Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin Les Crais 2002 Product #31437 (In Stock)
Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin Les Crais 2002 Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin Les Crais 2002

Jean-Michel crafted this rich 2002 village-level Gevrey-Chambertin from mature vines in parcels from across the village.  At nearly 15 years of age, it's fully mature and delivering the kinds of delight you hope for from well-aged red Burgundy.  Dark cherry, truffle, smoke, forest floor, loamy earth and more show on the generous nose and rich, still very deep, palate.  The dark fruit, sweet spice, and savory truffle notes linger on through a long, generous, finish.  Pair this with rich winter comfort foods and a nice crackling fire right now or feel free to wait another year or two - the wine's in outstanding shape!

Beaux Freres Pinot Noir Beaux Freres Vyd 2015 Product #32189 (In Stock)
Beaux Freres Pinot Noir Beaux Freres Vyd 2015 Beaux Freres Pinot Noir Beaux Freres Vyd 2015

For more than two decades since the first vintage in the early 1990s, this has been one of Oregon's benchmark Pinot Noir bottlings.  And if the wine has lost the thick texture and dense wood influence of earlier years, it has given up nothing in terms of inentsity, complexity and satisfaction.  Mainly own-rooted Pommard and Wadenswil clone from the early 1990s plus a little Dijon clone planted as the old vines failed, this is the essence of Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir, with lovely red fruit and huge lengh.  As Vinous said in their 94 point review of the 2014:  "Manages to be rich as well as lively, with no rough edges that I can detect."

"A perfect ruby jewel in the glass. Twenty-five years later, our beloved original Estate has outdone itself. Silky-textured and vibrant with layers of tart red berries and mulling spice; then like a deep breath on a misty mountain morning eases seamlessly into fragrant damp earth. Captivating, intricate, and refined even in its youth, this wine’s impressive age-worthiness remains strong. Expect increasing complexity and grace for another twenty years or more."  Winery Notes

Offers impressive presence and polish, with a multilayered, complex core wrapped in rich and expressive blueberry and cherry flavors. Drink now through 2025.Wine Spectator 95 points

Vietti Barolo Brunate 2008 Product #25830 (In Stock)
Vietti Barolo Brunate 2008 Vietti Barolo Brunate 2008

1 Bottle Available

"The 2008 Barolo Brunate flows onto the palate with layers of dark fruit, spices, menthol and licorice. It is an unusually plush, generous wine for the year, endowed with tons of grace and sheer depth. This is a fabulous, layered Brunate that should drink well with a few more years in the bottle. Layers of sweet, perfumed fruit, rose petals and spices build effortlessly to the gracious, elegant finish. The Brunate is brooding and tannic, but the wine softens a bit with air. With all the fuss over the super-ripe 2009s, it's easy to miss out on the classic structure, balance, and charm of bottles like this fine Grand Cru 2008.  This year's model shows off plenty of the animal, earthy, aspect of Corton Renardes but still has a nice core of pretty Pinot fruit.  It's unusually elegant for Corton Renardes, but still packs a punch of powerful flavors and has the perfect balance of fruit, tannin and acid to develop well in cellar for a decade or more.  Or, drink it now with earthy foods and mushrooms!

Dom JJ Confuron Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Chaboeufs 2012 Product #29038 (In Stock)
Dom JJ Confuron Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Chaboeufs 2012 Dom JJ Confuron Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Chaboeufs 2012

A classic; rich and powerful.  Best from 2017-2027.

“Slightly reduced aromas of roasted black raspberry, licorice and violet. A sweet, fine-grained fruit bomb in the mouth, offering more definition and verve than the Boudots to its blackberry and cassis flavors. Creamy-sweet but with nicely integrated acidity and ripe, fine-grained tannins giving the wine shape and energy. This wine was made entirely from vines planted in 1981 as the Meuniers pulled up the oldest vines for replanting before the 2012 season.” International Wine Cellar 91-93 points

“The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Chaboeufs has a very well defined, slightly metallic bouquet that is vigorous and focused. The palate is very silky and more refined than the Les Boudots. Despite some reduction this seems to have more class and finesse, serving as a decent Nuits Saint Georges without the bells and whistles.” Wine Advocate 92-94 points

“The superb Les Chaboeufs 1er Cru exhibits a dark red fruit nose with hints of herbs and loam. It boasts outstanding floral and dark berry fruit flavor and has an elegant mouth feel with, soft round tannins and a long finish. Drink in 2017 for an additional 10 years minimum.”i-Wine Review 93 points

Beaux Freres Pinot Noir Upper Terrace Vyd 2014 Product #32190 (In Stock)
Beaux Freres Pinot Noir Upper Terrace Vyd 2014 Beaux Freres Pinot Noir Upper Terrace Vyd 2014

Perched on the crest of the next hill north from Mike Etzel's winery, The Upper Terrace Vineyard gives a darker, more powerful, expression of the Beaux Freres style. As the reviews suggest, this is pretty much the apex of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir in 2014 and one you will not want to miss.

"Limpid ruby-red. Explosive, mineral-accented aromas of red berry liqueur, cherry cola, vanilla and potpourri, accompanied by a sexy floral overtone that gains strength as the wine opens up. Juicy, concentrated and expansive on the palate, offering intense black raspberry, cherry compote and floral pastille flavors and a touch of cola. Displays an extremely impressive interplay of power and finesse, showing a seamless texture and a firm mineral spine. A strikingly long, sappy finish features smooth, sneaky tannins, resonating florality and a lingering suggestion of five-spice powder."  Vinous (Raynolds) 95 points

"Supple, velvety, focused and distinctive, with smoky, minerally accents around a core of cherry, raspberry and blueberry fruit. Finishes with presence and persistence on an open texture."Wine Spectator 94 points

Roy Estate Proprietary Red 2010 Product #28944 (In Stock)
Roy Estate Proprietary Red 2010 Roy Estate Proprietary Red 2010

Shirley Roy never meant to make two wines from her 20 or so acre estate in a crook of Napa’s Soda Canyon.  But, winemaker Philippe Melka felt the vineyard spoke with two voices – one aristocratic and intense, the other softer, more plush and mellow.  Prop Red is the second of those voices, a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon with 26% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.  After dropping half her crop in 2010, Shirley was rewarded with this ripe and welcoming red that’s already delicious and sure to improve for years.  A bit of a cross between the black-fruited 2008 and the finer, more detailed, 2009.

“Roy’s 2010 Proprietary Red has a little more delineation and nuance than the 2009. Freshly cut flowers, violets, super ripe dark fruit, mocha, espresso, chocolate, plums, cassis and black currants all jump from the glass in this opulent full-bodied huge wine. Layers of fruit continue to build to the creamy, expressive finish.  Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.”  Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate 92 points

“Bright medium ruby. Aromas of blueberry, coffee, mocha, truffle and chocolate show a slightly porty quality. Fat, smooth and lush in the mouth, offering immediate accessibility. The truffley element carries through on the palate. This nicely rich, layered blend finishes with dusty tannins and good length.”International Wine Cellar 90 points

Guillon Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle 2014 Product #31364 (In Stock)
Guillon Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle 2014 Guillon Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle 2014

With the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes, this is one of the most outstanding values in this offering, delivering Grand Cru level ripeness, concentration, and complexity at a price well under many very good 1er Crus. As with the Grand Crus, Jean-Michel ferments Petite Chapelle in a brand-new, open-top, wood fermenter before aging it in the best French oak money can buy. You can begin to peak in on its development in 2021 if you like, but put some away to drink from 2024 to whenever.

Outstanding "Here too there is moderate but not dominant wood setting off the more elegant and airy red and dark pinot aromas that exhibit background nuances of earth, floral and spice. There is a notably finer mouth feel to the even more mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that retain a lovely sense of delineation on the punchy, focused and well-balanced finale."Allen Meadows 91-93 points

Ch Le Bon Pasteur Pomerol 2010 Product #30678 (In Stock)
Ch Le Bon Pasteur Pomerol 2010 Ch Le Bon Pasteur Pomerol 2010

A magnificent Pomerol that will certainly develop for 20 years more, but is already delicious with a 1 hour decant.

"A fleshy, full-throttle wine with lots of mocha, kirsch, mulberry, and plum, their 2010 displays a smorgasbord of aromas, a full-bodied mouthfeel, terrific purity, density and even a hint of lead pencil shavings and subtle toasty oak. If you want to understand the genius of the Rollands, there is no better example than looking at their own wine from this property in Pomerol. The tannins are present, but not that significant, thus I tend to think the wine will come into its own in 4-5 years and last for 20 or more."Wine Advocate 95 points

Ar.Pe.Pe. Valtellina Superiore Ultimi Raggi 2006 Ar.Pe.Pe. Valtellina Superiore Ultimi Raggi 2006

"The 2006 Valtellina Superiore Sassella Ultimi Raggi is superb. Dark, rich and translucent, the 2006 captures the essence of Nebbiolo here, in Sassella. Sweet dark cherries, menthol, licorice, game and cloves are all woven together in a fabric of pure class. Layered, balsamic and nuanced, the 2006 possesses remarkable power while retaining considerable finesse. All the elements are simply in the right place. Drink this suave, silky Sassella over the next decade-plus. This fruit was harvested very late, on November 15. Robert Craig Howell Mt Cabenet Sauvignon 2014 Product #32363 (In Stock)
Robert Craig Howell Mt Cabenet Sauvignon 2014 Robert Craig Howell Mt Cabenet Sauvignon 2014

Sure, you should wait 5 years. But this is so rich and smooth now, feel free to dive in early!

"The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain comes from an elevation of nearly 2,300 feet, from a vineyard planted in red volcanic, rocky soils. Rich, full-bodied, and possibly the star of an impressive line-up of wines, this is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot. Strikingly rich, opaque purple in color, with mulberry, boysenberry, blackberry, graphite and flowers, the wine is rich, chewy, full-bodied, multi-layered, and just a sensational example of Howell Mountain. Sadly, most Napa Howell Mountain Cabernets of this quality sell for $200-plus, but this one is available for under $100, which is to the credit of the folks at Robert Craig. This is 25- to 30-year wine, although there’s no harm in drinking it sooner."Wine Advocate 95 points

Casanova Di Neri Brunello Tenuta Nuova 2012 Product #31982 (In Stock)
Casanova Di Neri Brunello Tenuta Nuova 2012 Casanova Di Neri Brunello Tenuta Nuova 2012

As Monica Learner has written in Wine Advocate, this was the wine that launched the concept of “Modern” Brunello – ultra-ripe, dense, wines clearly marked by the influence of small French oak barrels.  The wood can be a bit overwhelming when the wine is young – showing as smoke, chocolate and vanilla – but melds into the wine nicely by 7-8 years from the vintage.  It’s been Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year (in 2006) and made the Top 100 two other times (2000 and 2011).  And while the 96 point 2012 isn't at the same level as the Wine Advocate 100 point 2010, this the most highly rated vintage for Tenuta Nuova ever aside from that perfect harvest.  You can decant and taste now, but the real excitement starts from 2020 - 2027.

"Lots of spice, balsamic and ripe-fruit character to this one. Walnut undertones. Full to medium body, a compressed structure of ripe tannins and packed-in fruit. Vibrant finish. Best in 2019."  James Suckling 96 points

"The Casanova di Neri 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a beautiful wine that recalls many of the stunning characteristics found in its high-scoring predecessor. I gave a perfect 100 points to the 2010 edition of this same wine. This expression, made two years later, continues in that tradition of excellence. The quality of fruit is profound and intense. The bouquet offers black cherry, spice, leather, balsam herb, cola and licorice. The complexity is absolutely impressive. This remains one Bellissimo Brunello."Wine Advocate 96 points

Vilmart & Cie Coeur de Cuvee Brut 1er Cru 2007 Vilmart & Cie Coeur de Cuvee Brut 1er Cru 2007

"Another gorgeous wine, the 2007 Coeur de Cuvée is rich, ample and totally seductive. In 2007, the Coeur de Cuvée is intensely aromatic and highly expressive, with striking textural resonance throughout. Creamy and spherical through to the finish, the 2007 is a model of elegance and sumptuousness. The 2007 can be enjoyed today for its generous personality or cellared for another decade-plus."  Vinous 94+ points

"The 2007 Coeur de Cuvée Premier Cru Brut was disgorged in May 2014 and offers a deep, ripe and rich bouquet with hazelnut, and some ginger and floral flavors. Rich and creamy on the palate, this is a round, very elegant and firmly structured Champagne; it has good grip and fruit intensity in the finish. Although, it is a bit austere in its youth right now. Drink 2018-2024."Wine Advocate 92 points

Ch Giscours Margaux 2009 Product #31674 (In Stock)
Ch Giscours Margaux 2009 Ch Giscours Margaux 2009

Another stunner from the fast disappearing 2009 harvest.

"Tasted at the Château Giscours vertical, the 2009 Château Giscours is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot picked between September 22 and October 13. Deep garnet in color, it has a sumptuous bouquet with blackberry, saddle leather, forest floor and even just a faint touch of juniper berries. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, lightly grained tannin. This is a very harmonious Giscours with cedar and a pinch of black pepper sprinkled over the black fruit. It is certainly well proportioned with one of the more "masculine" finishes for the vintage. Showing better than when I tasted it blind a couple of years ago, this is an excellent Margaux that should drink earlier than the succeeding vintage. Tasted June 2015."Wine Advocate 93 points

"This is alluring, with lots of incense, warm espresso and roasted mesquite notes leading the way for a sleek core of mouthwatering black currant and blackberry fruit. The long finish lets the mesquite edge linger, with well-embedded grip. Rock-solid. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2014 through 2029."Wine Spectator 93 points

Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Millesime 2006 Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Millesime 2006

Everyone agrees on this one - as always one of the great wines of Ambonnay.

"Another standout, the 2006 Brut Millesime is stellar. This is an especially broad, creamy Champagne built on textural richness. Lemon oil, white flowers, smoke, almonds and baked apple are some of the signatures. Rich and resonant on the palate, the 2006 will drink beautifully for another decade or so, even if it could benefit from a little more time in bottle. Egly's 2006 is a pure pleasure to taste today."  Vinous (Galloni) 94 points

"The 2006 Brut Millésime Grand Cru is a really rich and intense, yet also a pure and fresh cuvée based on 60/70% barrel-fermented Pinot Noir and 30/40% barrel-fermented Chardonnay. It is a full-bodied, concentrated and extremely well-structured cuvée with a grippy, long and persistent finish. The dosage is two grams per liter. There are lovely fresh berry flavors on the nose."Wine Advocate 94 points

"Ripe fruit and floral notes herald this mouthwatering Champagne, with nectarine, gingersnap biscuit, orchard blossom and anise notes carried through the fine, chalky mousse. Well-knit and vibrant, featuring a long finish of smoke and spice."Wine Spectator 94 points

"Vivid ruby. Spicy red fruits, incense, violet and botanical herbs on the flamboyantly perfumed nose. Vibrant, mineral-tinged black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show impressive depth and vivacity and a seamless texture. Juicy, precise and appealingly sweet on the youthfully tannic, incisive finish, with the berry and floral notes echoing. The blend of fruit intensity and tension here is quite suave."  Vinous (Galloni) 93 points

"The 2011 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis has closed down slightly since last year, yet still offers a terrific perfume of cured meats, vanilla bean, sweet black currants and graphite to go with medium to full-bodied, ripe, sexy style on the palate. I doubt it will truly close down and would happily enjoy bottles anytime over the coming 15 or more years."Wine Advocate 93 points

"Very focused, with a lovely beam of lightly steeped red currant, bitter cherry and plum fruit flavors that glides atop singed cedar, black tea and dried star anise notes. Eric Rodez Empreinte De Terroir 2003 Pinot Noir Product #30335 (In Stock)
Eric Rodez Empreinte De Terroir 2003 Pinot Noir Eric Rodez Empreinte De Terroir 2003 Pinot Noir

Eric's Empreinte De Terroir series is designed to showcase the unique character of his Grand Cru Ambonnay vineyard in a single vintage - in this case, the warm 2003 harvest.  From 30 year-old Pinot Noir vines, it is 100% barrel fermented and aged and spends 8 years on the lees before disgorgement with just 2 g/l dossage.

The 2003 shows a copper-tinged color with extremely fine bubbles.  Aromas of cherries, red flowers, and toast explode from the glass.  In the mouth it’s extremely deep, rich, and robust with complex flavors of red fruits, graphite and baked bread.  The flavors drive to a seemingly endless finish as hints of red raspberry and toast linger.  While fascinating to drink on its own, this would pair wonderfully with duck or any dish featuring wild mushrooms.  This will just get better in cellar over the next decade or so.
