Branger Muscadet Les Fils De Gras Mouton 2015 Product #32444 (In Stock)
Branger Muscadet Les Fils De Gras Mouton 2015 Branger Muscadet Les Fils De Gras Mouton 2015

The world's most under-valued great white wine could just be Muscadet - the bone-dry, stony, green-fruited Loire Valley white that folks keep confusing with sweet/perfumy "Muscat."  The grape is actually Melon de Bourgogne and it gives a tart, green apple and lime zest, wine that needs a few months resting on the lees to develop matching richness and depth.  This one's delicious for now-2025 (really!) and crazy cheap for the quality.

"Last tasted in late July 2016 on the eve of what was to be the first of multiple bottlings, this is a bit closed on the nose but displays infectious juiciness of apple, lime and honeydew melon mingled with iodine, crushed stone and mineral salts, leading to a vibrant, consummately refreshing, palate-staining finish."  Vinous (Schlidnecht) 92-93 points

Pierre Guindon Muscadet Coteaux De La Loire Sur Lie 2016 Product #32135 (In Stock)
Pierre Guindon Muscadet Coteaux De La Loire Sur Lie 2016 Pierre Guindon Muscadet Coteaux De La Loire Sur Lie 2016

The cool, maritime, vineyards of Muscadet and it's unique Melon de Bourgogne grape don't get nearly enough attention and respect.  Try this and you'll see why Muscadet is the perfect companion to shellfish and summer heat.  It's at once round and crisp, mouthfilling and weightless, and loaded with lime and green peach fruit.  Time on the lees (the "Sur Lie" on the label) buffers the fresh acids and helps the wine drive to a fresh, almost salty, clean finish.

Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2016 Product #32523 (In Stock)
Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2016 Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2016

Basically a “baby Sancerre”, this exciting young Sauvignon Blanc is grown on the same chalky slate soils you’ll find across Sancerre from 10-40 year-old vines, fermented in stainless steel and allowed to rest 3 months on the fine lees.  The vineyard is located just outside the legal boundary of Sancerre, but the flavors make you feel right in the middle!

Generous, fresh, aromas of fresh flowers, just cut grass, white grapefruit, and a hint of wet stones burst from the glass.  Then you’ll find a tad more richness and zest to the crisp citrus and green apple fruit, tangy gooseberry, and fresh grass.  As the refreshing acidity wells up to make your mouth water, a bit of Sancerre’s trademark “gun flint” character shows underneath the juicy bright fruit.  There’s a wonderful rich/brisk, sweet/sour contrast in this wine that will delight and fascinate with every sip.  Served cold, it’s thirst quenching and refreshing.  Let it warm up a touch and it’s layered, complex, and a fantastic match for seafood, fresh vegetables, and – of course – goat cheese.

Eric Chevalier Muscadet Clos De La Butte 2015 Eric Chevalier Muscadet Clos De La Butte 2015

Want to taste what a talented young winemaker can do with 50 year-old Melon de Bourgogne on the stony soils of Muscadet, not far from the Atlantic Ocean in western France?  Well, you should!  Because this is about as delicious as Muscadet gets.  Vibrand aromas of stone and citrus fruit with something salty in the back lead to a big mouthfull of tangy fruit, salty stone, and the richness that comes with 8 months on the fine lees stirred every day.  For shellfish, of course, but also just to drink.

Dom De Villargeau Coteaux Du Giennois 2016 Product #32589 (In Stock)
Dom De Villargeau Coteaux Du Giennois 2016 Dom De Villargeau Coteaux Du Giennois 2016

The Coteaux de  Giennois appellation is small - under 200 acres in total - and tends to get lost in the shadow of nearby Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume.  Owned by brothers Fernand and Jean-Francois Thibaut, Villargeau is the top producer in the region and crafts crackling, fresh, Sauvignon Blanc from vines growing on fractured slate and gravel.

You'll find big aromas of mixed citrus - grapefruit, lemon, lime - with a hint of cut grass and flinty stones in the background.  On the palate it's clear, juicy, and fresh, with green grape and white grapefruit flavors getting complexity from the gunflint and smoke notes that made Pouilly-Fume so famous.  Finishes crisp and clean and pulls you back for another sip.

Dom de la Chapiniere Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2015 Product #32635 (In Stock)
Dom de la Chapiniere Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2015 Dom de la Chapiniere Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Yes, the label says "Touraine" here, and there's some of that region's characteristic fresh herb "pop" to the wine.  But the texture, depth and complexity here are much more Sancerre than the price would ever suggest.  Generous aromas and flavors of ripe stone fruit (peach, apricot) plus yellow apple, zippy kiwi fruit, crunchy mineral and a just-right touch of cut grass.  Round, generous, even fleshy, this is absurdly fun to drink with or without food.

Baudry Chinon Les Granges 2015 Product #32668 (In Stock)
Baudry Chinon Les Granges 2015 Baudry Chinon Les Granges 2015

A great vintage here, with deep fruit and plenty of juicy, herbal, snap.

"Les Granges comes mostly from the estates younger vines (15-20 plus years old) planted on the alluvial, gravel soils of the terraces by the river Vienne. The grapes are picked by hand, fermentation is at cool temperatures and maturation occurs in a mix of concrete and large wooden vats. 2015 was a wonderful vintage for this address with superb ripeness, so it stands to reason this is an atypically supple and layered version of Baudry's entry level number. It's packed with fleshy, floral-noted, purple fruit aromas and flavours and finishes with crunchy freshness and mouth-filling perfume. Just what you want from this type of thirst-quencher. The nose shows red fruits and spicy aromas, with green bell pepper hints. Very very light, easy drinking with crisp green finish."Wine & Spirits 91 points

Dom Pelle Menetou-Salon Morogues 2014 Product #31781 (In Stock)
Dom Pelle Menetou-Salon Morogues 2014 Dom Pelle Menetou-Salon Morogues 2014

Located just southwest of Sancerre, Menetou-Salon has become a fine source of Sauvignon Blanc that marries Sancerre's flinty minerality to just a touch more lightness and freshness.  This blends fruit from 7 relatively high-altitude vineyards to give a pretty wine with light white citrus and stone fruit aromas and flavors with accents of fresh grass and wet stones.  Mouthwatering and generous on the palate with a long, lightly fruity finish.  Delicious!
