Prestige Rouge 2014 Ch Puech Haut Prestige Rouge 2014

Lovely fruit and spice here with a nice spine for food now and cellaring for a few years.  A winning value!

"A terrific value, the 2014 Languedoc Cuvee Prestige checks in as a blend of 55% Grenache and 45% Syrah that’s brought up all in tank. It has tons of Mediterranean character in its sweet dark fruits, lavender, damp earth and peppery herb-laced bouquet. This gives way to a full-bodied, sexy, layered 2014 that has plenty of fruit, fine tannin and a hedonistic style that’s just hard to resist. It’s another outstanding vintage for this cuvee that’s well worth a multi-bottle purchase. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years."Wine Advocate 91 points

Dom Bunan Mas De La Rouviere Bandol Rouge 2014 Product #32577 (In Stock)
Dom Bunan Mas De La Rouviere Bandol Rouge 2014 Dom Bunan Mas De La Rouviere Bandol Rouge 2014

It's a sign of the times that this old Bandol estate's pink wine has captured more attention than it's old-fashioned red in recent years.  But you're attention to this bold, rich, blend of Mourvedre, Cinsalut and Syrah aged in large cask will be generously repaid.  Deep aromas of roasted meat, fresh earth, crushed Provencal herb and black fruit lead to a rich palate of roasted plum and blackberry and more meaty, earthy, spice.  Decant and drink with earthy stews and roasts.
